I know in the past that Michael McDonald has been listed as a JW.
Source, please? I'd never heard this.
i know in the past that michael mcdonald has been listed as a jw.
in fact, i thought that was the case for a number of years.. he just sang america the beautiful on tv prior to the obama nomination and has a no-no beard and longer than "acceptable" hair.. what's going on?.
rub a dub.

i still have the jws beliefs, but havent attended in probably 5 years or so.
i have an interesting question to ask.. as much as everyone slams the jws on here, i want some insite on politics.
now i watched the democratic covention the last few nights, and i really want a democrat myself, but couldnt help hearing bill, hillary and other democrats wanting not only wanting equal rights for all races, children, but also homosexuals.
In the past, the Bible has been used to support many prejudices and false beliefs that are now no longer generally held.
"The black man was cursed by God." -- This notion was used to support slavery and prejudice.
"The earth is the center of the universe." -- This was actually believed to be strongly supported by scripture.
Society in general is now advancing to the understanding that homosexuality is an inborn disposition rather than an immoral choice. So as humanity advances, this notion too will be set aside.
Interestingly, even some Bible-scholars challenge the premise that the Bible condemns homosexuality. Check out this link: http://deananderson.wordpress.com/2007/10/05/the-bible-does-not-strongly-condemn-homosexuality/
As an atheist, I agree that religion has historically enlarged existing divisions among people and promoted prejudice. When people set aside religious superstition they often face reality more clearly and even treat their neighbors as they would like to be treated -- a universal principle of good (not just a religious one).
i was at target and pushed my cart down the aisle in her direction.
she was walking towards me and looked straight at me.
i smiled as i approched her.
Sometimes when JW's act like that, I think they may be more scared than hateful. They've just come across a 'marked' person or an ex-member IN PUBLIC, and their mind races a million miles an hour -- what to do? what to do? ESCAPE !!
I feel more sorrow than anger for some of them because of the fear inculcated by their cultish religion.
in 612 b.c.e., a vision transports ezekiel to jerusalem.
what detestable things he sees happening in god's temple!when jehovah sends his heavenly executional forces (represented by "six men") to express his anger at the apostates, only those who have received 'a mark on the forehead' will be spared.. the watchtower july 1, 2007. p. 11, column 2 para.
revelation 14:9-11 (new international version).
Cameo-D,
Your quote from the 2007 Watchtower is in reference to the marking in the book of Ezekiel. In that prophecy, a mark means you're saved.
The 'mark' in Revelation is one of support of the world's system, and that mark means you're dead meat.
So the WTS used the proper context -- at least this time.

> This selection of Biden is an unsurprising "safe" choice. Obama realizes the electorate doesn't want to hear the "change" theme any more, and the polls are bearing that out. Biden has the combination of foreign policy experience the ticket desperately needs, since it seems McLame is rising in the polls on people's comfort with his "security" stance. Strangely McLame's response to the Russia-Georgia tiff seems to given him a boost in the polls, even though his whole foreign policy is based on identifying enemies rather than opportunities. (I prefer diplomacy to knee-jerk reactionism.)
> Biden can be the 'attack dog' that the Democratic campaign will need to go against the Republicans in the next two months. He's better at delivering a fighting message than Obama is.
> Not surprisingly, the Republicans are already seizing on Biden's 2007 interview with ABC News where he (while an opponent of Obama) questioned his readiness to be president. This is a lame tactic by the Republicans, because any thinking voter would know that Biden would likely not accept the VP nomination from Obama if he thought he was unqualified.
> Obama should get a bump in the polls after his Thursday night acceptance speech at the stadium in Denver. I expect his speech to set the tone for the remainder of this year's campaign.

here's a youtube video of the conclusion of knorr's public talk at the 1958 intl convention combined yankee stadium & polo grounds.
you know, the dc that good jws are supposed to get all tingly about when you mention that 1/4 million of them were in the same place.
the whole thing is non-remarkable, standard, "ain't the new order gonna be great" drivel.. turn the sound down.
Yikes. That part at 3:22 is creepy, talking about how "unswerving devotion to God and his Kingdom will be rewarded...." , meaning obey the Wack-tower Society.
My parents were at this convention, about 2 years before I was born.

Hi Missus --
Yes there'll be some folks meeting up Saturday September 6 at 5pm.
Sign up or read about it here: http://exjw.meetup.com/132/
if joining other boards, will you stay same?.
how will we know who you are from this universe?.
I will keep my name and avatar. So far I'm registered on the Yuku board. I am awaiting acceptance on the JWS board (what's taking so long?).
I am not active on any other discussion boards as 'Gopher' except the one for Game Show Network.
do you think it is a good thing or a bad thing?.
will it solve the world's problems?.
do you believe it can happen?.
There are too many cultural divisions. If you could theoretically have an official world religion, you'd still have so many interpretations that nothing would be 'improved' over the current situation.
There is no magic bullet to solve the world's problems. However, "Zero world religions" would be a major step in the right direction. Spirituality needn't be a group affair. Beliefs and philosophies need not be regulated or dictated by some governing body or guru.
