HOW THE ORGANIZATION HAS LASTED THIS LONG...
by Mary inthis is in response to a post i did on another thread about the borg not having as much swagger as they used to.
it was suggested that i post it under a new topic so here it is.
it's a brief summary of the decades and how they've managed to get away with claiming that 'the end' is nigh for over 130 years now.

Introducing myself.........
by awildflower inhi all, i've been reading this site for about a month now and decided it was time to jump in.
it is truly a blessing to have people who know exactly what we are going through.
some background, i'll keep it short:.

Welcome Awildflower!
I definitly believe in God and his son Jesus and everlasting life, no matter what form that will take.
I absolutely agree.
Romans 8:38, 39:
For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
You don't need the WTS in your life. Nobody does. And good for you for realizing that.

Friends, Study Partners, and then GONE...
by ptucker8357 inabout a year and 12 ago, after much conversation with a jw co-worker, we began a formal study.
we studied religiously (no pun intended) almost every week unless i was on business travel or there was a sickness or other item that precluded us from getting together.. .
during that process, we became very strong, close friends... at least that is what i thought was happening.

Hello, PTucker, and welcome to JWN.
I am sorry about the pain that you are feeling about your lost friendship. But the JW that you studied with was using the technique of love bombing on you.
Wikipedia/http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Love_bombing:
Love bombing is the deliberate show of affection or friendship by an individual or a group of people toward another individual. Critics have asserted that this action may be motivated in part by the desire to recruit, convert or otherwise influence.
Critics of cults often cite love bombing as one of the features that may identify an organization as a cult. When used by critics, the phrase is defined to mean affection that is feigned or with an ulterior motive and that is used to reduce the subject's resistance to recruitment.
The term was popularized by psychology professor Margaret Singer, who has become closely identified with the love-bombing-as-brainwashing point of view. In her 1996 book, Cults in Our Midst, she described the technique thus:
"As soon as any interest is shown by the recruits, they may be love bombed by the recruiter or other cult members. This process of feigning friendship and interest in the recruit was originally associated with one of the early youth cults, but soon it was taken up by a number of groups as part of their program for luring people in. Love bombing is a coordinated effort, usually under the direction of leadership, that involves long-term members' flooding recruits and newer members with flattery, verbal seduction, affectionate but usually nonsexual touching, and lots of attention to their every remark. Love bombing - or the offer of instant companionship - is a deceptive ploy accounting for many successful recruitment drives."
JW's are a cult of Christianity. Its members frequently employ this misleading technique in order to convert the unwary. If the study does not get baptized in a reasonable time period, or once baptized, decides to leave, that person is considered unworthy to associate with. Pray for him, so that he will see the light one day, and consider yourself blessed for finding out the truth about how the JW's operate, before you decided to take the final step of baptism.

Did you know that the WTS taught until 1970 that the GT had started in 1914 and had a temporary interruption in 1918.
Thank you for the information, Blondie. No, I didn't know, but now that I do, it only adds to the mountain of evidence that proves that the WTS is a false prophet and teacher.

Some are honest, some are not. It depends on the nature of the person.

Hobo Ken, that's a splendid argument about the gift of prophesying! I shall definitely remember it!
And it's truly amazing how one of the elders says researching like it is a filthy word. "You've been researching...your life is consumed with that [researching]..." He is condemning you for obeying scripture (1Th 5:12).

BF, if it works for you, great. But I would never do it.
I am sure that I tested my husband's patience prattling on about whatever dreck the WTS pushed forward. And he did have "a Bible study" . But ultimately, he decided that it wasn't for him.
Whenever we spoke about the Society's practices, he asked me straight, honest questions. Are the JW's a cult, he would ask. I would answer no, of course, but the fact that he thought so would disturb me, and it made me question why anyone would think so. Aren't we supposed to eat the emblems, he would ask during the Memorial. And his question got me to thinking about just how scriptural the WTS really is. I'm glad that he took that approach. I was already being lied to; I did not need any more lies and head games in my life.
I believe that this is a fight that must be fought honestly. If I cannot convince with honesty and truthfulness, then I must resign myself with great sadness to the words of 1Timothy 4:1: "Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils."

I don't know if I look smart. My opinion would be biased, of course!
But I do look different...but not in the way that any of you could guess. (Cookies if anyone does, though!)
And I love to iron! Instant gratification never looked so good!
