Funerals and Disfellowshipped Individuals

not to "hijack" dogpatch's recent thread, but the experience he relayed in the above topic struck a nerve and i was curious for more input.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/188715/1/my-aunts-funeral-at-the-kingdom-hall.

if there is ever a time when a shred of human dignity and compassion is deserved, it is at a funeral.. i am appalled by the way disfellowshipped individuals are treated, but especially at witness funerals.. the flesh and blood relatives have the right to be there if they choose.

if you are a witness and you are offended by a disfellowshipped person attending, dont let the door hit you in the @$$ on the way out.

The luncheon following the services was at a large catering hall. He was in line to have some food, and a couple of elders FREAKED out. They started saying that anyone who was in attendance could lose their privileges if they remained at the luncheon since the DF'ed person was there. (Supposedly the CO verified this - I have a hard time believing it since I dont recall it in writing) Sadly, the father of the young man went up to him as he SAT DOWN with his meal next to his mourning grandmother and asked him to leave. The young man left naturally embarrased and pissed off.

The part of the above story that made me angry is that this is likely what motivated the brothers to act to usher the young man out. Not the supposed cleanliness of the congregation, and certainly not the feelings of the grieving young man, but fear of losing their own positions in the congregation. God forbid that they should in any way jeopardize their positions! Experiencing firsthand the effects of this mentality was the last straw for me as a JW.

What's the best thing about no longer being a JW?

Weekday evenings to spend any way I please. It has been nearly 4 years and I'm still amazed at having all these evenings to myself.

I took this to be in reference to ignoring the folks who habitually attempt to hijack threads. I have often hoped to find threads where these hijacking attempts could be ignored. In one recent thread this almost occurred, but then someone began answering and then it seemed everyone had to join in and the thread went to hell. I would really like to see a concerted effort to ignore these folks. There have been really good threads that have gone south and it would be so great if everyone could just ignore those folks and not be baited. Of course, if this is not what you were referring to, rebel8, I myself have hijacked a thread. Damn.

Do Black people do sunbathing?

I can only speak for myself. I used to sunbathe when I went on vacation somewhere tropical. I thought it was nice to be a different color (from light mocha to deep brown). When I was a child I used to spend lots of time in the sun and water without any sunblock and I never experienced any sunburn. However, more recently I have experienced sunburn even when using sunblock. Once I got very bad sunburn after spending an hour or so on the deck of a ship in South America without using sunblock, so I tend to avoid the sun as much as possible now.

Some JWs believe that when couples have had premarital improprieties and there are any subsequent problems in the marriage, God's spirit and blessing were never on the marriage because the premarital sins were never "handled." It may be that when your wife spoke with her sister the premarital issues came up as something that needed to be resolved in an effort to save your spirituality and the marriage. As others have said, this is a misguided attempt to straighten things that have nothing to do with your current feelings about the organization. They're so programmed to look inward for blame that she may feel guilty that her part in the premarital activities (and then failing to immediately confess to it) make her at least partly responsible for your attitude about the organization.

Your wife will have to come to terms with this in her own way and time. I hope things go well for you. I admire your strength.

Reject Worldly Fantasies, Pursue Kingdumb Realities?

according to the feb 2009 kingdumb misery, this is the title of the new hounder-hounder talks for public talks starting march 1. now, i can only imagine worldly fantasies include having a family, a reasonable measure of health and security, and being able to live a decent life.

kingdumb reality means throwing your life away out in field circus, attending boasting sessions, dutifully studying washtowel publications every tuesday all evening, and dying stagnant and having produced zero value in your own life.

Thanks Billy, I thought so. I'm almost embarassed to have remembered that title. It was back from my Bethel days, when I actually paid attention and read my magazines. Scary flashback.

according to the feb 2009 kingdumb misery, this is the title of the new hounder-hounder talks for public talks starting march 1. now, i can only imagine worldly fantasies include having a family, a reasonable measure of health and security, and being able to live a decent life.

kingdumb reality means throwing your life away out in field circus, attending boasting sessions, dutifully studying washtowel publications every tuesday all evening, and dying stagnant and having produced zero value in your own life.
