I totally know how you feel. It runs so deep. For me it's like growing up in that religion has turned me against all religions. My biggest issue with religion at this point and this is not a serious issue for most but I find every single religion all everyone does is sit around and criticize others. It's like whever I go whoever I talk to people are putting others down constantly. If I talk to a JW then I'm bad if I talk to someone who isn't and tell them how I grew up then it's negative also. It's like I can't escape the negativity so I shut myself of from almost everyone. My hubby is awesome though. I don't know what I would do without him. How do you find a psychiatrist who deals with this kind of thing?

would a jw wife be advised to divorce her disfellowshipped convicted hub
by looloo inif he has been convicted of child abuse and doing a prison sentence , would she tell any newly interested ones where her husband was?
or would elders tell her to say he was"working away" or to avoid answering so as not to "stumble" new ones ?
she is supporting him as far as i know .

I just wanted to add that I am appalled that someone going to prison for child abuse only gets a public reproof.

OK here is the link to the book with a girls personal experience of Scientology. You just go in and read each chapter. Each chapter has a link 1-14. They also do the disfellowshipping thing. I can't rememeber if they call it that but it's the same type of thing but in this book it's way worse then what JW's do. More like physical abuse.

I read a book online once about scientology. Talk about scary stuff. I wanted to post on this thread so I could save it in my former posts and I'm going to try to get ahold of the book again. It's pretty long reading about someone's personal experience with the religion. I hope I can find it again. My brother sent me the link to the online book it's free by the way. But seriously makes the JW's look like kittens.

Moments at the District Assembly You'll Never Forget...
by integ ini'll never forget the assembly in madison, wi.
where some poor sap had to tell everyone that he had become addicted to porno on the net, but through much prayerful contemplation and after confessing to the elders he was able to come to "grips" with it.. good luck to that guy with ever getting a fine sister to marry him.. poor guy.
i really felt sorry for him.

I was at an assembly where they had it set up in a huge gym with bleachers. What's that all about for one thing? A two day event where you have to sit in bleachers. It was painful as a child/teenager I can't imagine my body now after back surgery there would be no way I'd spend a day sitting on bleachers.
Anyways I was a teenager and it was at the end of the last day the last prayer of the day and I put my head down and lost my balance and fell out into the isle. I heard laughing. Then about an hour later I was walking out of the place and some little kids pointed at me and said that's the girl that fell. Oh such fun memories...lol.

Do you shun Jw's now?
by AK - Jeff ini have gone thru phases with this.
i sometimes have forced jw's who shun me to speak, or be embarrassed if they don't.
then i let up on that as the hurting lessened over time.

I know how you feel. For about 10 years I didn't run into any JW's at all which I thought was odd since I live in the same area I grew up in. But just the last year about I started running into get this my ex mother in law JW and then my brother who is an elder and even stranger at the same store Rainbow foods grocery store. I totally shunned them and pretty much stuck my nose in the air. Things have gotten back to me about what they say about me and it's not nice at all even after a decade.
My brother the elder I had run into at a DMV actually a couple years back and he said hi to me which was awkward but then after that there was a huge family thing for my Grandpa and Grandma. There have been a couple of these things and the first one I was told about and also was told I could not come and then I found out about another one and threw a huge fit pretty much and was going to go no matter what. It wasn't even a JW thing the only JWs that were going to be there were my immediate family. Well my brother the elder said he wasn't coming because I was going to go so hense the shunning of him at the grocery store.

jw's view of dress code for women
by megaflower inthe dress code that the society imposes on the women has been a thorn in my side ( manner of speaking).
theses old men dictate how a women should dress and i do mean "a dress".
i can remember when i lived in connecticut and the temp would be in single digits and when it came time for field service you must put on that dress.

I totally agree with the going out in service and having to wear a skirt in zero degree temperature is just insane really. I remember doing that when I was a teenager.
I do agree that there should be some kind of respect when going to church/Kingdom Hall when it comes to what you wear. I don't think it should be dictated however but I have gone with my husband to his daughters/my step daughters church events on occasion and have seen people wearing t-shirts and jeans and thought that was disrespectful. Maybe it's the way I was raised but I also have been in the workforce for many years and dressing too casual is not respectful there either. But really the skirts and dresses are really above and beyond really. I only wear one if I am going to a wedding.

Next time a JW knocks at your door.....
by yknot inwhy not accept the offer to study two jw books, in return that the caller study the franz books?
it would be fairly easy to set up a study schedule and questions.. what is the worse that could happen?
someone desparate enough for a study to agree or the caller getting back in the car and marking your house with a big fat red a on the territory map.. thank you for considering my moment of apostate evilness.. y.

That happened to my mom a couple times back when I was a teenager and we were out in service. Not that particular book but they wanted her to study there literature. She was not happy about that offer and there was no study. They are not even allowed to look at other religious books. That's what my mom always said to me anyway.
