Maybe Jehovah is the "President and CEO of the universe" and Jesus is the "Regional VP in charge of Earth".
Maybe there are Jesus-like messiahs on other distant planets, who are Regional VP for this planet and that planet.
Never know...

What does Jehovah do?
by LouBelle inokay this is for current jws' - if there are lurkers, or for those that may not neccessarily believe in jehovah but believe that him and jesus are 2 different spirits.. we have jesus - creating the world and everything in it, then he's on earth healing, preaching.
he dies, gets resurrected and goes back to heaven.
throws satan and his demons outta heaven in 1914, rules the kingdom, checking sure that everything is going smoothly........ what is jehovah doing?

My conversation with a Born Again.
by yourmomma ini spoke with a born again today.
i am wondering if this person represents how they all think or just some.
i'll assume just some.

Absolutely my opinion. One thing I have learned getting out of the JW faith, is that I respect all views. I am also cynical by nature, so it shows in my writing, but I really do have respect for all views, even if I don't agree.
People leaving the JW faith are 'hurt' and trying to find their way. I have no idea where that will take me, but I am open for discussion and research.
So no disrespect to the Born Agains out there. I am just stating my opinion. -

What is Heaven?
by Robert7 inbased on my research the last few months, i think i realize what heaven is.
this is not a new concept, and i'm sure many have come to this conclusion... .
thousands of years ago, the belief was an 'earth-centric' universe.

Based on my research the last few months, I think I realize what heaven is. This is not a new concept, and I'm sure many have come to this conclusion...
Thousands of years ago, the belief was an 'earth-centric' universe. Down here was earth, and above the earth was really unknown. What was known was what can be seen, the sun, stars, clouds, rain, etc. They also had no appreciation of how large space was, or really what outer space was.
So given that early man has no way to explain what was above, they made up stories of Gods and angels above all looking down at the world. It would have made sense, since at the time, the Earth was all that was known, and the skies above was the only other thing that existed... So when you die, you float up to this place to be with God and look down upon the Earth. It helped explain what happens when you die.
With modern knowledge, and with space travel, we can look back at the Earth and obviously see that the Earth is floating in black space. Nothing less, nothing more. No floating heaven around the Earth full of Gods and angels.
So my theory is that Heaven is a myth developed many years ago to explain the unknown, and passed down from generation to generation. -

That's an interesting question. I used to wonder the same thing. If Jehovah is all powerful, first of all why need Jesus? He doesn't need help.
As an all-powerful God, he doesn't need rest. So he's doing nothing... or doesn't exist... -

I have found that Evangelical Christians (who are Born Again) are quite a radical Christian group. They, like the JWs, have a black & white view on others. If you believe in Jesus, you are saved, and if you don't believe in Jesus, you go to hell, which mean a majority of the world.
Where I have found Evangelicals being potentially more dangerous than JWs is that they believe that the Rapture is coming, and the world is ending. Unlike the JWs, the Evangelicals have power. Bush is one. So this becomes a self-fulfilling prophesy. They believe that the world will end soon, so why not destroy it?
Combine that with the other radical extremists, and we have a recipe for disaster. If everyone thinks that God will destroy the world, then they may think that destroying it is part of God's will. Destrying doesn't mean nuke the planet, but let it go to hell. Pollute, strip the forests, run everything with a short-term view since God will intervene soon.
Personally I feel like this is one of the major near term challenges for mankind, people fulfilling these made-up phophesies. -

There, clean and concise, and makes as much sense any all the other theories.

Using their own techniques
by outofthebox inyou know how they teach that you should come back to people houses because they circumstances may change and if they may be receptive to the good news(tm)?.
we know what that means: "if somebody has problems he/she will be vulnerable and may see you as an angel sent by god and they will believe 1914 easily.".
but here is the twist: why don't use their methods against them?.
-
Robert7
I agree. This subtle method is probably the best method against them. Anything that is more hard-lined or direct will cause most JWs to get defensive, and you will be labeled apostate. Subtlety works...

I think I am an Atheist (current JW)
by Robert7 ini am writing this group to discuss a topic that as you can imagine i really cannot discuss with too many people, at least as of now.
i am a married male jw, married to a another jw, and she's content with being a witness, and in fact, i don't want to change that if she's happy.. for a very brief history, i was baptized at 19, and have been a jw for 10 years.
fact is, i 'believed' in everything in as much as a lot of it 'made sense' and i was wrapped up in the whole thing.

So I still do go on Sundays, but that's it. I do drop hints at times, but I think she's pretty convinced that it's not 'the truth' but to her it's good enough. So actually, there's not much for me to say because at this point she's not ready to leave.
The good thing about my having been weak in the faith for a while, is that my kids are not indoctrinated in the views. For example, they do not see worldly people as dead in Jehovah's eyes. I never believed it, and I never pushed it on the kids. So for now, they are getting some of the good things out of going to the meetings.
We never specifically discussed the blood issue, but I would be honest with how I feel. I would absolutely not support the issue with her or my kids. Life is more valuable than some man-made rule. If it came down to a life/death situation, I'll tell her that the bloodguilt is on me, and she will be fine. Kids aren't baptised, so the rule doesn't apply to them anyway. I hope it never comes to the blood issue, but I bet I could win in court if I had to, since the courts tend to value life over the blood issue (crazy concept). -

For anyone who is interested... here's an update...
The last 2 months since I left the JW faith has been a really big roller coaster ride on my and my marriage. My wife initially looked at me like I went mad, exactly as programmed by the JWs. After having some rational conversations, and after she found my COC book, she actually has pulled her mind outside the borg, and actually agrees with a lot of my issues!
She currently is active because of social ties, the congregation being her only friendship. Plus she feels like based on what she knows of the bible, the JWs are at least pretty close. I don't agree, but I am respecting it.
I personally am non-religious. I currently do not believe in the existance of the god of the bible. I don't believe the Bible is the word of god, but a compilation of history and myths. If there is a god, he does not actively affect our lives.
I personally think that it is impossible for anyone to know the answers that religion is supposed to answer. No one knows why we're here, who is god, and what happens when we die. So I feel that people should focus on making this life the best it can be, be kind to others, help others, and what happens after death is unknown to everyone.
I have learned in general to not trust anyone without fair due-dilligence. It is smart and vital that everyone questions things, and not accept things at face value.
So given all this, I am actually happy. I am enjoying life every day without any man-made fears of destruction, armageddon, fear of the 'world', etc. I am reminded life is a journey, and I am embarking on my next step outside the JW faith. I have no idea where it will take me, but I will enjoy the ride, the learning, research, friends, relationships. I know I wigrow and my ideas will change, and I am excited to see where my journies take me....
