after finding this forum and being raised in the jw religion, i found jwd a refreshing place for honest feelings, fears, life experiences etc.. the history of the jw's was exposed, and those who lived any experience under this regime has been told by many members.. to be lied to by any forum member is insulting.
i have over my past year and 1/2 come to love many posters.
i realize many more have much longer time put in here.. i have been honest and exposed more of my self than i care to think about, but always kept in mind that others were doing the same and it was best for anyone new.. to lie on this forum to all of these members is horrible and i am questioning why i am so honest here.
I have been here a short time and I have been on internet forums for years and I have to say this is a great forum.
Hey, there are people that love to stir pots, love to troll, that is the nature of forums.
But, overall, this is a well moderated (not overly or underly) forum and I enjoy differing points of view. there are a lot here.
There is a lot of activity here and hard to keep caught up. I have missed a lot, so I am no expert about this board, but wanted to give my .02 cents
the memory of this just popped back into my mind.. i was at a 3 day congress, and the ending prayer was said by this really old brother.
he was one of the survivors of wo ii concentration camps were he was put for being a jw.. anyway, the poor man started his prayer with thanking jah, and then he recalled every piece and play of the three day congress.
i bet the man had written his prayer on paper and rehersed it each day adding a new 15 minutes to it ... he even mentioned a part where a witness lady replayed an incident on the street - she gave witness to by-standers - and one of the people she talked to had a stuffed dog.
I, too, was there. A kid, I was. The Rose Bowl - it was probably around 64 - 65 ish? I will never forget it - it was horrible. sitting there all day, I was so thankful it was time for the closing prayer - YEH!!!!! WE WERE OUT OF THERE!!!! Nope, I swear it was longer than 15 minutes - my poor little neck got stiff from bowing so long - I was peeking around at everyone....... It is one of the worse memories I have attending a meeting or assembly. and I swear our congregation ALWAYS went overtime in ALL the meetings - especially the WS study on Sunday - we where always there forever - we even had a congregation coming in after us and they all would be out in front standing there waiting for us to be over and the cars had no where to park - MY GOD! I HATED THAT!!!!! |
wonderful!
my husband decides not to decorate the house since my stupid sister asked the co of her congregation to call on us and he's been coming by on a casual basis.. well the co is in town so my husband says, "i'm not doing the house.
only the inside.
Wow - the things we go through to make people think we believe like them - how sad.I have been out so long, all of this is shicking to me.
I wonder if all the non-believers that go to the meetings just stopped going, how many people would be left? I wonder if all the pople pretending to still be in the "truth" just really told the "truth" about thier feelings, if the majority of the cult would fold? I wonder if the majority of the people just stopped the games, if the last ones holding on would wake up?
Humans don't like to be leaders - they want to be followers and they want company....what if the company left?
so is this witness mother of my son a glutton for punishment or what ?
to avoid boring you all ( as if this isn't getting a bit redundant already ) i have edited bits and pieces of the best parts of her first e-mail , and his return e-mail, and her last e-mail after his reply so you can see what went down in conversation .
thanks for reading, here is his mom on sunday night .
editing to add -
Although she didn't shun me - every conversation for the last 32 years +/- has been a preaching session - so I have had little to do with her - she does not allow me to speak and it is a lecture on Jehovah, filling me with guilt, trying to scare me - etc., etc.....so needless to say, I did lose my mom - we have had very little contact over the years. I get a memorial invitation every year with a follow up phone call to see if I received it and to confirm my attendance.....LOL
Sounds like your son knows what he may be in for and certainly is prepared for the consequences - be sure you are not too bitter against her and do encourage him to try and have a relationship with her - afterall, she is his mother.

Don't worry about your son too much. I have endured 50 years on this planet with a mom just as or more critical, obessed and devoted to Jehovah but FAR more articulate than his mom.My mom would have stopped writing and had been at my door for marathan witnessing sessions - actually, that is what she did. He'll get through it - he is smart and he has the WTS's number.
I think at this point, I would, if I were your son, just send a nice little chatty letter thanking her for her concern but his mind is made up and hopes that they can still love each other and be close to one another even if their religous beliefs differ. Let her know that he always has and always will love her and that by following his own path in NO WAY changes hw he feels about her and plans to continue a loving relationship with her. And hopefully, she feels the same. This now puts it in her lap whether she is going to shun him or not. If he continues to preach to her about his beliefs, she will cut him off as an apostate - satan - dangerous person to be around.
Her story about the swimming was poorly written - she was using a comparision - that God is like a loving parent - there to save his children and you have to completely trust him to save you, just like a little baby (him) trusted her when in the water.
She is just brainwashed. My mom actually did call me Satan himself because I was in town one Sunday and called to invite her to go out for dinner with me and my children. The time I could come by to get her was the same time she was suppose to be at the Hall......so, don't feel too bad against this woman. They are all the same - brainwashed cult members.
Fortunantly, my mom never did shun me or turn me into the congregation. I am not sure why but I think it is because years before she went to the elders for help with my dad's smoking and they df him. It was an extremely painful time for my mother - it all back fired on her and I don't think she wanted to go through that again.
She loves him, I can tell.
this is the third elder that tells me that the body of elders will recommend me as an elder in the next visit of the co.. what do you think i should do?
some facts:.
i am still 'in' because of my family.i am ms.i am doing 10+ fake hours (well, some months it is fake), so they see my "spiritual" progress.-ootb.
What World Travel said - DITTO!!!
I can't say any more without being really disrespectful, so I will leave it at that.
hey!
since the "in" and "active" jw's have their dating websites, what about us?
at the moment, i see myself, at a future date, feeling most comfortable with someone with a similar background, someone who understood the issues left over from the experience of being a jw.
Wander - LOL -
I don't know if I'd want to date someone who would want to date me.
I would require a prenuptual that if they EVER returned to the cult, the marriage is AUTOMATICALLY terminated and I get everything. So, before I would even date an ex-JW, I would have to be absolutely SURE they were OUT...I mean it, too..... ROFL. I mean, I really MEAN IT!
some of you may remember me from last spring/summer.
i was the one who kept begging her jw boyfriend to take her back after every breakup.
i came back in here the other night to read some of my past posts and replies, basically to keep myself from calling him.. i moved back to my home state this summer and am teaching here and spending tons of time with my family.
Emily!
Lot of good advice here.... he is an abuser - plain and simple.
Run, don't walk away - don't look back. You are way better off without him. Thank God you didn't marry him..... you could have been in for years of abuse.
Take care, sweetie!
Gringa
have only been out of the organisation for 2 months and the wounds still run deep.
particularly hard is the fact that my wife and 8 yr old son are now divided in our beliefs.
we cannot go out as a family with our old friends like we use to.
Oh my GOD!!!! Talk about destroying families - over cigarettes!
This forum and the stories on it break my heart everyday....
Freedom, I am not sure if anyone can tell you what to do - hopefully some can tell you what they did. I have never been faced with a spouse in the borg, but I can tell you that my dad was DF for smoking, My mom turned him in, although he never smoked around us. I was about 12 or 13 years old.
It never got any better. He did get reinstated but the trust between them was lost forever. the guilt she laid on him was sickening. He finally left us (5 kids) and never came back. I don't blame him. I hope your wife is a better person than my mom was/is.
If you love her - do what you must but don't stay because of a fricking house. Lots of us walked away with nothing. NOTHING, no family, no friends, no home. But, somehow we survived and getting out was the best thing we ever did. You can rebuild. And your son will come around. She can't stop you from seeing him.
