That's great. It doesn't take much to raise awareness. I personally think that informing the public may be more productive than trying to educate the witnesses. The public will let the Witnesses know what is going on if they know about it. I would just recommend that you check the local laws about delivering to post boxes. I know it's illegal in the United States.

I'm going to let the JWs' & others in my area know.
by LouBelle ini'm taking action.
since the un & pedophile issues haven't even been heard of by the witnesses in south africa i am going to get a pamphlet drawn up about these two issues and i'm going from door to door (well actually post box to post box) and slip them in all the homes in my area - i've inlisted my mum.
(my mum makes me laugh - she asks if we are going to wear latex gloves - bless her).

Welcome to JWD!
This topic has a quote that might be useful to you. http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/12/153619/1.ashx
It's a statement from the Society that they don't shun those who drift away. (Of course, they often do shun them, but it might make your family reconsider.)

Open Letter To Jehovah's Witnesses
by Outaservice ini thought for some of the new ones here, that this letter would be good to repost..................... dear brothers: you may not remember, but i know you very well.
i met you a long time ago when you came to my house with your smiling faces, your neat clothes, and your soft voices, and a bible tucked neatly under your arm.
you told me many beautiful stories of a "paradise earth," and a "righteous new system" which would be established shortly.

You did a good job of capturing the emotions of the JW experience and the disillusionment that follows.

It's just a basic slideshow presentation, but I think it might be the first slideshow on Slideshare about Jehovah's Witnesses. I got the idea from the recent threads about the do not call list. I thought it might be helpful to try to inform the public that they can get on it. I think it might be one piece of JW trivia that can really capture the public's interest. I welcome your comments and will probably put up more slideshows in the future.

Police 1 Witnesses 0
by cluless inabout a month ago i phoned the local police that every saturday a couple of religiouse people were knocking on doors in the local area.
i explained i was concerned that there message was most unpleasant and comprised of either we converted to there religon or god would kill us and our families.
i gave the police the name and telephone number of one of the witnesses.

Yep, that's their message. I think citizens have a right to be concerned about this.
I've never heard of JWs speeking like this ("either we converted to there religion or God would kill us and our families") in a normal door to door visit. Have you?
I have heard this said on the first visit. Usually, it has been a response to householder questions. Some Jehovah's Witnesses are crazy and don't understand tact. Shortly before I DA'd, I heard an older publisher bragging about how he called somebody a "deceiver" because he believed in the trinity.
It's my opinion that since their message is that nonJWs will be destroyed, it doesn't matter much how or when they say it. It's actually misleading to hide their message until the mind control starts.

Yep, that's their message. I think citizens have a right to be concerned about this. I would hate to see their religious rights interfered with, but I'm not sure that there is a problem with letting the police know about your concerns, especially if the Witnesses are being overly aggressive.

Turn your cameras on JWs day
by Shawn10538 ini just thought i'd post this idea i just had.
knowing that most people want nothing to do with any kind of activism, i understand, of course, that there will be maybe 1 or 2 people who will think this is a good idea and probably not a single person will ever actually do this thing.
having said that wouldn't it be cool to have a project called "turn your cameras on jehovah's witnesses?
-
DT
Not a bad idea. Why not just grab a video camera when they come to your door and videotape everything they say and then post it to Youtube along with commentary? They are at your door, they can't complain about being videotaped, although they might leave rather quickly.

Is this a new change with the do not call list?
by DT inthere are a few threads going about getting the witnesses to stop coming to their door.
i was curious, so i called the headquarters to ask about the best way to get on their do not call list.
they said to just ask them to put you on their do not call list.

Your approach - may work - IF - the local JWs use the information correctly.
That's a big question. The witnesses I knew have usually taken the do not calls very seriously. Some are violent and many publishers are scared of do not calls. The problem I would see is that they would forget to check or the notes would fall out of the territory. Another thing is that some publishers would be reluctant to report requests to be put on the do not call list if they didn't think they were really serious.
I think householders asking to be put on the list is a good thing either way. It's a headache for the Witnesses and if they do a bad job of handling it, they could get into legal trouble and or further damage public relations. If they are to continue to protect their right to wake up people on Saturday mornings, they have to show a willingness to protect the rights of others.

Thanks Jim_TX for the suggestions. It might be worth looking into.
I have a feeling that this do not call list is one little piece of information that could be really damaging to Jehovah's Witness. If Jehovah's Witnesses have the freedom to knock on peoples doors, then people should have the right to say stop. And they do, they just don't realise it. Many people actually think they can get them to stop by just saying that they aren't interested.
I was in a hall once that had a lot of do not calls. It had a discouraging affect. It didn't make the ministry any easier because you had to keep checking the notes. If you went to one and got chewed out, you knew you were being persecuted for your mistake in failing to follow directions, not for something noble. It kept reminding you of how irritating the work was for the householders. There were so many, the elders couldn't keep up. Some would go for five years or more before they were updated.
