Double Standards - Where is the line drawn?

i was happy when the yadrif was given the boot - we never needed the spread of hatred and name calling.

it seemed as though everyone felt the same way.. i find it hypocritical that as long as you are "influential in the xjw community" or if you run a big anti-jw website you can call anyone names and you can post any obscene drivel as long as it is a song which you dedicate other posters.. i find it ironic that a "well-respected" poster (and i could give a damn what his past actions or brave deeds are, or what fancy essays he wrote) would call me a biggot in chat for asking simple questions but then he would defend the stuff kent wrote in reference to aguest.

i don't give a damn if it was written by frank zappa or some other crack-smokin' loser - the fact that they are song lyrics is irrelevant.

dear all,.

it is with much regret that i have decided to leave jw.com.

it is not a decision i have made lightly, in fact i had been thinking about it for many weeks now.. i am leaving because i cannot be a part of a forum that condones abuse and deliberate offensiveness towards other posters.

I saw that you recently brought up the matter of abusive posters in the Suggestion Box forum, and Simon answered:

I do agree, I will try and imrove things if you can bear with me.
I'm sorry I haven't been around this last week to keep a closer eye on things - I've just been incredibly busy.

I thought you'd at least wait around for the latest flashes of new light from Simon.

Speaking of flashes, if you leave, who will show her panties at Larc's Sunday School?

Eulogy for My Father

on tuesday, august 4, 2001 at 3:42.a.m.

mst, duane floyd checketts, 77 died in his sleep due to complications from pneumonia.

he is survived by his wife bette and two children, douglas checketts, patty smith, and 8 grandchildren.. duane, who was fondly called duke by everyone who knew him was born in farmington, utah on march 8, 1924. his father floyd, was one of 10 children raised in a tiny house built by his own mormon father who immigrated in the early 1860's from birmingham, england.

Thank you for sharing this.

I'm sorry you must endure a JW funeral that will likely irritate rather than offering you comfort.

Reading your eulogy, I am reminded of what is important in life. Each of us want to touch the lives of other in a good way. We want to love and be loved. We want to be missed after we're gone.

I also thought of a book by Stephen Levine I read recently called A Year to Live: How to Live This Year as If It Were Your Last. By denying death, many people deny life. They put off many parts of their life for "later" and live a life of compromise and unfulfilled dreams. Sadly, religions prey on this tendency. Much of our lives are on hold while we are waiting for paradise, waiting for heaven, waiting for Godot. Given just a year to live, many people would live very differently. His book encourages people to live each moment, each hour, each day mindfully--as if it were all that was left.

Perhaps you could have your own private memorial service for your father and play "Estrelita"? I wish I could hear it.

I Said Goodbye

my father was rushed by ambulance from his rest home to st. marks hospital in salt lake city, utah friday, but i only just heard about it.

i received a call from the floor nurse and she told me he is not expected to live.

his lungs are filled fill up with fluid and are continuing to fill u with more fluid: he has pneumonia.

Thank you for reminding me to appreciate my father and express my love to him while he is alive. I have never experienced the death of a person I love, so I can only try to imagine.

I admire you for your courage in loving deeply and expressing it, even though that love now increases the pain of saying goodbye.

You, too, are loved. Please remember that.

Norm, without ever engaging me even ONE TIME in one-on-one dialog, told me point blank that there was no hope for me, that I had no redeeming qualities. Ginny did the same, but only after she(?) called me a laughingstock for believing a lie she told.

You did take my joke literally, and for those who have met me and know that I am very much a woman, it is funny that all this time you’ve been picturing me as a big mean hairy hoss. What makes it even more hilarious is that you persist and make a federal case out of it. Not even a photo could convince you. Ginny is the evil mistress of deception.

You replied:

Even after all of this, you still persist with the "she(?)" stuff.

Is your memory so short, or are you deliberately trying to distort the truth? It is exactly this sort of behavior that disgusts me.

Disfellowshipping- Pros and Cons

since i have been a member of this forum since july, i have seen alot of posts by df'd or posts about disfellowshipping.

i just thought i would add my thoughts on the matter, for whatever it is worth.

I enjoyed Frenchy's case of the two cousins because I've experienced it in my family. Of the six people in my family, only my father and I were baptized. My mother and three sisters were not.

I sometimes attend the Memorial with my parents because it means a great deal to my father. My mother, a smoker, is greeted with open arms and warm greetings. One of my sisters, not exactly a bastion of unwedded celibacy, is also greeted warmly.

To make it a bit more interesting, I was baptized at age 11. I once asked the elders if I should be held accountable for a decision I made while so young. They told me that there was no way they could annul a baptism; however, I could get baptized again if I felt my earlier decision was not a mature one.

On these visits to the KH, I'd often ponder this situation. We all went to the same meetings and studied together. We all knew the rules. Yet, I was judged more harshly simply because I made a promise and tried.

I think Frenchy is right--this lesson is not lost on the young people in the congregation. I remember talking to my sisters about baptism. Their immediate response was, "But then you can get disfellowshipped."

Paradise

one thing i have always wondered is this.. in the new system everything will be shared by everybody right?.

how come witnesses don't share everything with each other now in order to prepare for this?.

how come rich witnesses don't help out poor witnesses so they can come to meetings?.
