  Stumbling Your Fellow Brothers

  i just felt the need to express my thoughts on the matter of "stumbling others" in the congregation.

  they tell you that you are accountable for your own soul and responsible for your own spirituality, and then they tell you that you can't do something if its going to stumble your brother.. if a brother/sister sees me doing something not condemned in the bible but maybe is a matter of conscience and he/she is stumbled...why is that my fault?

  we were following the admonition to "reach out"
  so we regularly had dinners where we invited
  people from the congregation who werent close
  personal friends.... we were GREAT cooks and
  hosts and usually served a decent wine...

  one time a single "sister" was invited along
  with a relatively socially inept family, with their
  own issues, to be sure... at any rate this "sister"
  took it upon herself to ream me a new one about
  how it would stumble bro. dufus if we served wine
  since he was a former drunk...

  my reply to her was along the lines of:
  if he has so little control over himself that
  this civilized setting among fellow xians might lead
  to his undoing, my serving wine isnt his biggest problem

  in washington DC and we have a statement made
  by congress we want you to listen to... be sure to
  stay on the line.....
  
  me: i have no intention of devoting any time to
  this solicitation so tell me now why you are calling
  
  them: well, m .... m.....
  can you tell me how to pronounce your name?
  
  me: no... why are you calling?
  
  them: well we are trying to keep congress from
  making us illegal...
  
  me: who are you?
  
  them: christian broadcasters
  
  me: you are telling me the entire legislative
  body of congress is trying to make christian
  broadcasting illegal?
  
  them: *silence* (fumbling thru script)
  
  me: listen, i am not in your constituency
  so do us both a favor and take this number
  off your call sheet

  Do you still read the bible?

  i can't.

  i can't even bring myself to pick up the book anymore but i'm still a christian.. not sure why, just this feeling of guilt when i read it, and guilt if i don't.. anyone else have an aversion to the good book?.

  take a bible study with a mainline group

  i did a 7 week study with the lutherans here
  using an ecumenical study guide directed toward
  inclusion of the queer community in mainline churches...
  "what the bible really says about homosexuality"

  ( i told them from the outset i was XJW, i wasnt looking
  for a home church and my only reason in doing the "study"
  was to have a moderate discussion point with non-fanatics
  about being queer and christian)

  the KH i attended had several anouncements
  over the period of time i attended to absolutely
  respect "no trespass" signs, etc... and stated
  explicitly that HQ would not come to anyone's legal aid
  should there be an incident regarding trespass

  Phone Territory!

  well, couple days ago i got stuck with a brother doing phone territory!

  man, i hated that!

  i kept on wishing no one picks up the phone or it's a disconnected phone number or something.

  we totally made it worth the humiliation
  of soliciting for a god via telemarketing!!

  there was a few of us that got along
  well and had fun together, so i would
  have get the phone witnessing gang
  over ( large house and 3 active phone lines)

  we would plow thru a "territory" and
  have coffee and snacks and had what
  would have been good fun in or out
  of the b0rg deathstar......

  Need advice on Christmas/Birthday gifts

  being newly out of the jws, and being a born in, i have never celebrated a holiday or birthday.

  as the holiday season approaches, i need some advice on who i should buy gifts for and who i shouldn't.

  our families are all jws, so they are automatically excluded.

  along with other regular people...
  enabling third world entreprenuers
  to acquire a bag of seed or a bolt
  of cloth or a sewing machine or
  a generator.... changing lives one
  loan at a time....

  the loans are paid back without interest...
  after one lending cycle, the lender can
  withdraw their funds... or continue to lend

  i started with $50 3 years ago and
  have made 8 loans with that same $$...

  it is the only gift i give for b'days, etc....
  seriously, who needs another CD?
