  Blood Issue - Could that mean bloodshed???

  if you look up the greek word for blood, it could mean actual "blood" or it could mean "bloodshed".

  the scriptures in acts are not quoted anywhere so nobody could really say for certain which meaning it actually has... .

  also, just before it in acts, it states to abstain "from things strangled".

  You almost had it pegged. Paul may have taken it that was at first but not years later when they threw it in his face because they meant keeping some Levitical Laws not just courtesy when they penned it. Paul then had to get rid of such thinking entirely and not just put up with it as he did for a long time.

  Its confusing cause they just referred to animals being strangled, then they go into the blood thing. I guess, if there's no surrounding context then it's assumed it means literal blood?

  Crackdown on "sisters" volunteering at DCs

  the wts has sent a letter to all convention overseers expressing their increasing concern at sisters "directing brothers" at district conventions.. with immediate effect (ie for dc 2008), sisters are no longer to be used as volunteers in parking and security / watchman departments.

  any sisters volunteering in other departments (eg toilet cleaning) must be subordinate & follow the direction of appointed brothers.

  this move will put a huge burden on the dcs in my area - nearly half the volunteers for parking are sisters and there aren't enough volunteers as it is.

  Later in Acts 15 though, James spoke about certain things Gentiles SHOULD refrain from, in order to keep peace with Jewish Christians -- one was to not eat meat of strangled animals. This was out of courtesy and respect for their consciences, and posed no burden.

  This makes a lot of sense. You explain it so easily!!! This makes a lot of sense and keeps the scriptures in harmony since Paul stated that you can eat mean sacrificed to idols unless it offends the conscious of your brother. And it was his conscious that was weak, not the brother who had no problem eating the meat sacrificed to idols...

  "New light"...

  this won't be a long-winded post; just a "quickie", and mostly meant for those still active:.

  i find it odd that jehovah's witnesses don't find anything odd about how 'new light' is distributed.

  i mean - if this new light comes from jehovah god himself, the creator of the universe and everything in it, wouldn't it be fair to say that it would happen more like in this story:.

  All I have to say is this:

  "Well, let's say that the FDS is God's spirit directed org. According to the 5/1/07 wt, that doesn't mean that they have any special insights that the Great Crowd doesn't have. So, that means I don;t have things wrong just because they state something different. Given this new light, there are a lot of things that I don't agree with. Also, I have to honestly answer to Jehovah for the decisions that I make and I feel that that is exactly what I am doing based on my knowledge and conscious according to what is written in the scriptures. I cannot let myself do something that I feel very strongly is wrong towards Jehovah due to peer pressure and you should never, ever make me feel otherwise."

  What the heck could he possibly say to that???

  Also, just before it in Acts, it states to abstain "from things strangled". If you look up "strangled" it was in reference to an "unbled animal". So, it wasn't the way the animal died that was important, it was the fact that it was unbled.

  So, why would Luke state to keep away from blood twice in a row? If blood meant blood, why would he bring up the strangled animals thing? It doesn't make any sense to me... To me, there is a strong possibility it meant bloodshed. At the very least, you could go either way on it which should make this a conscious matter...

  any thoughts? This might come up with some family members today because they know I have "questions".

  to the forum, please read even if its long...i want to thank you all.

  i remember when i first started posting here, almost one year ago...i had just written letters to evey jw i could find telling them what a bunch of bs the jws were.... most wanted to kill me, including my dad, who called me a fornicator, and called all my friends wanting to know what drug i was on.... i learned that jws will always try and find wrongs in the character who's showing the inconsistiancies, they never will listen to what you're saying just attack your character.

  but there have been a few that i've reached; some have even taken a stand with me.. i also learned that people have different circumstances, that i shouldn't judge those that don't take a stand.
