I would take the kids in the back room to play, then either play games or read news on my Blackberry. If anyone walked in, I'd quickly drop the Blackberry in my pocket and no one ever caught on.

Jehovahs Witnesses presumptive terms that that they apply to themselves
by Leprechaun injehovahs witnesses presumptive terms that that they apply to themselves: help me point out some more presumptive terms that do manipulate people by hearing it all the time.. .
1. gods clean organization" (as though, they are aware of all hidden secrets within the rank and file at any given moment , and they are arthorized from god to declare someone clean or not clean when in reality it is christ ransom that accomplishes this.).
2. the christian congregation" (as though, no one else can lay claim to being christian or christ like".

If you felt/feel that you had/have good, close "friends" in the org, how did/does it feel to just give them up?
by Crisis of Conscience inthis is my biggest dilema.
although mentally i really feel i could walk away from the org right now, i still have genuine love for the people i have come to know over the years.
i love people!.

It's THE hardest part of leaving. Simply -mentioning- that we may not believe anymore caused virtually all friends to drop us an run immediately. I mean just a sentence! Not one even tried to comfort us, work with us, find out what's wrong. Just scared to death of 'Satan', 'doubt', etc, and they left us.
There is no easy answer here. We had some very good friends who were very good people, some the whom I still think we may never meet again. It's tough, but end of the day it does get easier and you do slowly find good friends outside the cult...
Be ready to be dropped. WT articles say to not only to avoid non-JW's ('worldly people', I hate that term) but even avoid weak ones in teh congregation. Best thing to do is start a social network out the cult now, to have something to fall back on when the time comes. And on that note, most of our friends know we are former JW's, and know the story of all our friends dropping us, and they are all very respectful and supportive. This helps a lot.

Most people who are not JW's live with out moral restrain! All who have left the "Truth" regret it. June 15th WT
by life is to short inin the june 15th wt it says on page 9 i will just write it out as it is to hard and unbelievable to preface this.
so here it is.. "many who today are members of the christian congregation can tell you that before learning of and adopting jehovah's righteous standards, they lived without moral restrain.
yet, they were unsatisfied and unhappy.

dgp, with the case in Montreal I still would hold that most people are decent even without the law enforcement. There is a very small percentage of the population who seize a moment to steal, rob, and loot. We have to remember that 99.999% of the people did NOT steal rob and loot.

The WTS is so good in brainwashing people to not even consider life outside the cult. EVERYONE is miserable and immoral outside the cult and ONLY are happy when they return. When you read and hear this enough at meetings you start believing it without even realizing it.

when in field service, was there any stupid rules that had to be followed?
by rockmehardplace ini was reading the topic on sisters having to sit in the backseat even if it was their car.
made me think of a few rules i was subjected to.
one was we were not allowed to have a radio on.

Similar to palmtree67, My wife used to tell me stories about how the sisters HAD to listen to the brother. I would hear stories how the brother was an idiot, very inefficient, doing wrong streets, doing some twice, etc, and the sisters were NOT allowed to question him. Absolute stupidity. If it were me I would appreciate a sister telling me where I could be more efficient and make everyones life easier.

The point in time when I realised that I would one day no longer be a Jehovahs Witness
by jambon1 inthis was after my 'honeymoon' period of being a new jw.
yet, it was still a couple of years before i actually left.. i remember sitting in the kh listening to the meeting & my mind wandered.
i started looking around the congregation.

Crownboy, 9-11 was a turning point for me too. After the event, my wife and I went to the service meeting and expected comfort, at least some discussion on the issue... but nothing! All they did was at the end pray for the brothers affected. That's it! Left such a void which slowly exposed the hypocracy in the faith.

Christian Radio show sounded a lot like a KH talk!
by sd-7 ini happened to be driving to pick up my wife and [step]daughter from the kh last night.
i was listening to the radio and happened to press the preset button in my car.
surprisingly, two of them connected me to two different christian radio stations!

I drive on trips for work on occasion, and I sometimes enjoy getting a laugh listening to Christian radio. Some are even more nutty than the JW's. The born-agains tend to be more out there, talking about being saved, and non-believers will go to hell.

I remember 'the switch'... This was after loads of doubts, but this was the final straw that mentally made me switch...
During a service meeting a brother AGAIN discussed WWII and how the brothers were persecuted. This used to bother me since, oh, 6 MILLION Jews died, but the JW's talk about a few thousands brothers dying... that night when I heard that comment a thousandth time, 'click' I was out... I immediatley did more research online, and quickly found JWD. It was history from there.

It's quite simple really...
by undercover ini remember when i first started questioning the wts/jws.
there were so many scandals and teachings and history to explore and research.
i needed to learn everything i could about every little inconsistency, every mistake, every scandal in order to convince myself that i was on the correct path to freedom from this false religion.

And they have never apologized
And what really pisses me off more is that not only did they not apologize, they tried blaming their members for over-expectations. Dubs today still use that excuse.
