I had a blast going to the creepy 100th memorial with my wife. The high point was when I told an elder I was one of the 144,000 Israelites and that I know which gate of the New Jerusalem I enter at and the only reason I didn't take the wine was because I am a Nazirite.

Women elders, what difference would they make?
by Freedom77 inokay, let's do a big what-if: suppose the gb for its own unfathomable reasons suddenly got new light (tm) and decided to start appointing women elders and ministerial servants.
they would, of course, refer to the examples of junia (apostle), and priscilla and phoebe (deaconesses in wordlyspeak) in the greek scriptures; never mind what mental somersaults it would take to get them there.
stranger things have happened in wt history.. that being the case, would having women in positions of real authority make any significant difference in the congos or in the borg as a whole, and why or why not?.

I was in a Rasta church where, if the executive brethren were guilty of dereliction of duty or gross corruption or negligence, the sisters would take the place of the executives as a sort of shaming. Now imagine if that were the case in Kingdom Halls. Whenever there was a scandal involving brothers, the women would become the elders, thus marking that congregation as one with incompetent male elders.

Karl seems like the type that might go for something as high control as the JWs, but more of the dharmic cultee type. His mind seems oriented toward emptying itself rather than filling itself.

What if Jehovah's Kingdom really became a Kingdom?
by SonoftheTrinity ini mean what if a government decided to internally deport its jehovah's witnesses and give them their own independent country.
"here, since you say we are of satan, we're giving you a few square miles so lets see how much better a job your theocracy does, and this way you can't spread your religion.
" i'm surprised russia didn't try that.

I'm surprised Russia didn't try that. I always thought that if I ruled a country I would make the Jehovah's Witnesses count the votes since they claim to be neutral.

Is the Bible just as fake as the JW's
by BackSlider init seems that the more i research, the more i find that it's all just a big scam.
is there any evidence that even the bible isn't just another big religion/government scam?
would we listen to putin or obama if they told us they have verified new holy writings?

What bothers me about the criticism of the Bible in which most people put all their faith in the entire Bible or disregard it completely based on their attitude toward organized religion, rather than reading every single book of the Bible on its own merits, and reading every apocryphal book on its own merits when you done with all of them, and then decide what you find to be truth, untruth, literature, history, and myth. The Bible shows me that God is so humble that he became a humble dirty Jewish hippie love child, comprimising his omnipotence, his omniscience, and his omnipresence. Jehovah's Witnesses don't look like humble dirty Jewish hippie love children to me, and the authority of the watchtower organization seems to be omnipotent, omniscient, and omnipresent in their dull morbund dub lives, like modern day pharisees. The rules of the Watchtower make the 613 laws of Moses look like a cakewalk so I understand why you are burned out with all religion. Being married to a dub sometimes makes me wonder if I have unknowingly started to become a deist just keep my sanity around her. I say my prayers in front of her in a liturgical language not because I am a lover of ritual, but so that I don't get mocked by her, instead quietly rejoicing the utterence of blessings from ancient times. It is a solemn act of post-patriarchal intellectual and spiritual passive aggression equal to her loud hollow organizational praise that happens around the same time at the dinner table. I wonder what God is thinking about it.

women should go back to the kitchen
by never a jw ini found on another thread a quote from awake 1967 aug 22,page 27-28. it's from an article where the wt proves that women should acquiesce to their husbands.
within the article i found something that suggests more intellectual dishonesty from the wt writers.. that it is in the best interests of both.
sexes for man to take the lead is also supported.

Or am I as restricted to the Theocratese subregister of Global Standard English as people who are in the Witchtower's Untruth?

Cults and Convergent Evolution
by cognisonance ina thought popped in my mind on the way to work today.
most jws don't think they are in a cult (or an organization with many cult-like features).
this isn't really surprising considering most cults dont think they are, well, a cult.

The fetishizing of the generation of 1914 has left a de facto gerentocracy. One single charismatic tyrant who kept replacing his lieutenants out of paranoia would present more wiggle room for eventual reform than the current power structure. Which leads to another interesting question. Which leads to another question...should children being raised in the Untruth be stealthily introduced by their worldy stepparents to the writings of Machiavelli and Musashi and at what tender age?

Perhaps reading about how cults stopped being cults and became congregations that now support and encourage each other can also provide clues as to how this could happen for Jehovah's Witnesses. Some classic examples are the Reformed Latter-Day Saintsnow called the Community of Christ, and the Worldwide Church of God, now organized as Grace Communion International.

The hardship of being a gay Jehovahs witness.
by truthwillsetyoufree inplease spare a moment to consider the difiiculties faced by gay jehovahs witnesses.
i was raised and baptised as a very serious jw.
every waking moment of my day was lived for jehovahs and his organization and for nothing else.

The irony is that the moustaches but no beards rule makes the all the brothers in the congregation look like a bunch of gay donut-eating cops moonlighting as out-of-shape pornstars when viewed as a group.
