I'd say for those of us who are shunned it's not something we can just "let go" especially if we see and deal with these people daily, like I do with my daughter, I struggle daily realizing that my poor choices to join this religion will potentially bite me in the ass if she chooses to grow up ans shun me like her father does. What a life, to be hated by your own creation.... (gee, how ironic)

do you feel posting on JWD helps or hinders your recovery?
by burningbridges insometimes i wonder if posting on this site helps me "recover" from the trauma that the witnesses put me through, and have no doubt it does at times.
no where else is there such a support team of individuals who know personally what you've been through and how you feel.
but at the same time, i often wonder if coming on here causes me to obsess in a way, preventing me from "moving on" with my life.

I wish I were a JW in good standing again...
by zeroday inno thinking no decisions to make just work at my menial job scrubbing toilets and washing windows, go out in service every week attend all the meetings answer at the appropriate questions and no oral sex...yes times would be so simple for me now but then i would have to deal with my atheism and i'm sure i will go directly to hell...

I wouldn't be quite so sinister, I'd quietly take notes and plant seeds of doubt, secretly pointing people to this site (while not letting them know my identity here) I'd do a great job of informing you all of whats going on on the "inside" like some of you graciously do.... we all appreciate that....

journey-on,
yes the "me" i present here is the real me. If it wasn't what would I be gaining? I talk about my real issues here, my divorce, my custody battle, my fears, things that I'm struggling with and just need people with similiar situations to share with. I haven't had anything interesting to "present" other than what I've really struggled with, and honestly none of it's intersting, if anyting, a lot of its pathetic.

So I'm curious, this "Trevor" or "Danny" your talking about, is that where you guys talk about Trolls? Can I have a real life experience of something bad that happened? How can a "troll" be so bad? Arent they still learning (or fading?) or is it much more sinister than that?

Sometimes I wonder if posting on this site helps me "recover" from the trauma that the Witnesses put me through, and have no doubt it does at times. No where else is there such a support team of individuals who know personally what you've been through and how you feel. But at the same time, I often wonder if coming on here causes me to obsess in a way, preventing me from "moving on" with my life. I know I have to accept the fact that I will forever be scarred from the Witnesses and their is no removing that permentantly, but how do you guys feel about it? Do you sometimes feel that this site makes you dwell on your negative feelings towards the organization and hinders your moving on from it or does it better allow you to cope? Also, much time do we all spend on here a day? Me, I spend about an hour a day on here reading threads sometimes posting. Maybe thats too much.... but I highly doubt I'm a record holder

on my head stone i want:
mourn not for me for family dear,
I am not dead but sleeping here.
As I am now, so you shall be.
Prepare yourself to follow me.
When I was a teen I saw that on an old crumblinbg headstone from the seventeen hundreds. thought it was beautful. still do.

Ever wonder how seemingly smart people can be duped?
by fern indoes anyone ever wonder how their seemingly intelligent family members can be so totally taken in by this religion?
i look at my parents and just wonder how in the world do you fall for this jw crap?
neither of my parents are college educated but by no means are they stupid and have good judgement and sense when it comes to a lot of things, but not this religion.

Who is vulnerable to cults?
Everyone has the potential to be susceptible to cult recruitment and coercion at particularly vulnerable points of their life.
Transitional times tend to increase vulnerability:
- During a vacation
- First year away at school
- A year "off" or after graduation
- A job change or loss
- After suffering any loss
- Upon reaching new life stages
- Following the break-up of a relationship
- Soon after moving to another city or country
- During a search for meaning, or to "find oneself."
- Lonely, without, or away from friends or family
Who is the "typical" recruit?
The recruit can be almost anyone including:
- From middle to upper socio-economic family backgrounds
- Sixteen to senior citizen
- Of average or above-average intelligence
- Usually well educated, including college graduates
- Intellectually curious
- Idealistic or seeking meaning or purpose in life
- Most vulnerable between high school and college, and between college and career
- When temporarily unattached

You might be a witness if you are the only one at the drive-in that requires three people in your car to go on a date.
