No Way. When I was a JW I was never a great believer even tho I was in it for 38 years and always worried that if it was real that I cerainly wouldnt be saved as i certainly wasn't a "good" JW. Now I live life to the full and don't give it a second thought. Can't imagine it ever is going to come and certanly don't want it to. But isn't that what all us bad apostates are supposed to believe anyway?

Kids First? "I Believe that Children are the Future"....
by SixofNine in....and that kids should come first.
ok, who knows what michael jackson really believes about children, but generally speaking "worldly" people (sorry for the jw speak, but you know what i mean) indeed believe that "children are the future" and that "kids come first".
often, "worldly" parents act accordingly, and their children thrive because of the life choices (often real sacrifices) the parents make.

Gayle, I couldn'tagree with you more, you have taken the words out of my mouth.
When I think of how we made our children do exactly what you described I cringe and I could cry. Threatening them with "Wait till you get home " just because they couldn't sit still or were drawing breaks my heart and the smacks they got just to satisfy other people that we were disciplining our children. This is the one thing I really hate, the kind of people it made us. And to think they ENCOURAGED smacking children and brainwashed us into thinking it was right, I could scream in frustration.
I am so lucky that my children have developed into well balanced adults DESPITE this upbringing with whom we have fantastic relationships and don't hold any grudges, realising we were as trapped as they were. This is the comfort I get now when I think about it.

hi there
Welcome to the forum. I am fairly new myself but know just what you are going through. I was born and bred in the organisation but never ever wanted to be a JW, but like you was so scared of letting my family down if I left. I led a double life as they called it from about 16-21 until I married. The only good thing was I met my hubby at an asembly and we have been married for 26 years regardless of the fact that we kept going till 8 years ago.
You sound quite young so please don't waste any more years if its not what you want. My only regret is because of family pressure we stayed in it so long and we thought we would have no life if we left. I can honestly say we have never been happier since breaking away so please don't let family pressure put you off marrying the person you want. They will come round in time especially if you just drift and gradually breakaway. Thats the easy way to do it and it means you can still maintain your relationship with your family.
You will find lots of support on here and find many in your situation so don't feel you are alone.

When my daughter got pregnant at 16 and was seen by the elders my husband kicked them out and wouldn't let them question her even tho he was an elder himself. However half the details were repeated by a pioneer sister, who coincedently was the best friend of the elders family, to my friend an that was the straw that broke the camels back as far as my husband was concerned. We even took it as far as the CO because there was a definite breach of confidentiality, but did it get us anywhere? God no, they denied everything so it was brushed under the carpet as per usual.
Looking back it was the best thing that ever happened cos it sent us on our way away from the hypocritical bunch of gits!

Followed by fresh fruit salad and cream yum. never were able to cook sunday dinner for lunch when going to meetings so always make it a point of doing it and having the family round. Just relaxing with a nice cup of tea right now and going to spend a relaxing cuople of hours gossipping with one of my neighbour friends. Ah Bliss!!!!!.
On the other hand could be sat in a freezing /over warm KH being bored out of my brains. Which would you choose?

Its only in the last year or so that I have been able to admit that I was ever a witness.Hopefully this means that I am finally coming to terms with it.
When I left 8 years ago I had just started a new job and there was no way I would ever have admitted I had been one. It was so lovely being accepted by my new workmates that I was just normal and did the normal things that thhey did. Years later when theconversation came round to it my boss said that if she had known at the time I had been a witness she probably wouldn't have offered me the job as she had had bad experiences with some not being able to work certain times and preaching to other staff too much, and just being generally weird.
I don't know how politically correct that was but it puts adage to the old tail they used to spin that being a witness in the workplace meant you were respected. Not likely!!!!!!!

Hi all
its great knowing that others are feeling the same way as I do even after breaking away for 8 years. Does the hold they seem to have over us ever seem to go away?

My kid comes home from the meeting worried about the devil. I'm not happy.
by jambon1 inthis was one of the many reasons that i left the org.
i just could not agree with some of the beliefs & ideas that kids are exposed to at the hall.
having not been raised in the org, i never had any idea what effect it all had on kids.

Why does your wife think she has the monopoly of taking them to the KH? She is taking them away from your company for at least 4 days of the week if she takes them on FS on a sat too. Put your foot down and tell her you have a right to spend time with the kids also and restrict them to going just once a week as a compromise.
Also ask them if they like going. My grandaughter is 8 and sometimes goes with her other JW grandparents but grumbles like mad about going and says "she's glad she doesn't go all the time as its so boring and you have to sit still for 2 hours and not allowed to draw even cos grandma will get into trouble if she lets me!" If they don't like going then really put your foot down!!!!!!!!

When I was about 9 or 10 we had been studying the revelation book. My best friend at the time woke up in the middle of the night after a chapter studying the 7 headed wild beast. She had had a vivid night mare of this beast being in her bedroom and when she woke up thought it was real. She actually opened her bedroom window and climbed out tried to get down the drainpipe and fell and broke her ankle but still ran down the street in her nightie screaming thee was a wild beast in her room and had to be brought back by a neighbour who heard her screaming in the street. The scary thing was her 6 month old sister was asleep in her room and she was going to jump with her but had second thoughts thank goodness
