Again with this teaching?? The GB really are pathetic. They need to just admit they are wrong and leave it alone. But they can't..

This new teaching is supposed to inspire fear in the newer JW's, that 'the end' really is close (uh, this time around).

For example, my sister (still a JW) tells me that in her congo there are plenty of those who believe the end is close because the anointed won't all pass away and that they're all getting old. This teaching will only reinforce that fear. But the ones who think this way are newer JW's. Most of these people weren't JW's during the 60s and 70s, so they weren't around for 1975. And they also weren't around when the WT started talking fear about 'apostates' and the 'generation not passing away'. They weren't around for the first cold chill in 1995, when the WT changed the generation teaching.

The other reason I think they started teaching this is because the GB is trying to make itself look as if it knew all along that this is what Jesus meant, and that they weren't really wrong in 1995.

In the end, it's all prophetic fluff.

Do JW's Really Believe That the End is Near?

The older JW's (like the ones in my family) still believe the end is near. Most of them don't have any retirement plans or 401K's. I'm not sure how well they're going to fare in a few more years. Even my mom is counting on the end being near so she doesn't have to work to support herself.

The elders in my old congo are a little younger and they have 401K's and savings. I can't say for sure, but I would suspect that the better off Witlesses actually have retirement plans.

JW's are able to talk out of both sides of their mouth. On the one hand, they unswervingly teach that the end is near. On the other, some set aside money for the future, since they don't know for sure just how near the end is.

I tried researching on the WT CD just how often the WT recommended saving up for retirement and I really couldn't find anything. Has anyone else tried looking? On a shepherding visit, one of the elders tried arguing that saving up for retirement was "a personal decision". My argument was that the WT teaches the end is near, so an average Witless wouldn't even think about saving up. I did find an article or two on the WT CD stressing that even though the Levites "retired" from temple service, this did not mean that the Witlesses would be able to retire from the preaching work. Now that's sick!

I know, it's a very disturbing article. I was disgusted with the way they continually beat the "other sheep" into submissive morons for their enjoyment.

If or when they finally allow that, the 'other sheep' will be crying tears of joy and be eternally grateful to the SLAVE CLASS for permitting them to have what JESUS, the MASTER, freely offered them from the beginning.

And thus they will be denied eternal life because they didn't listen to the Master, but instead followed their False Prophet wherever it went.

Nearly 100 years of Devil's "short period of time" (Rev 12:12) - Ridiculous!

i was reading this article on http://www.watchman.org/jw/1914hst1.htm and this paragraph struck me as particularly interesting:.

"apparently the society feels that the judgment period has stretched too far.

its been over 80 years since the judgment began in 1914. they are now saying the bible, "does not show that such judging would continue over an "extended period of many years" (watchtower, 15 october 1995, p. 22).

That's the best part. They used to teach that since 1923, the preaching work was to separate the sheep/goats (this was even considered direct "light" from Jehovah). Yet in 1995 they dismiss this teaching but still hold onto how this "refinement reinforces the importance of our preaching work". Huh? The preaching work was important because it separated people into sheep/goats. So how does this refinement show the importance if it has nothing to do with it now?

That's the exact same question I've been pondering. But I've realized, like others pointed out, that this "hidden" personality is within you and it's up to you to nurture it. Whatever it is.

This is different. The JW's can't take it to court and win. They already lost. If they try appealing to the EU, I have a feeling they're not going to get anywhere with it. This may be a religion that thrives on persecution, but this is NOT going to motivate the JW's much more. They expect persecution but if they live in a country that doesn't hassle them, then they will be lax on preaching and bringing the money in.

I especially like what one poster said earlier in this thread: It was supposed to be Babylon the Great that fell first, not the WT!!

was it to be true, that jehovah would have an active 'visible organization' on this earth today, as is claimed by the governing bodies watchtower society, would not the christ, when he gave the composite sign of his invisible presence, have made some mention of that organization, and directed us all to follow it?

I'd also like to add that the Title of your thread is one of the most intriguing parts of the JW teachings. They teach that from 1919 forward, their preaching message should consist of sounding the bell that Babylon the Great has fallen, and that the Kingdom was established in 1914. This is so foreign to the Scriptures that the WT has had to rewrite and reinvent exactly what the New Testament is all about. When I read parts of the book Holy Spirit (published in 1976), I was shocked when I got to the part where it talked about exactly this: That they were NOT preaching the same message as the Apostles. This was one big nail in the coffin for me because I knew in my heart that the Bible should be the authority on what to teach and not some message first-proclaimed in the 20th century. I read, and then re-read Galatians 1:8 and it was crystal clear.
