did anyone ever come across the idea that meeting attendances were an indication of how much spirit jehovah was giving or witholding from the congregation?.
..and that this was directly related to whether or not there was any secret wrondoing within the congregation that was "blocking the spirit" and thereby restricting the "increase"?.
just a couple of instances:.
Was it just for fornication that Jehovah withdrew his spirit?
What about those brothers who were being dishonest in buisness, committing fraud, stealing etc.?
What about those who were peadophiles for years protected by Elders?
What about those who were alcoholics?
What about those who beat their wives?
What about those who lie on there reports?
If it was for any of the above then there were some congregations that around here who should never be growing.
many here will know that greg stafford is an independent jw apologist.
he has defended watchtower doctrine, written a number of books and publicly debated rob bowman (also soon to publicly debate james white).
this has confused a lot of people as jws are discouraged from public debate.
Many here will know that Greg Stafford is an independent JW apologist. He has defended Watchtower doctrine, written a number of books and publicly debated Rob Bowman (also soon to publicly debate James White). This has confused a lot of people as JWs are discouraged from public debate. Also, one of his recent books has been very controversial (Three Dissertations) as it questions some JW teachings (blood, legalism, hours done on ministry, prophecy, etc). Many have speculated why he hasn't been disfellowshipped. With that said, I read this on another board I am on at the moment:
A couple of days ago I finally received the Stafford vs. Bowman debate on DVD (had ordered it well over a month ago!).
The debate topic was "Is Jesus God?", and the debate was held 5-2-03. I ordered the DVD version due to the fact that it also included a 30 minute interview with Greg after the debate....The post-debate interview was interesting. It seems that Greg has unofficially left the WTB&TS and he indicated that a meeting with his local elders was scheduled. Since this was 5 months ago, I was wondering if anyone knows Greg's current status?
Greg's site: www.elihubooks.com!-/Text-!>
a jw asked me it was known which was the " text of the year " of 2004!!
.
do long knows?
I have just read a posting on a JW group.
The person had been to an assembly and Bro.Barr of the GB stated the yeartext for 2004 will be Matt 24:42
"Keep on the watch, therefore, because you do not on what day your Lord is coming."
i have been away from jws for 20 years, after having grown up as one, a pioneer and ministerial servant.
i have rebuilt my life, am very happy and have a wife and three kids who never were part of jw.
i have moved back into the town i grew up in.
Call at my door!!
They were in my road on a Sunday afternoon, about a 4 months ago. I watched them through the window as they worked the opposite side from me. There was 4 of them working along the row of houses. Out of a row of 30 houses they must have spoken to 5 people. Anyway I was hoping they would call on me. They came to the end of the row and stood opposite my house. Doing there usually "pat on the back" routijne for being good little JW's. They must have been trying to decide whether to do my side of the road. They kept looking across. Then they must have spotted me watching them, they went into a huddle. So I went and opened front door, you would have thought I was letting a tiger out they suddenly just turned and scattered. So I just called out "Hello" using their names. I haven't seen any since then.
has anyones jw friends or family ever spotted anyone on here who shouldnt be and reported you or confronted you?
how did they work out it was you?
how did you take it, and if you were in good standing at the time, what counsel did you receive?
JW's do look at this site.
Well with my name and the area I live in no JW who lives round here shouldn't have trouble guessing who I am.
An old JW friend of mine who moved away from the area, got in touch with me, secretly, after seeing my testimony on here. He was an Elder at the time, but now resigned after a peadophile issue came up.
I also know of other JW's who do look at this and other forums. There are a couple of JW's who take part in debates on the Reachout Trust forum.
I wouldn't be surprised that any JW who has a computer has not at sometime looked at such sites as this. They probably do it in secret, waiting till their JW wife/husband is asleep. I know of one who does it when at work on his office computer.
No wonder the WT get their knickers in a twist over the Internet.
jw's, are as a rule, self-righteous pharisees.
they were the first to "report" you if they believed that you did something not up to standards.
even if you started "thinking" a certain way that might be considered "worldly", you might be talked to by 2 elders to "readjust you in a spirit of mildness.
Don't know about a "spirit of mildness" certainly one elder used the "spirit of whiskey" !!
at this point in my life i don't think i could trust any religious group.
i don't even feel the need to be a part of anything like that right now, and maybe never will.. but i know of some who have joined other churches/groups since leaving the borg.. why do some join another religion and why won't some ever get involved again?.
what makes us so different?.
Having read all the posts on this section. It seems to me why the hell do most of us post on here.
Those who have come out of the JW's have either
1) turn from religion completly. But still write extensively about it.
2) return to what they were before they became JW's. Then complain about it.
3) turn against the Bible, after spending what can have been many years believing it. Its not the WT's fault but the Bible's attitude. So everything in the Bible is now wrong, or fairy stories. Trying to prove everything about the Bible wrong from the Genesis to Revelation. Often written by JW's who have been very hurt by the WT.
4) Becoming self-righteous. The "I know I am right and everyone else is wrong" attitude, whether they have a religion or not. A left over symptom of being a JW??
5) Join another religion anything from Buddhism to Born-again Christian. Because they still feel the need to believe in something, anything!!
I suppose I belong in some way to No.5. I have always had the need to believe in God from a young age. The Bible had always fascinated me. One of the reasons I became a JW. Now come to realise that my faith depends on me not on some organisation. Thats the problem with many I think. We look at the organisation, church or whatever and not at ourselves. I've learnt since becoming a Christian that it all depends on me not the church I now go to, or the Pastor. It all comes down to me alone. I stand not on being the member of some church, but on my belief in Christ. That is how I feel anyway.
Incidently, we have had another ex-JW join my church. He is in his late 20's. In fact I've known him since he was a baby. His whole family are JW's, father an Elder, brothers are Ministerial Servants, sister pioneer, I knew them all well. He left a couple of years ago because he saw the hypocrisy of what was going on in the Kingdom Hall. Since then he has been searching for somewhere or something. Read many books on other faiths etc. Came to a tent mission the church was holding locally in a park. Where he acceptted Christ in his life.

After 30 years as a JW, I left in August 1999. After learning the truth about the WT and spending 2 years checking it all out. Even though it meant being cut off from my wife and daughters.
In March 2000 I became a Christian and now attend a Pentecostal church. There has never been any pressure on me to accept what they say as being the "truth" etc. The only advice I received was to read the Bible and ask God to guide me. You can discuss and question and no one says that you have to believe what they say. I've seen the Pastor admit he had said something wrong in a sermon the week before and had made mistakes in dealing with some things. There is a sense of freedom that I never found in a Kingdom Hall. No one jumps on you if you didn't attend a meeting.
The love and support I have had has been tremendous. I have seen genuine Christian love in action towards not only those who attend the church but also to those outside. I have learnt what the real Christian teachings are as opposed to what the WT told me they are.
My son (then 25) followed me 6 months later. The change in him has been tremendous. Before as a JW he rarely spoke about his "faith" as a JW outside the Kingdom Hall. Now I can't shut him up he takes every advantage to speak about God and Christ. Now we both disect the Pastors talks, when as JW's we were glad to get out the KH as soon as possible after a meeting. We attend a house group were about 10 of us discuss the Bible, no other book used. Discussing scriptures what do they mean, how can they help us etc. no one reading paragraphs from some book.
Having said that my son and T, both having been JW's for so long are suspicous of peoples motives and seem to have developed an inbuilt sense when someone is gong along the same lines as the WT. When they start saying "I" want you to believe this because "I" say its true. When they start making rules etc. based on what they say is right. We've met a few like that.
All in all I would say that since becoming a Christian I have been happier spiritually, than I was as a JW.
i saw my uncle sell their house..... only later to feel and look like idiots.
i remember all the buzz about the end coming around my own house.
since i was a naturally inqusitive child (the question why is not good for theocratic advancement) i was made to feel stupid for questioning, even at 7 and 8 years old.
I was first contacted by the JW's in March 1971, baptised January 1972. I was 20 years old.
Throughout the "study" I had in the "Truth Book" 1975 wasn't mentioned. When we did the "Freedom Everlasting" book the "elder" who took my study pointed out the 6000 yrs of man etc. There didn't seem to be any particular emphasis from other JW's about 1975 in the congregation I attended at that time. I think we had a couple of "elders" at the time who had been through such a thing before, one had been a JW since 1920's . But you could sense an underlying feeling that they hoped something would happen..
There was a TV program about the JW's that year. Mainly because a well known footballer Peter Knowles had become a JW and had given up playing. The program did mention that the JW's thought that Armageddon would come in 1975. Think it was the only TV program I had known about JW's until recently.
In 1974 there was a flurry of weddings at the Kingdom Hall, about 12 that year, mine was one of them. My wife and I had our first child in October 1975, he is 28 this weekend. Also remember that no one bought a house until after 1976.
