are elders instructed to contact a jw who has written a letter of da before they make the announcement to the congregation?
i mean, even a phone call to persuade them not to take that course of action?
the reason i ask is my father told me that no one contacted him in any way when he mailed his da letter to the elders.
I attended my last JW meeting in August 1999. . No letter, no phone call. It was September 2001 before any Elder called on me, I was out at the time. Then it was only part of their campaign to get "inactive" ones back, as there numbers were dropping. That made me decide to DA . I wrote to them saying that I had not heard from them for 2 years and now the only reason they turn up to see me is just to get me back to make the numbers up. The fact that for 2 years they showed no concern for my welfare shows how they view there members, just as numbers.
You know what really made it worse is that the Elder who called to see me, and who was my book study leader, lived just a 5 minute walk away from me up the road. Also another elder lived just a little bit further and 2 Min. Servants lived close by. And none of them could in 2 years find time to walk down the road to see me. Should have expected it really, in the 3 years I was in that congregation, I only had 2 "shepherding" calls and that was to tell me to do more on the service
After I had sent my DA letter, I had no one contact me to try and make me change my mind. Mind up that could be to do with the fact that I also enclosed 20 pages of material showing the falseness of WT teachings, false prophecies etc, that may have put them off coming
i have worked that out b/c they r 6 million members, and they print 24 million wts.
If the WT print 24 million Watchtowers and there are 6m JW's, and they all have a personal copy. That leaves 18m WT's to place in service. But that only gives each JW 3 WT's to place.
I remember when I was Magazine Servant the amount of magazine that were never claimed by brothers/sisters. We had a stack of about 300 at one time, Elders never sure what to do with them. Then one day they disappeared.
Also you go into a JW's home and see how many magazines are there, old ones unplaced etc.
I know JW's when putting in the service report would put down they had placed 6 mags, when they hadn't placed any. I mean who was to know if they had or hadn't, but it looked good on the report. Not that I ever did such a thing
So when the WT say so many magazines had been placed in the year, is it a true figure??
i am chomping at the bit to go to see rotk!!
you won't be giving anything away, because i believe i have read the series upwards of 20 or more times over the years, but how was it?
thoughts?.
I went on the day of its release here in Britain, 17th.Dec.
I went at 11am on my own, then I took 3 of my children (24, 16, 13) in the evening at 7pm.
I've been at LOTR fan since I first read it when I was 15, probably read it about 40 times since then.
Peter Jackson has done great in portraying the story and the characters. Yes he had to cut a few things out. I think if he had followed the story faithfully he would be making LOTR part 20, some time in the future
But the basic essence of thestory he has kept and done a good job of it.
Probably be going to see it again and again and again etc.
Can't wait for the DVD now.
this past weekend a relative came over with these ultimate fighting dvds that he bought but he wouldn't sit down and watch city by the sea because it is rated r.
they can be so dense and hypocritical!
when i pointed out to him that his ultimate fighting dvds are un-rated but in my opinion it is far worse to watch people fighting for pure entertainment purposes than it is to see a rated r movie that teaches a great life lesson.
Always remember an Elder giving a talk on what kind of TV shows and not seeing 18 rated films (as R-rated films are called here). The following week he is telling me about this film he watched and enjoyed. It was not until later on I remembered that it was an 18 rated film. Hypocrite
Also I remember visiting an Elders home, the type of Elder who thought he was God's gift to the congregation, if you know what I mean. I was sitting in an armchair next to a cabinet that held quite a few videos, looking at them they were mostly the "family entertainment" type. The Elder had been called to the phone and as I was sitting there one of his children came in and wanted something from a cupboard that was below the video collection. The child got what he wanted but didn't close the cupboard door properly. It slowly swung open, I glanced down and saw more videos in there, thinking they were what he couldn't fit on the cabinet I open the door a bit more to see what he had, expecting more "Disney" stuff. In that cupboard must have been about 20, 18 rated films, a few of the violent type, but mostly sex films. I quietly closed the cupboard door and sat there with a smug smile on my face. From now on anything this Elder said to me could go out the window, because he was nothing more than a big hypocrite. I also used this knowledge sometime later.
remember those things, they'd hand out a board, a pencil, and this test booklet.
i mean, i loved those nights!
it actually gave me something to do.
I became a JW in 1971
Always found the "Written review" a bit laughable. They practically gave you the answers.
Given a board, pencil, test booklet ?? We just were given a four page sheet with the questions on.
They changed the format a couple of times over the 28 years i was a JW.
Never had to hand them in or anything.
Now an oral review I am told. Maybe they trying to save money by not having to print all those question sheets.
yeah, i'm a different thinker, floating between budhist and spiritualist ideas, and jw seems so rigid to me, i was quite shocked to read up on it.
unfortunately i have a question for you which i am dreading to ask, as i suspect the answer wont be one i wish to hear.. i have recently fallen for a girl, she is, well her parents are strictly jw as far as i understand, she follows this but has not been baptised yet.
i know she really likes me too, but i am not a witness, and i doubt i ever could be.
Hi Llama
I see you are from Merseyside.
So am I. Also ex -JW.
Whereabouts on Merseyside?
If you want to tell me you can send me a message. Privately on here.
Click on my name and go to "send message".
ok......................60,000 attended the convention at the olympic stadium and all the news reports here in oz say there were 500 baptised.
images on the news showing young and old getting dunked gave me the horrors.
i just couldn't help but wonder how many pedophiles and sexual abuse victims were there pretending to be righteouss and happy.
I see from the press report that the ages of those being baptised was 10 -70.
10 yrs old !! In my congregation you had to be at least 14 to be considered for baptism at one time and that was considered quite young.
I wonder how many youngs ones there were and were being baptised because of family pressure. Many of the young ones would be from JW families so you couldn't exactly call then "new" ones, as if they had been met on the door to door work.
i may have asked this question before awhile back but i was not able to find it in the search.
other than what the nwt provides for information.. how do the jw's provide proof for this no hell belief?
Where in the Bible does it say that Hell is a burning fiery place of torment?
my mother asked me a question yesterday regarding a comment she made to an elder about how the"slave" predicted 30 or 40 years ago that there would come a time when false religion would become so abhorrent that the governments and people would de-cloak the priests of their attire and would stop the celebrating of some holidays.
i recalled that statement being made.
i asked her what her point was.
Yes the Puritans of Cromwells time did ban Christmas.
I remember reading that the law was never repealed, so technically it's illegal to celebrate Christmas in Britain.
