Why a college education is bad
by TooBad TooSad inat our recent butt numbing, mind dulling, sleep inducing district assembly on saturday morning there.
was a talk where the speaker said that we are going to make a list that shows the contrast between.
jehovah's organization and satan's organization.

Agreed. When my mom found out I'm leaving, she said "its because you have too much money".
In reality, I did go to college, and have a good job. I have a good quality of life for myself and my family. So in my case college did make me leave only in that 1) I have critical thinking skills and 2) Since I don't have a poor miserable life, I don't need a fake relationship with an invisible man in the sky to help justify my existance and give me false hope of a new life after I die.

Condescending Style of the book Keep Yourselves in God's Love
by VM44 inatlantis has posted a download link for the 2008 book release, "keep yourselves in god's love".
i read a page or so from the book, and the first thing i notices is the simple language used that sounds like it is written to be read by a little child who is in elemenatary school.. the styel if very condescending and actually is insulting as if the reader is expected to have a very low level of intelligence or reading ability.. what is going on?
why is bethel printing such material?.

I had a really hard time with the 'dumbed down' material. I had to FORCE myself to answer during the WT because it went everything I had intellectually to blindly just repeat an answer verbatim as stated in a paragraph written at a 5th grade level. Therefore I rarely ever answered...

Thanks!
Notice the first Appendix is about how to
shuntreat a DFd person. Makes me sick. In black & white, you cannot say Hello to a DFd one!"A simple 'Hello' to someone can be the first step that develops into a conversation and maybe even a friendship. Would we want to take that first step with a disfellowshiped person?"
"Losing precious fellowship with loved ones may help him to come 'to his senses,' see the seriousness of his wrong, and take steps to return to Jehovah."
What BS. Talk about control... talk about a cult...

Ever fake ring a bell? Take a long time writing down not at homes?
by yourmomma inmy whole life, even when i pioneered, i dreaded field service.
i was always uncomfertable rolling up to peoples houses uninvited.
so i used to have this technique where i would pretend to ring the bell.

My whole life, even when I pioneered, I DREADED field service
On a similar note, we've noticed that MOST JWs hate service. We only know of a few couples that actually like it. Everyone else just goes through the motions because they are guilted into it, or to keep their status, image, etc.

Looking Back, Was Being A Witness A Worthless Experience To You?
by minimus inwas there anything positive about being a jehovah's witness?
-
Robert7
For me, being a Witness wasn't too bad. Since I was a slacker, I didn't invest too much time in preparing and service. It kept me out of trouble during my late teens and 20's, and I met my wife (who is also leaving the faith!).
I say overall, it brought me to where I am today, and I am very happy where I am. Actually, I would likely be worse off overall right now if I had not come into the faith... However, I no longer believe the faith, and I no longer want to be a part of it and I need to move on.
Life's a journey, and I am starting a new chapter...

The WTB&TS best defense against apostates
by Gregor ini had 2 nice ladies come to the door this morning.
i played it very cool as long as i could, asking "dumb" questions like what ever happened to your 1914 generation teaching?
i knew it could only go so far and sure enough they began to smell a dirtyratcat.

The best defense against apostates is to have no lies, errors, and flip-flops to hide to begin with. Without all that, you have nothing to fear so badly to label anyone who disagrees.

When the fog lifted - did you see the control tactics everywhere?
by AK - Jeff init took a while for me - but after some time i began to see most all religion as controlling entities, interested not only in forcing doctrine on adherents, but also, and perhaps primarily, seeking to control believers.
i initially saw this as somewhat benign, but have increasingly seen it as dangerous, even a malignant force in human social-evolution.
i see a far-right fundy church and it virtually screams "jwism" to me.
-
Robert7
Oh my yes, and it's taken a good 6 months to really get a good view of the control. I am just now really seeing the Society for what it is, and seeing its tactics. It takes quite a bit of time to deprogram and 'look from the outside in'. This means stripping your WTS thought process and thinking for yourself, analyzing what they have written, and not just having the 'WT response'. This is very much easier said than done, especially early on.
I think things like V's videos and Blondie's Watchtower Comments, where they do a good job exposing the manipulation, fear, and outright lies.
Also add to that books like COC and others and visiting websites including JWD and slowly you see more and more exposed.
What finally has shown the control is the actions of the elders themselves. We had a brief 'witch-hunt' when a single comment of doubt was said. Immediately elders were calling wanting to meet with us. To me, this extreme fear (and intolerance) of doubt really was the final straw, showing me how much of a cult this is. It was only after this incident where I call the JWs a cult.

How did you handle facing the reality of death?
by song19 infor those raised or who got the truth at a young age, how have you been able to handle the reality that you are in fact, eventually, going to die in this system?.
for me, this was a real hard reality check.
as a witness, my entire life i was convinced that i would see armageddon, that i wouldnt grow old and die.

I am a big believer of knowing the 'real truth' versus some myth that will help me sleep at night. So as of now I belive there is nothing after you die, just like it was before I was born.
There is nothing I can do to change that. Everyone in the past has died, and all of us today will eventually die. So why worry about it. I believe to make life as good as it can be and not to worry about things I cannot control.
