  2007- Witness Meetings= Why can't women wear pants/trousers??

  when my mum went to her first meeting she was dressed to perfection, she wore nice ladies dress trouser/pants.

  the witness stuying with her told her it was "not apropriate" to wear this to the meeting...in 2006 i was in a congregation where a sister would put a skirt on over her pants she wore to work.

  it looked weird, but the pants ban still is in force 2007.

  Gordy, which part of the scripture talks about the rule being applied only to meetings, assemblies etc.?

  It wasn't applied just to meetings etc. It was applied all the time. Female JW's were not supposed to wear pants, jeans etc at anytime.

  I recall one sister who told us, when at home would wear pants to do the house work in. But if another JW called she would change into a skirt, or if she had to go out shopping.

  A pioneer sister in winter would wear pants to keep warm, under a long skirt.

  A couple of sisters tried wearing Culottes ( a form of baggy pants that looked like skirt if you didn't look closely) to meetings. But they got "counselled" on them.

  Its seems that no one picked up on the scripture which was as I recall for the reason why pants on a woman were not allowed.

  "No garb of an able-bodied man should be put upon a woman,neither should an able-bodied man wear the mantle of a woman; for anyone doing these things is something destestable to Jehovah your God." Deut 22:5 NWT

  New Light.... Does a new questions from readers Trump and old one????

  how does all of this work.

  i read a 74 watchtower that says you can talk to your dfed relatives and its your decision.

  yet i hear that the current understanding is you cannot.. can i bring up an old article to my mother about talking to me or does a new one trump the old??

  the wts would want us to move on, shut up, be powerless as they control its people to not listen to us.

  well, 'radio free europe' worked with time against the ussr (and actually ussr destroyed itself as it only drastically hurt their own people).

  A remark I have made a lot. It is their worst nightmare.

  Information about the WT pours our each day.

  Whether it be from our own experiences, which years ago we would have lived with silently. To exposing false teachings, false prophecies, flip-flop doctrine, exposing the mind-control of members. Also no longer can those who do wrong hide, pedophiles are being exposed, who at one tome would be able to carry on their evil. The media, TV, newspapers now report such happenings becuase they have been uncovered.

  When I became a JW 36 years ago there was only 2-3 books I could find on them and they didn't telll much. Now there are dozens telling people about the WT and how to deal with their teachings. Many more written by those who have sufered under the WT.

  If only all this had been ther e 36 years ago...I wouldn't have become a JW ever.

  That could become a good motto for us all.

  For thats what the WT wants of us to quietly go away and never be heard.

  i have started this thread so that every time i see a new one i can point out how old that idea is.

  congratulations.

  it's great that you have obviously been able to get out without being harmed in some way - really, i'm happy for you.

  Agree with you totally.

  I have had many a non-JW say to me "Just forget about it and move on"

  How do you forget nearly 30 years of your life?

  How do you forget that you have a wife and two daughters who will never speak or see you again.

  How do you forget that your family was broken up by JW teachings?

  How do you forget many "friends" who just dumped you overnight?

  I've also had exJW's saythe same thing to me. But usually these are ones who either have no family etc to worry about leaving behind. Or that they were lucky that their family came out of the WT with them.

  Yes there have been times when I thought "Thats it no more WT/JW stuff . No more JWd and other forums. No more research and keeping up-to-date on what the WT are doing.

  But then I will get a mail saying "Saw your testimony on a website. Can you help me. I'm going through similar "

  In fact I've had three this past week. Do I saw "Sorry, no longer do that. You're on your own."

  If I can open the eyes and mind of one JW and they leave or stop someone becoming a JW.

  Then its worth it.

  did you simply start attending some other church right away?

  if so, how did you choose which church to attend?

  I've always said I left a man-made organisation not God.

  After leaving I tried a couple of small "churches" who met in halls they hired.

  At one of these I accepted Christ into my life and became a Christian.

  Then I was led to go to a Pentecostal church. Strangely it was one I always wanted to know more about when I was a JW.

  The Pastor has always said that relgion has done the most damage to the Christian faith.

  You are there to worship Christ not some church or organisation.
