Share Your Favorite Aphorisms
by Farkel ini'm a great fan of aphorisms.
zen has some of the classic ones.
the moral consequences of doing whatever you do is that you will be the sort of person who did that.. "it's best to ride the horse in the direction it's going.".

Will religon eventualy disapear?
by highdose inobviously not in our life time, but i was thinking maybe in a centry from now perhaps?
once the people who were taught creation in school are gone and instead we have people who were taught evoultion instead?
when we have perhaps been able to travel further and deeper into space, will people ask where is god?.

We will always have people trying to describe the invisible.
Always.

Kinda depends on condition and matirial/color, but in general I'd guess close to a grand. If particularly desirable finish, twice that.
See if you can find what you have on eBay, that's generally a good way to start valuing something like this.

I just feel like crying... I'm so fed up of the hypocrisy!
by cattails ini was very disgusted with the wt study for today.. towards the end of the article it refers to matthew 15 (see quoted scripture below).
this is a beautiful passage where jesus says his followers need to be hospitable, care for sick, hungry and imprisoned brothers.. they turn it around and say that for jw's this means they need to support the "faithful and discreet slave" by going in door-to-door witnessing, making monetary contributions to support the worldwide witnessing work, and following the directions and counsel of congregation elders.. and the worst part of it all is that there were several commenters giving almost word for word answers to that effect, they didn't even seem to listen to previous comments, they just repeated mindlessly what the paragraph said... i was ready to burst.
mom knew i was about to have a fit right there and then.

I wish I had something more comforting to say, other than You're right.
But I was just wondering. If it had been me...how cool it might have been to throw up right there in the Hall.
Maybe I wouldn't have to go to meetings any more...
I'm sorry, I don't mean to trivialize this...but just think - they say something evil from the platform, and a few of the audience just spontaneously upchucks.
What better way to say, You disgust me, you lying perverters of truth!

If God Truly Cared About People Wouldn't He DO SOMETHING By Now?

The only solution would be if He revealed Himself to us.
There's the rub - one can only claim this has happened, rather than provide compelling evidence (the writings that various denominations claim as sacred are both contradictory and woefully inadequate).
That is the miracle of God – that He loves us.
So you say.
Life is more good than bad, even in the case of blind children. It can always be worse.
'Poe-tay-toe, poe-tah-toe', dear sir. It can always be better, too. It's all relative, and those that suicide have determined for themselves.
If my head is grazed by a bullet, I can claim God prevented my being shot in the eye; perhaps I should further claim that Satan prevented me being missed completely.
It's a paradox that people want to be blessed by God and damned by Satan rather than deal with the reality of their lives.
It is a paradox that people want God to stay out of their lives, then complain when He does.
I detect an elephant in the room: there seems to be a supposition that God is in some lives, that everyone wants Him there, and that the evils of His grand bet with Satan are somehow our fault...

I wouldn't contact until she is 18. You may be opening yourself to a range of protective order restrictions.
At 18 she will have a better ability to figure out why you weren't around than at 15. At 18 she'll be better able to integrate what religion has done in her life.
After three years, I wonder if mom and dad are open to hearing from you? Would a card to the whole family be worthwhile?

FOR THOSE WHO HAVE LEFT THE TRUTH?

JEHOVAHS DAY COMES AT THIS MOMENT AND U REALIZE U WERE IN THE RIGHT PLACE BUT BECAUSE OF LEAVING YOU ARE NOW DOOMED. WOULD EVERYTHING GAINED (temporary) ENJOYMENT WORTH IT?
Your question presupposes that I left in order to gain "temporary enjoyment." It then asks if the enjoyment was "worth it."
That means I can't answer your question, because I did not leave out of any sense of gaining enjoyment, or permission to do things I couldn't otherwise do.
I left because the WTS is a false religion and I choose to be free of it.
If "Jehovah's Day" comes, I am most prepared. I may be somewhat intrigued, but most prepared.

Community Service - why looked down on when it was so encouraged by Jesus
by insearchoftruth inmy wife yesterday was talking about how useless it really is to feed the hungry and provide cold weather shelters since the problem will not go away until the 'new system of things'.. i know that at one time jesus does state that there will be poor always, but a key aspect of his ministry on earth was helping the less fortunate.
how does the wts justify the discouragement of its rank and file from performing acts of community service, when the 'greatest man who ever lived' was so active in it?.

He is able to inspire people and help them reach their true potential.
Huh? According to the WTS, the only potential anyone can reach is selling magazines door-to-door!
They're blatantly using "spiritual warfare" on that line...

The reason for suffering may be inscrutable but that does not mean it is gratuitous.
That would be one of my definitions for gratuitous: intentionally inscrutable. If indeed He has written this Bible, He left a heckuvalot out.
Frankly, if God were indeed doing "nothing" this world would be in far worse shape than it is. And there would be far more suffering.
I'm sorry to say this is just horrendous: limits God's ability, and condemns Him to a grauitously sadistic persona.
To catagorically state that God is doing nothing or that there is no higher reason for something one would have to be God.
Perhaps we are God. That would explain a lot, eh?
Again, limiting a transcnending God to the here and now only hinders ones' ability to understand.
By that token, we must admit we know nothing whatever of God, whether he has the notion (let alone any ability) to act, has what we would consider a personality, or any desires at all. By definition, a transcendant God would be utterly alien to us, impossible to fathom, impossible to beseech.
Why would a transcendant God care at all?
