"If the brothers are good enough for Jehovah, they're good enough for me."
Except that's not what you're really taught when in the JW's. You're taught you aren't ever doing enough.
So this poem is pure propaganda and/or wishful thinking. For some reason, it feels to me that a woman wrote it. Maybe she finally found some guy who would marry her, leading to her change in viewpoint. Sometimes your worldview temporarily changes and "everything is right" (even an awful cult you're in) during the early blush of love.

YouTube... the best place to awaken JWs
by Calebs Airplane init's clear that dubs in general eventually forget to heed the counsel of the wt as regards viewing spiritually "dangerous" material on the internet.
this is evident by the thousands of uploaded videos of assemblies, conventions, caleb videos, kh weddings, kingdom melodies, etc.
that can be found on youtube and other similar sites.

CA,
You're right - quite a few JW's take advantage of the Internet's anonymous nature to interact with non-JW's on YouTube. A few will be reasonable, and a few will be very immature and mean.
I have posted quite a bit there to correct misconceptions and to spread TTATT. I don't like stupid pro-JW propaganda on there to go unchallenged. -

Stillin, you asked: "Speaking of which, how do I find those hilarious cartoon videos that some kid made of various meetings, the Memorial, field service?"
Just type "Kingdomhallofjws" into the search bar. That's the channel name where you'll find those. I like them too!!

So after the blow out between my old JW buddy and I, it's back to "normal"
by wha happened? ina friend of mine and i had a huge blow out about the jw religion.
he and i were friends before either one of us were jw's.
in fact, i took him to his first meeting.
-
Gopher
: he went into denial about the whole conversation, and just wants to keep the friendship.
Maybe that's a good place to leave it, if you're okay with it. Not every JW is as open-minded towards those who blow off their religion.Edited to add: We know that somewhere inside every JW resides both the JW-robot personality and the human side. The JW-robot can get triggered at almost any time, but if we steer clear of that crazy belief stuff, their human side may remain comfortable in dealing with people who disbelieve what they believe.

ambition is not a dirty word
by snare&racket ini can't decide if it is based on jealousy, class or the watchtower.
that shameful cult turned the word ambition into a dirty word.
it made the idea of self reliance and self worth a tainted thing.

am·bi·tion
/ æm'b??
?n / Show Spelled [ am- bish - uh
n ] Show IPA noun 1. an earnest desire for some type of achievement or distinction, as power, honor, fame, or wealth, and the willingness to strive for its attainment: Too much ambition caused him to be disliked by his colleagues. 2. the object , state, or result desired or sought after: The crown was his ambition. 3. desire for work or activity; energy: I awoke feeling tired and utterly lacking in ambition. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- By the above definition ambition has positive descriptions like earnestness and willingness, even a "desire for work". It's true that some people with ambition step on others and push their weight around, and in that sense it could be negative.
In the way the Watchtower uses it, doing almost anything for yourself that doesn't ultimately contribute to the organization's welfare comes under the heading of ambition.
However if ambition causes you to reach out for privileges in service to THEIR organization, then they laud that kind of ambition. Anyone who is honest will admit there is social climbing, politicking and ambition which leads to honor amongst the JW's. -

I kind of envy Christians
by stillin in"faith is not a possession of all people.
" that's what the scripture says.
i guess i'm one of those people.

Christians should envy non-believers, who have choices about what meaning they want their life to have rather than being told what the meaning must be. Christians are de-meaned and demeaned.

If man evolved?
by tornapart ini know anyone who believes in evolution is going to say that there is no 'if' about it.
however.... if man evolved over hundreds of thousands of years ago, why were there only about 200-300 million people alive 2,000 years ago?
surely there'd have been many billions by then?.

:Maybe what is going on is most in the scientific community know their dating methods are bogus, that the theory of evolution is nonsense, but are trapped in a system wherein they need to promote a sort of orthodoxy in order to get paid.
I couldn't disagree more. Peer review of all scientific studies ensures a healthy and vigorous debate. This is quite unlike anything that occurs in the JW's or any other religion.
Scientists need to do their job to get paid. That job includes performing verifiable research and to share in reviewing what others have put forth. It is not a bunch of people nodding their heads and adhering to a script or textbook. It isn't religion. Science has built on things they thought earlier and re-tested and re-examined everything. The best scientific explanation at which they arrive is called a "theory". Theories are not just postulations or guesses, but are the result of rigorous scientific review and even debate. -

There are *good* people out there! Yes -gasp!- in the "world"!!
by Muddy Waters init is still a wonderful discovery and pleasant surprise to continually keep finding that there are some awesomely *good* people out there in the "world"!.
it's such a neat thing, this (slow, yet very rewarding!

Hi Muddy Waters:
I enjoyed your post!
It's better to have a small handful of those kind of friends who will accept and love you as you are, than hundreds who are all about the impression they're making on you. We've often said here that it's hard to have real friendships among the JW's because it is so conditional and could change at any minute (if you or a friend took the WT teachings seriously).
For a whle after I first got out of the J-dubs, I was partly disabled due to spinal arthritis. I found complete strangers were holding doors open for me, offering to carry things, or whatever they could do to help. I was thinking -- wow, how different than the picture the WTS painted of people on the "outside" -- everyone was supposed to be selfish or possibly evil. I found a general goodness in people -- not 100% to be sure, but most folks are just trying to get along and many will offer to help you do the same. -

Hi BobFlanagan:
"as a non-American can someone explain what's so bad about Barack Obama wanting to improve healthcare provisions in the USA?"
The opponents of the Affordable Care Act believe the changes will hurt businesses somehow, and they are convinced it takes away freedom of choice. They feel it is a government intrusion (some even going as far to call this a "government takeover") and close to what they call the "socialist" systems in Canada, England and the rest of the industrialized world. (We in America heard some scare stories about long waits and rationed care in such countries - whether those claims are true or not is quite controversial.) The "brave" comment is in response to actual uncertainty about how the implementation in 2014 will affect businesses and individuals. Change is scary.
And comparing Barack Obama to Osama Bin Laden makes you sound stupid, maybe get some perspective?
Some of the more outspoken opponents have formed all sorts of theories about Barack Obama -- that he hates America, that he is Muslim not Christian, that he wasn't born in the USA as is required of a president, that he is secretly or openly trying to ruin this country. None of these is true, but they do come from the losing side who hasn't accepted that the majority of Americans actually like their president.

Check this out!!!
by likeabird inwe all know how the wt likes to go on about how the church would prevent the common person from reading the bible, wanting to keep everyone in the dark, well, they seem to have conveniently missed out a good part of history in the process.. .
notice how what this book on the history of literacy campaigns says on church involvement in encouraging people to read the bible seems to have been completely overlooked in wt publications:.
in the case of sweden, a church law of 1686 required children, farm hands, and maid servants to learn to read and see with their own eyes what god bids and commands in his word.

The WTS may have a point regarding the Catholic church, which in much of its history tried to keep the Bible in Latin and the knowledge of it confined to its priests.
The Swedish church you're pointing to is probably Protestant. And you're right, the JW's aren't the only ones who have encouraged their members to read the Bible.
These days Bible illiteracy among churchgoers is quite widespread. Churches haven't discouraged them, people are just too busy with other things. For many Christians these days, the Bible is like one of those Internet "terms of service" agreements which you quickly skim, go down to the bottom and check the "accept" box without much thought.
