Nice work!
Yeah, we say we have the truth, but truth be known, we are all about present truth. Present truth isn’t about yesterday, and it isn’t about tomorrow, but if we say it today, you better damn well obey, or else.
a parody press conference.
my name is gerrit losch, and i am a member of the governing body of jehovahs witnesses.
as you know, we hardly ever give interviews unless we feel pretty sure that we are going to get some unearned good publicity and goodwill.
Nice work!

i am reading the presentation of the self in everyday life by erving goffman at the moment.
it sheds much light on the experience of 'performing' the role of being a jehovah's witnesses: how a witness will strictly adhere to watchtower standards when we are 'frontstage' with an audience either of peers or outsiders, and how they may relax those standards when they are 'backstage', not in a setting where their fidelity to the identity of 'jehovah's witness' is being scrutinized.. an interesting point it makes is that we can present our roles either with 'sincerity' if we believe in the performance as much as we would have the audience, or with 'cynicism' if we perform our role without believing in it, but expecting that the audience will.
but rather than being a neat spectrum from sincerity, through ambiguous sincerity, all the way to cynicism, goffman argues that a performer will tend to one extreme or the other: either believing utterly in the role he is presenting, or presenting it totally without conviction for the benefit of the audience only.
May I ask you why exactly you make mention of it's "too late and they're baptized"? What exactly is too late about it?
I know of a few people who regret getting baptized (myself included). The reason I say "too late" is because once someone gets baptized into this organization, there is no honorable way out. One must either conform to keep their family, or one must lose everything they've ever had in order to start over. I would imagine that if one studied the true history of the WT, they would never get baptized in the first place, thus they would never have to go through some of the pain experienced by baptized JW's who leave. I hope this makes better sense..
hello everyone hope there is room for another newbie.. i feel like i know all of you from reading your posts over the last months.. and i must thank you all for your great and very informative posts.
it has really reinforced all the things that i had been feeling for years.
my husband and i were both raised in the "truth".
Welcome! I'm glad you're out and you won't put your kids through the mess we went through! I'm doing the same for my son. It's great to be free!
jehovah`s witness`s buy wbt$ literature..lots of it!
!..jehovah`s witness`s "excessively buy" wbt$ literature!
!..the more wbt$ literature you buy,the better jehovah`s witness you are!
Dismayed, I'd be happy to take some of that literature off your hands..
so after all this what is acceptable and what is not?
acceptable.
not acceptable.
I have been researching this topic recently because of my father-in-law. He has started to tell one of the elders off that the Society has really screwed up the blood doctrine.
In my research, I've learned that:
-The Society admits that when the bible mentions blood, it is only in connection with taking it in as food.
-The Society has also admitted that blood transfusions are tissue transplants.
-Then the Society has admitted that they cannot be the judge of anyone who accepts a tissue transplant.
The only two things I see that hold the Society back from permitting blood transfusions completely, without disfellowshipping, are:
-They are still very adamant about teaching that blood transfusions are a nutrient (by using false analogies) and therefore should be rejected. (This is completely untrue, proven by modern medical knowledge, hence why they quote 17th century medical science when it comes to this.)
-That it is a violation of God's law if someone sustains their life off of blood. (This is something that is NOT taught in the bible. It is a completely man-made rule.)
this is for the christians on the site really, but all comments are welcome.. jesus said that "no one comes to the father, except through me", my understanding of those words is that we need to ask jesus to be our saviour,to accept,or adopt, us as sons and daughters, and thus become our eternal father, and thus we become brothers and sisters of christ and hence can have a relationship with almighty god.. i may have missed something so please add or correct me,but if the above is in essence correct no jdub of the " great crowd" can have a relationship with god,as they are not christs brothers.. this leads me on to ask,if you do believe as i do (as above) what can i do about the lords evening meal,i do not feel at present that i can go to any church,i will not go to a k.h,and i am alone in my belief as to family,so have any of you celebrated it alone?
and if so isn't that really weird?.
love.
It can be done at home, alone, or with others who share your faith in Jesus Christ.
"Drink from it, all of you. This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins."
They should've realized that when the WT said "soon", they really meant "we have no f$%#@ clue when it's really coming".
sigh.
i cannot believe how much the society fudges some thing.
it's starting to get me more than i thought it would.
Yeah, I remember the day I started talking to a Baptist about this very topic. He had never heard of the Nephilim, and we started to do some research using the KJV... well, to my surprise, I couldn't readily explain that the "sons of God" were angels who had come down to have sex with the womenz of this earth, and that the word "Nephilim" didn't even appear in the KJV. So I was stuck trying to explain that the "sons of God" were angels, and the Nephilim were their hybrid offspring.
Stupid WT and their fantasy stories...
refresh my memory.
i know jw's teach that the fds was appointed in the spring of 1919, but where in the scriptures do they "support" this announcment?
i have a jw that wants to speak to me and i need to refresh my understanding.
LOL... I started to type out some stuff, but you really should read the book Captives of a Concept.
1919 can be such a mess, unless you know where to start.
The main scriptures they use are Matthew 24:45-47 and one other book of the Old Testament that I can't remember right now (I think it's Micah 5:1-5, but I'm not sure).
does anyone know when the last revision to the new world translation was released?.
i seriously wonder if there are any qualified bible translators left at brooklyn or patterson.
that is assuming that there ever were any there in the first place.. there might not be anyone qualified in the watchtower organization to make any revisions at all.. the watchtower today wants lawyers, accountants and construction engineers, not people trained in biblical languages!.
Word has it that they didn't print the brackets the latest edition cuz the funds weren't there for the ink.
