Sorry?
by RichieRich inover the past few days... someone who i'm no longer associated with has been out on vendetta to discredit me.
it started with a mass mail to my myspace friends, which caused nothing more than a few eyebrows to be raised.
that was the reaction of people who know me in real life.

I, for one, really like Dawg. He is one of my favorites on the board. Maybe because I, also, am an in your face kinda poster.
The forum needs lots of different personalities and types to make it operate.
I don't know who this Shell person is, but MY GOD!!! Enough already! You made your point.

These God fearing people do everything in their power to destroy the most "godly" arrangement on the earth - that of family. They put everything before that.
Yes, my dear, you need to toughen up. I am still upset over the fact my mom called me "Satan" over 10 years ago. I was in town for the day, living some miles away from her and called to take her and my brother (who was visiting from California and I hadn't seen in over a year) to a nice restaurant for dinner. It happened to be at the time of her Sunday meeting. Rather than asking me if we could do it at another time or attending the early service with the other congregation that met in the same hall, she said that I was Satan trying to keep her away from the meeting. MY GOD - she was 70 years old and was born in, never missed meetings, what would have missing one loosey meeting hurt her?
Needless to say, I have never asked her to go anywhere again. I stopped dropping by to see her, in case I might disrupt one of her many activities. I laughed when she asked me why our family was not closer! She didn't understand why all of us don't get together more and why I keep her grandchildren away from her!
I echo others here - even though I have been out for many, many years, when you have family in, they continue to exert some power over your life. I certainly live my life the way I want and don't hide it, but they all still try their damnedest to make me feel like crap - they are not winning this battle! LOL

Lies on Line...I always thought JWD was a forum for Honesty
by restrangled inafter finding this forum and being raised in the jw religion, i found jwd a refreshing place for honest feelings, fears, life experiences etc.. the history of the jw's was exposed, and those who lived any experience under this regime has been told by many members.. to be lied to by any forum member is insulting.
i have over my past year and 1/2 come to love many posters.
i realize many more have much longer time put in here.. i have been honest and exposed more of my self than i care to think about, but always kept in mind that others were doing the same and it was best for anyone new.. to lie on this forum to all of these members is horrible and i am questioning why i am so honest here.

I have been here a short time and I have been on internet forums for years and I have to say this is a great forum.
Hey, there are people that love to stir pots, love to troll, that is the nature of forums.
But, overall, this is a well moderated (not overly or underly) forum and I enjoy differing points of view. there are a lot here.
There is a lot of activity here and hard to keep caught up. I have missed a lot, so I am no expert about this board, but wanted to give my .02 cents

The longest prayer ever ...
by Vivamus inthe memory of this just popped back into my mind.. i was at a 3 day congress, and the ending prayer was said by this really old brother.
he was one of the survivors of wo ii concentration camps were he was put for being a jw.. anyway, the poor man started his prayer with thanking jah, and then he recalled every piece and play of the three day congress.
i bet the man had written his prayer on paper and rehersed it each day adding a new 15 minutes to it ... he even mentioned a part where a witness lady replayed an incident on the street - she gave witness to by-standers - and one of the people she talked to had a stuffed dog.

The longest prayer I ever suffered was at a Pasadena assembly..I think it was in the 60s.
Knorr closed it out with a prayer that went on for like, well, forever (15 minutes, at least). As I looked left and right, everybody was shifting their feet, and the kids were getting cranky.
Boy, did we all hit the exits as soon as the Amen was said. LOL
I, too, was there. A kid, I was. The Rose Bowl - it was probably around 64 - 65 ish? I will never forget it - it was horrible. sitting there all day, I was so thankful it was time for the closing prayer - YEH!!!!! WE WERE OUT OF THERE!!!! Nope, I swear it was longer than 15 minutes - my poor little neck got stiff from bowing so long - I was peeking around at everyone....... It is one of the worse memories I have attending a meeting or assembly.
and I swear our congregation ALWAYS went overtime in ALL the meetings - especially the WS study on Sunday - we where always there forever - we even had a congregation coming in after us and they all would be out in front standing there waiting for us to be over and the cars had no where to park - MY GOD! I HATED THAT!!!!!

Wow - the things we go through to make people think we believe like them - how sad.I have been out so long, all of this is shicking to me.
I wonder if all the non-believers that go to the meetings just stopped going, how many people would be left? I wonder if all the pople pretending to still be in the "truth" just really told the "truth" about thier feelings, if the majority of the cult would fold? I wonder if the majority of the people just stopped the games, if the last ones holding on would wake up?
Humans don't like to be leaders - they want to be followers and they want company....what if the company left?

editing to add -
Although she didn't shun me - every conversation for the last 32 years +/- has been a preaching session - so I have had little to do with her - she does not allow me to speak and it is a lecture on Jehovah, filling me with guilt, trying to scare me - etc., etc.....so needless to say, I did lose my mom - we have had very little contact over the years. I get a memorial invitation every year with a follow up phone call to see if I received it and to confirm my attendance.....LOL
Sounds like your son knows what he may be in for and certainly is prepared for the consequences - be sure you are not too bitter against her and do encourage him to try and have a relationship with her - afterall, she is his mother.

Don't worry about your son too much. I have endured 50 years on this planet with a mom just as or more critical, obessed and devoted to Jehovah but FAR more articulate than his mom.My mom would have stopped writing and had been at my door for marathan witnessing sessions - actually, that is what she did. He'll get through it - he is smart and he has the WTS's number.
I think at this point, I would, if I were your son, just send a nice little chatty letter thanking her for her concern but his mind is made up and hopes that they can still love each other and be close to one another even if their religous beliefs differ. Let her know that he always has and always will love her and that by following his own path in NO WAY changes hw he feels about her and plans to continue a loving relationship with her. And hopefully, she feels the same. This now puts it in her lap whether she is going to shun him or not. If he continues to preach to her about his beliefs, she will cut him off as an apostate - satan - dangerous person to be around.
Her story about the swimming was poorly written - she was using a comparision - that God is like a loving parent - there to save his children and you have to completely trust him to save you, just like a little baby (him) trusted her when in the water.
She is just brainwashed. My mom actually did call me Satan himself because I was in town one Sunday and called to invite her to go out for dinner with me and my children. The time I could come by to get her was the same time she was suppose to be at the Hall......so, don't feel too bad against this woman. They are all the same - brainwashed cult members.
Fortunantly, my mom never did shun me or turn me into the congregation. I am not sure why but I think it is because years before she went to the elders for help with my dad's smoking and they df him. It was an extremely painful time for my mother - it all back fired on her and I don't think she wanted to go through that again.
She loves him, I can tell.
