It's worth remembering that Jehovah's Witnesses ask members with a known history of pedophilia to go from door to door. This is a good reason for the public to be concerned and for the government to do something to help enforce a householder's right to choose to not allow them to come to their door.

A lot of people don't know about the 'do not call' list, no. Maybe they can find out by bringing this issue out for debate?
Yes, this issue should have more publicity. Hopefully, this petition will help. I don't think it will succeed and wouldn't want it to, but it would be great if it caused people to discuss other approaches or at least realise that they can tell the Witnesses to put them on their do no call list.

I can't agree with the idea of banning their door to door ministry. I would be happy to see laws that strengthen the rights of individuals to bar Witnesses from coming to their door and punish them if they disobey. A lot of people don't even realise that Jehovah's Witnesses have a do not call list. Just letting people know about this is a good step. Here in the United States, there are do not call lists for telemarketers with legal penalties for businesses that don't respect it. I would like to see something similar for religious groups that knock on your door.

Would You Really Want To Live Forever With Dubs?
by shamus100 inhere is the hypothetical question of the day - would you, or more appropriately, could you live forever in paradise on earth with jw's?
with the hypocrosy, silly elders, silly people... feeding lions and cleaning up after animals... everyone living by waterfalls, like the jw's always portray in they're psychotic pamphlets..... or would you rather be dead.
i, personally, would much rather be dead.

I'm sure they would find a reason to shun me. Imagine having the whole world shun you! Wherever you go they would scurry away in fear. If I could find a nice female apostate, I think I would be OK. I might even start a tribe of apostates and ruin paradise for everyone. I suppose that would get me destroyed by their loving God.

I talked with my FIL today about the Beth-HELL firings
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inyup, my father in law has been baptized over 50 years.
he is a genuine christian person.

I'm sorry to hear about your FIL. It sounds like he is a good guy. I hope he can find a way to escape his bad situation.
I'm interested in seeing how these layoffs effect the Witnesses. I wonder what the effect will be in the congregations when Bethelites return from their "lifelong career" and have to struggle without assistance from the Society. I hope it will have a sobering effect on many.

mother just had jws at the door, they said that abuse is now reported to
by looloo inthe police !
this was not an elder , but he said the rules changed sometime ago !
thats odd because i rang bethel london a few days ago and the nice guy that i spoke to regarding our situation , said that in england and some of the states in america it is not the law to report to the police !

I often hear Witnesses claim that certain situations are handled a certain way. It's part of their mind control. They think they have the true religion, so they naturally assume that things are handled appropriately. This makes the facts of the pedophilia scandal very devastating, if we can only get them to look at them with an open mind.

Well, I called the Society again. This is part of a small informal campaign to call the headquarters on or around the first day of each month. I asked about the layoffs at Bethel. I was transferred to the Service department. I was told there were no layoffs at Bethel! Of course, I inquired further and was told this is because the workers aren't paid. Some are being reassigned to other places where they are needed. I asked if they are receiving any kind of severance package. He said that was private information. When I asked if they have any public statements about this, I was told that I would have to call the office of public information. I pointed out that was the number I called. He didn't offer to transfer me. He said I would have to call them back.
On the second phone call I was told that they haven't made any public statements about this. I asked if the workers are given any kind of severance package or support when they are asked to leave. He said he wouldn't feel comfortable giving out that information. I said that was fine. I would just have to do my research elsewhere.
It felt like I really hit some raw nerves with my questions. When I had called on earlier occasions they were pretty nice and polite, but not this time. I would love to know what kind of effect these layoffs are having on the workers.
Their number is (718) 560-5000, if anyone else wants to call (I don't think they answer that number on the weekend). I don't really like making these kinds of phone calls, but they get easier every time. They can shun me if they want, but this is a way for me to get them to listen to what I have to say. This little campaign may not ever get very big, but at least the opportunity is available if somebody wants to be part of a
collaborative effort. -

A Message to Jehovah's Witnesses (in a new media format)
by DT inhttp://www.slideshare.net/deeeteee/a-message-to-jehovahs-witnesses.
it's just a basic slideshow presentation, but i think it might be the first slideshow on slideshare about jehovah's witnesses.
i got the idea from the recent threads about the do not call list.

Thank you for the comments. I would like to see it made into a video or see a video with a similar message. I don't know how to make videos, so I would be happy if someone else wanted to do that. I checked Slideshare and it's already at number three for the most viewed slideshows of the day. I like the way you can have clickable links on slideshows. I'll try to get more up on that site before the JW's find it.

Excellent, as usual. I can't thank you enough for doing these. We need to think of ways to promote these to even more people.
