recent postmodern and anti-humanist thought that questions man's assertion that he is of central importance.
The recent definition of anti-humanism entails also a-religion. The fact that Job's God was there is definitely not postmodern.
the book of job has sometimes been read as an anti-humanist reply to the notion that the creator is a god who takes a personal interest in humanity.. job was stricken with illness and various trials.
his three "friends" suggested that he must have done something to offend god for these terrible tribulations to have befallen him.
job protested his innocence.

the course of this river has obviously been designed, it's avoiding every single tree on the riverbank!.
creationist: are you trying to tell me that all those plants know where the riverbank is?.
atheist: no one designed the river!
who designed the "natural processes"?
What has been designed: process or product?
When The Messiah was inagurated, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was at 8046.4199.
At this moment, as I write, it is at 6930.3999. That's an overall drop of 1116.02 points as of right now.
If you really think Obama is doing a good job, I think you have your chart upside down.
Stocks soar — Dow ends above 10,000 again
Upside down?

your opinion?.
How is preventing someone from displaying a cross in a public school (most pupils will be christian) neutral?
Any Italian remains free to wear whatever he wants, the crucifixes are only removed from the classrooms' walls.

your opinion?.
Because public schools are financed by the taxpayer, they should be neutral. Of course, parents are free to send their children to a private catholic school where the crucifix naturally can and will not be banned.
my family were all catholics.
i think i would've been one simply because i was raised in it and even if i didn't agree with everything, i would still be able to talk to my friends and family.. i would think i'd be a catholic in name only.
"religion" doesn't get me excited..
My grandparents were atheist, my parents JWs. Degeneration?

After skimming through the methodology used in the latest report, I don't think there's any reason to suppose the numbers are not accurate. I believe they show the opposite of what this thread is trying to prove. JWs are one of the few established christian churches that are not declining, they even picked up growth again after a small dip in the nineties.

I thought they're still growing in the US, even more after 2001 than before. It would be interesting to have more recent data.
yesterday's (18 october, 2009) wt lesson had a picture of milton & newton with a caption that said both men "knew" about the hope of living forever on earth.
(interesting it didn't say they "believed" it.
that's just a side point to this thread.).
Good point. Scientifically speaking, eternal life with a physical body on earth is a senseless idea.
i am glad we went to the meeting this morning.
it was about how jehovah's witnesses have always taught the paradise earth for most of obedient mankind.
it mentioned how early christian leaders such as origen and augustine introduced neo-platonic thought into early christianity and allowed ideas about an immortal soul to crowd out what the bible says about the earth.
Not necessarily. According to Aubrey de Grey the first thousand year old human has probably already been born. And if scientists and doctors can keep people alive for 1000 years, then who knows after that, maybe thousands more. So something approaching everlasting life may be within the grasp of this generation after all. What we do with that time and how we treat each other - and the earth - if we accomplish that feat is another matter of course. But maybe this is "Jehovah" telling us something: that we humans can manage to reach our goal of living forever on paradise earth if only we apply ourselves.
The birth of a new religion?
