I can translate between Techno-babble and Manager-ese, so I can both align an email message to a business area and explain how to send an email message.
Oh, and I can put anyone at ease.
my super power is that i can size people up rather quickly.
i also am the one even people i hardly know come to for advice because i can usually figure out exactly what to do in any difficult situation.. .

the science is settled.
special interests do not want you to think that it is.
"in a candid memo about political strategy for republican leaders, pollster frank luntz expressed concern that voters might punish candidates who supported more pollution, but he offered advice on the key tactic for defusing the issue: "should the public come to believe that the scientific issues are settled, their views about global warming will change accordingly.
How many kids do you have?
None.
Are you a vegetarian?
I try, but I have a meat habit.
How big is your house?
Admittedly bigger than I need, and that's a long story. But it's fairly energy efficient and uses solar for hot water.
What kind of car do you drive?
A two-seater. 32 mpg.
Do you live and work in your own community where you can walk or take public transit?
Public transit.
Do you bus your kids to a school outside your community? Do you take cruises or trips on planes often? Do you buy cheap foreign made goods so they end up in the landfill a year later? Do you have investment interests in oil, coal, etc?
N/A, nope, never, none.
sad story at the sf zoo.
a beautiful siberian tiger escapes, kills one man and mauls two others.
then is shot and killed by police.
I'm with HS at this point.
ANIMALS DO NOT HAVE HUMAN EMOTIONS!
It seems humans share many MAMMAL emotions.
what is the common justification given by witnesses as to why they have a different bible?
a friend once told me that it was because the other versions of bibles weren't translated accurately and things had been changed.
at this though, she also told me that should i decide to study, i could use my own bible.
The common justification is that only their version is correct, having "the best scholars" available and Divine inspiration.
how would they explain John 1:1. "and the word was God..." instead of their ridiculous version "and the word was a god"
They would say that's an instance where you have to reject your Bible and embrace the NWT, because obviously your Bible is wrong.

The problem is that their is nothing better than oil as a transportation fuel.
Depends on what "better" is - less polluting might be "better". Perhaps you meant "energetically efficient", but then we'd have to limit that to the kind of combustion engines we currently use.
If there was something better available, we would be using it already. People buy the best product they can get.
You actually have part of that right - they use the best alernative available to them. The best alternatives available are not always the best that exist - they're the best that corporations conspire to provide. Why do we not have a large trolley system in Los Angeles (any more)? It wasn't dismantled because people didn't use it.
People buy the only product they can get when only one product is made available. When better products are available, they become vocal and committed. Recall the outcry of electric vehicle leasors when those vehicles were pulled out of the market.
There has been no actual free market activity that chose oil as the "best" product. An industry created the market because it could make a mint. And it has.
Think about it. A gallon will drive a 2 ton vehicle at high speeds nearly 20 miles.
Think about it. Virtually no typical consumer on today's streets needs a 2 ton vehicle. The vast majority of traffic does not require high speeds, most trips are within miles of home.
Try just pushing that same vehicle 100 feet and you will realize how much energy is contained in a relatively small volume.
The same could be said for electricity (available from renewable sources), hydrogen (which I am aware has origination problems), and even steam. Not to mention used cooking fat, for goodness sake.
Indeed, some fuels are much more efficient - and would be a fiasco on public streets.
The issue, then, isn't really about efficiency or consumers picking the best product that fits their needs. These are red herrings, used to misdirect.
It's about entrenched business interests.
And that's the real argument, isn't it?
There is not inexpensive transportation fuel available that is as energy dense and as easy to transport to markets.
If it's so safe, why have there been so many production accidents in the news over the past year? How many times have residents of Richmond, CA had to stay inside their homes due to another explosion and fire?
We don't use oil because it's "the best" - we use it because it is entrenched. It is convenient. It is status quo.
i was reading in interest this thread about angels and demons how do angels and demons influence mankind?.
why is the preaching work taking so damn long?
hear me out.. because like the preaching work, my musings tend to be long.. lol.
The angels are FAR more adept at killing people than saving people.
Perhaps they're miffed over not having marriage, and have to "slum" down here on Earth for a little gratification...
is it true that in america there is no paid maternity leave?.
if so surely that means most people have to return to work pretty quick after they have had a baby?
if thats true, then surely that means its not possible to breast feed your baby exclusively for any time at all?
I'd like to see the US become a bit more isolationist
I get concerned that isolationist policies provide a "divide and conquer" strategy that serves the few at the top at the expense of the general population at the bottom. I would think being more integrated into the rest of the world with it's successes (like single payer health care, strong union benefits, social tolerance on various fronts) might give us ideas for improvement here in the US. I also think some trade agreements have been mismanaged, so I'm not advocating a sudden open door that provides killing drafts.
I, too, have generally made out alright, though I currently live in a State that has a popluation that is (to me) somewhat socially stunted and painfully superficial. Having made out alright, I would like to see more people included in the benefits of a prosperous society (if you want to call if "socialized" medical care, I suppose that's ok - though I suspect the label is meant as a kind of attack) like easy access to health care and secure retirement.
I see too many people around me with what seems to be the attitude that, "No one ever gave me a nice world to live in, so no one deserves a nice world to live in" - or at least, "I did it all on my own, so no should get any benefits that I didn't get". I prefer a viewpoint that asks that things get better, rather than be limited to what I had available.
With fewer financial resources available, the US does some pretty questionable things with its public dollars - insisting on programs that don't work (abstinence-only sex education, for example) and, as hillbilly alluded to, trying to force feed our idealogies far from home.
What kind of society might we have if we went into debt, not for a war, but for health care for all? I've never understood why health care should be connected with business, as opposed to being more connected with public policy (government).

I saw another angel . . .
Hey, folks - what can one angel do? The scripture says there's just the one doing this work.
Of course, as a supernatural spirit creature you'd think he'd get around to converting more than .1% of the population - he's had more than 2 thousand years.
just a warning to all you jw's.
i was jw for 50 years and am now an apostate.
i left the orgaization becasue of all the contradictions.
Thanks Gopher (nice to see you!) and Hawkaw - it doesn't really matter what spin the WTS puts on this, the hypocrisy comes up so clearly in different areas:
Malawi R/F must go to prison rather than get a membership in a political organization (BTW, Mexico R/F can bribe officials for membership in the army!), but The Society can do whatever they want FOR LIBRARY ACCESS.
Then, to meet their membership requirements, they PRAISE the very "beast" they demonize.
What kind of schizophrenia allows these perversions of integrity? Oh, that's right - divine inspiration...
watchtower study article "responding to your conscience" (october 15, 2007, pages 25-29, studied december 3-9, 2007) .
dealing with, inter alia, oral sex, contained what i thought was an interesting new way of describing how jw's can form their own personal, and different, conclusions and that no one needs to be 'disturbed' by this.
i have never seen the watchtower describe it quite this way, even in relation to conscience matters like whether to attend a church wedding.
The idea of the "conscience of others" rule has only pushed certain behaviors more underground.
The WTS version of "Don't Ask/Don't Tell"?
