My Witness Sister Asks Me For Her Inactive Daughters Phone Number ?
by flipper inamazingly enough my jw sister ( very self righteous ex-gilead graduate ) called me for the first time in 3 years asking for her own 32 year old inactive daughters phone number .
her husband's mom died last friday , my brother -in -laws mom , and she said she had not talked with her daughter, my niece , in 5 years.
my sister dissapproved of her daughter getting a law degree at a university in california and shunned her for 5 years because her daughter stopped going to meetings to get an education !

Mr. Flipper:
So glad to know that you've found someone who loves only you... And so sorry to hear about your sister...wow...it still boggles the mind to read about this kind of behavior from family members that are still active JWs. It just emphasizes the deceitful nature of the Society -- 'Bringing Families Together'. Are you and Mrs. Flipper planning to attend the funeral services? If so, than perhaps you and your niece can support one another -- that is, if she decides to attend too. At the present time, it seems that your sister will also have on her 'cult personality', if and when she sees her daughter again. So sad...
Merry Christmas to you and Mrs. Flipper.

Vote for your favorite "celebrated JW scholar"!!
by onacruse innow, there are so many from which to choose...where is one to start?.
well, since i'm an old-timer, i must by default cast my vote for clayton j. woodworth, that inspired author and editor of the golden age who single-handedly warned the world about the dangers of aluminum cookware and vaccinations, among so many other things.. only once in a generation comes along a man with such inspired insights as to baffle the minds of mere ordinary humans..

For my money, C.J. Woodworth wins hands down. I especially enjoyed The Finished Mystery, where he extolls the joys of demon possession. Apparently during his tenure as editor of The Golden Age he exposed occultism and demonism to the good worshippers of Jehovah on a regular basis. Truly an awe inspiring man!

Reading between the lines in the January 2008 "Our Kingdom Ministry"
by TooBad TooSad ini like to read the km to see what the wtbts is saying, and then to think about what they really mean.. information appears in the km when problem need to be addressed in the organization.
the article on.
the front page "make the most of your time in the ministry" was insightful to me.

"If you are elderly or infirm, you may be able
to auxiliary pioneer by spending a little time each day in the ministry." The word infirm means "weak, feeble, not
stable, or frail."
The hell you say!
You know, this is one of of the reasons why I left. There were times when, due to my illness, I was barely able to hobble into the KH, and sometimes I had to sit in a chair in the vestibule because I couldn't make it to the main part of the Hall. You would think that the elders would be glad that I at least showed up, but no, after a few times times they removed all the chairs in the vestibule in order to force me to go in. That was when I started sitting in the ladies'. Then I stopped showing up altogether. There was no way I was going to kill myself for them!

My son won't be spending Christmas with us...
by lavendar inmy son has been studying with the "gurus" at the kingdom hall for the last few years.
for those of you who were non-jws most of your life (and used to celebrate christmas), then joined the wts cult........didn't you miss spending christmas with your family??.

...I convinced my self that as much as I was "hurting"....that I was surely "pleasing Jehovah" and would eventually be blessed and rewarded for my "sacrifices". The worst thing of all was waking up to realize that I was ONLY pleasing the Watchtower after all was said and done.
Yes. Not the rank commercialism, but the companionship of my family.
I'm glad that your son is not baptized yet, lavendar. I hope that one day soon he will walk (no run) away from the WTS.

I have a theory. Please take my poll!
by changeling ini'd like you all to tell me 2 or 3 things:.
1- were you raised a witness or not?.
2-if you were, was your family very "theocratic" or not so much?.
-
Marjorie
1. No, but had JW relatives that spirited me away to every meeting, convention, and assembly that they could to, as a child and teenager, under the guise of 'visiting with the family'. Secretly left WTS literature in my room, without my knowledge or parental permission. Took me on their bible studies and to their Kingdom Halls all the freaking time - the congregations even knew me by my first name!
2. My family was ultra-theocratic (for Roman Catholics). Had only 1 pair of pants and 1 pair of shorts at any one time during my entire childhood and adolescence. Hence the hidden literature.
3. Non-denominational Christian.

Higher education will lead you down the road to sin and depravity
Long hair and beards on men is unchristian, even though Christ had a beard and long hair.
Celebrating birthdays are evil, even though Job the upright and blameless man celebrated the birthdays of each of his children.
'New light' is Jehovah's way of enlightening the organization, ignoring the fact that if the organization were truly directed by the Holy Spirit, it wouldn't need any enlightenment to begin with.
They are the only ones preaching about God's Kingdom, where there is ample evidence to the contrary.
Preaching is their way of making the world a better place, whereas Jesus not only preached, but went out and healed the sick, cast out demons, fed the hungry, advocated for the care of the poor, broke bread with sinners, refused to hold himself aloof from the world.
Shunning family members (even parents) who are disfellowshipped or disassociated makes them holy, whereas Jesus specifically laid out the that the things that defile a man in Matthew 15:19, 20, and 1 Titus 5:8 counsels that those who do not provide for their own household are worse than unbelievers.
They have restored the original composition of the Bible, by adding the name of Jehovah where it was not found in the original texts, and twisting several scriptures slightly to bolster their own viewpoints and eschatology, whereas in Revelation 22:18, 19 it says that the punishment for adding or subtracting anything from the Bible is DEATH.

What gave you the courage to say no more

Welcome to the board ILikeToThink!
4 years. Four years. And he claims to love you? Pffft.
My advice is make is to make it as brief as possible. Ignore their cries for an extended explanation. The JW's are a cult and their main goal is to make converts, then control said converts for the rest of their lives. Don't give them a chance to whip out the Bible, because JW's are world masters at twisting scriptures to suit their own purposes. Saying that you have to try harder, it's your fault why this gibberish doesn't make sense. Yup, I too was a victim of all the guilt trips, the fear of divine retribution because I was rejecting 'God's organization' (censored), do it NOW because Armageddon is almost here. The sad fact is that I capitulated and wasted ten years of my life. You're a clever girl; you didn't get baptized. Good. Get away now while you still have your life intact.
And what gave me the courage to say no more:
When I refused to no longer deny the things that I had seen with my very own eyes, heard with my very own ears. Because I wanted a more personal relationship with God and Jesus Christ, with no ridiculous doctrines to get in my way. Because I finally realized that I could do better, that I deserved better. My family deserved better.
You deserve better too. We all do.

Does he need them no matter what to fulfill prophecy about the good news being preached over the whole inhabited earth?
Jake, God doesn't need us, or an organization. He will utilize whomever he sees fit to utilize, at the time of his choosing. We are the ones that need HIM.
I'm sorry that your totally biased, one-sided disfellowshipping was your method of discovering the deceitfulness of the WTS, but as has been suggested before, it's better that you get out now. It's a false prophet, Jake. And you know Jehovah's punishment for false prophets (Deuteronomy 18:20). The evidence is out there:

There are also many threads here at JWD that will help help get a clue on what we all have been dealing with while in the WTS: that it is a cult. It hurts, but that is the truth about 'the Truth'. We are all your friends here, Jake. Whatever you decide, we'll be here for you.
