Well its interesting, but we need some other source of information to be sure.

I looked at that "e-JW" forum.

Remember 1989 when Indiana Jones said "JEHOVAH" was it a big deal in your Cong?

i was at high school 1989 telling everyone....."yeah, harrison ford in "the last crusade"....he says jehovah!

" even though the movie really was not reccomended for die hard witnesses...anyone else remember?

It was the same with anything were someone said "Jehovah" whether films, TV, radio, etc.

It was like "Did you see/hear so-and so they said "Jehovah" (said with awe)

The JWs always liked to give the impression that they are the only ones who use "Jehovah" as if it had been hidden for centuries.

That when telling some non-JW its as if they are revealing some great secret password.

I knew it, when I was about 5 yrs old , from hymns in church, later during Religious Education lessons at school, years before I became a JW.

I still hear it now and then at the church I attend.

I wouldn't be surprised that more non-JWs, than JWs, know "Jehovah" is Gods name.

"in order to avoid misunderstandings, jehovahs witnesses try to be careful about how they express themselves.

instead of saying, "the society teaches," many witnesses prefer to use such expressions as, "the bible says" or, "i understand the bible to teach.

In other words - "The Bible says,what the Society says, the Bible says"

Has being a JW effected your ability to make or keep friends?

michael jackson has been quoted as having no friends.

some here would like to blame his jw upbringing.. being a exjw, do you have trouble making and/or keeping friends?.

Something I have thought about myself over the years. I left the JWs in 2001, after 30 years, when I DA'd, in that time I have noticed that I do have trouble relating to people. I'm not a recluse or anything Ilike going out for a drink etc, I attend a church full of friendly people. If I go out for a drink in the local pub, I rarely strike up a conversation or if others speak to me I feel ill at ease. Almost as if there is some barrier between them and me. Because of this I basically have no friends, male or female, in the sense that I can say "Do you want to meet-up and go out." Because of this I have often thought is it because of my 30 years as a JW from the age of 20 to 50. In that time the ONLY people I and my family associated with were JWs. Those years centred around being a JW. Which I suppose eventually led to my breakdown etc. Which also hasn't helped in meeting people. Fortunately, if it wasn't for those children of mine that followed me out of the JWs and the ones who did not become JWs, three who live with me. I would probably would be a bit of a recluse.

Yes it is one of those things, especially those of us who had been JWs for most of our lives. You do think how much of an impact did it have on us. It is not the being able to do things that as JW we couldn't do. But its the unseen things that we carry around in our heads that have the bigger effect.

Speaking as a English football supporter.

I think that the USA played exceptionally well.

Considering that Spain had some of the worlds top players.

THe USA defending was good.

I think that the USA are starting to learn what the game is about and the skill required.

My JW daughter getting married June 6th

tomorrow, or when ever you read this, june 6th, my jw daughter gets married.

i have thought about it since hearing she was getting married.

but i somehow cannot bring myself to go.

As you say the dictates of a group of men in Brooklyn break up families.
Yet they call it "loving" ??

I could never get my head round the fact that their idea to help a family, is to break it up.
To create animosity between people, to alienate family members from each other and call it "loving".

Then they wonder why people will not return to them and then blame it on that person.

It will backfire on them one day.

We all hope that those who are still JWs will one day "see the light"

My JW daughter getting married June 6th

tomorrow, or when ever you read this, june 6th, my jw daughter gets married.

i have thought about it since hearing she was getting married.

but i somehow cannot bring myself to go.

Just a couple of points that my non-JW children, two sons 21 and 29, who did go have told me.
No one hardly spoke to them either.

The wedding basically went ok.
My sons said that when the groom gave his speech he sort of skirted round the fact that the brides father was not there.
I was surprised when they told me who the "best man" was, a guy who I last heard of 2-3 years ago who had been disfellowshipped.
Must have been reinstated.

Also learnt that a guy who I had known for years as a JW and when I left was an Elder.
One who you would think would always be a JW.
The last I heard a year ago he still was, anyway it seems that he has left the JWs.
I wondered if this was because his brother who was an Elder in another congregation left the JWs, sometime ago, over the paedophile issue.
Plus a couple of others who were close to him have left also.

Anyway its all over now just have to see what happens in the future

Thanks to you all for your kind words and concern.

Only those of us who have been JWs can really get their heads round this and the way they behave.

I did send a card today, one of my children who was going took it for me.

I wrote in it , that the only thing that I could send was something that I always had for her, and thats my love.
