I think the main reason the WTS tries to steer its sheep clear of higher education is that it helps impart critical thinking. Such education helps you dissect matters and view them from all different angles, whereas the WTS doesn't want you to do any such "independent" thinking. They want you instead to engage only in "dependent" thinking, i.e. dependent on THEM.
The stuff about sex and drugs is just a red herring because that kind of conduct can be forgiven by the organization. But the organization cannot forgive independent thinking.

Sex and drugs in university
by Xanthippe inso this jw friend that got in touch out of the blue a few months ago after 24 years of shunning us agrees that the borg is not keen on university.
it is so difficult to keep to your principles because of all the immorality there according to her.
yes same old story we have been hearing for years.. if that is the case they should be fine with distance learning.

The current purpose of the JW Corporation
by cptkirk ini think it can simply be summed up as this: to prop up as many sociopaths as possible.
the great irony being that the core principle of christianity was supposed to be empathy, and the core symptom of someone suffering from sociopathy is the inability to even comprehend the word empathy.
we've got the beast preaching brotherly love, and the church preaching burn thy neighbor lol, wtf???

It seems that the purpose of almost any large corporation these days is self-preservation at all costs. Often it takes psycopaths at the top to relentlessly carry out that mission.

Thanks for the link, MS. It's interesting how religious leaders seem to always draw attention to THEMSELVES and THEIR TIME as the special ones. JW leaders aren't the only ones who make such claims.

MS, that change about the FDS doesn't surprise me a lot as the WT hierarchy does really want to direct attention to itself as some sort of intermediary between people and God. When I was a younger and a JW, I always thought the mystical FDS being all the anointed somehow didn't make sense since the GB itself speaks for the organization and positions itself as the channel.
I'm not religious now, so I won't be a lot of help about the true meaning of Christianity. But I would think that it would be following the example of Christ in terms of love of neighbor and being conscientious to the extent possible. I don't think it would necessarily be following an organization - remember Psalms 146:3, 4 about not putting your trust in man to whom no salvation belongs. -

Hello MS. You don't need to be apostate to post here. All are welcome. The founder of this site was an active JW with questions when he started this board to discuss those questions with other JW's.
It's really good to have questions. In fact, it's better to have questions you cannot answer than it is to have answers you cannot question.
I wasn't around this board much in 2012, so please remind me what is the new understanding or new light that came out in October? -

Faith with out FEARS is dead....
by Fed-up inisn't that the way the scripture goes?
it's more accurate, i think.. one of the comments on one of the threads (sorry, i'd give due credit, but can't find it again) mentions someone finally being able to size up jw's as one would any other religion.
indeed, he that is under fear has not been made perfect in love.

Sin and transgression are also religious constructs [even outside the world of the Watchtower] with a relationship to fear - in that if we don't somehow take care of what a religion describes as sin and transgression, in the manner prescribed by said religion, we are doomed for eternity.

What was the best KISS you ever experienced?
by Terry inthe phone rang in the art gallery and i answered.. the voice was a young woman's.. one of her two parrots had died rather suddenly.. she wanted a colorful frame for the memorial portrait.
could we accomodate her?.
the remaining bird was sulking.. i suggested parrots without partners.. i don't where my tasteless jokes come from.

Actually, I have a hard time saying "Jehovah" any more. Or as some of my former colleagues from down south pronounced it: Jehover.
