I had no fear of looking. Felt though as there was a lot of hatin' for some reason and then I found out about the NGO and gave up everything WTBTS...

*** Your thoughts on Apostate Literature ***
by FlyingHighNow inwhen they'd warn us at every circuit assembly not to read apostate literature, remember how they'd tell us if we received it in the mail, to throw it away immediately?
what thoughts went through your mind?.
mine were: "i don't think i can throw it away.

Wow solace-
I'm not trying to jump on the Bandwagon here, but with over 372 post on this forum, I'm sure you've been exposed to enough info, stated references, both secular and watchtower to confirm 1975, along with the majority of the other claims, dates and doctrines.

How would the Society give up 1914?
by donny induring the 1930's when the society was quietly moving jesus' presence from 1874 to 1914, it only seemed to ruffle a few feathers and most accepted this "brighter light.
" how could the society abandon 1914 and still keep most of its followers?

As they always had, by not mentioning it anymore. Revising it's history and never to be brought up, losing any and all importance that it once had...

How do JW's arrive at 537BCE for the release of the jews by Cyrus?
by digderidoo infrom all of my research so far on the 607 issue the only argument that jw's have for it is the 70 year period counting backwards from 537bce.
as 539bce is the accepted date for cyrus conquering babylon, why do they say 537bce is the date he released the jews and not 538bce or 536bce for instance?.

Here's the actual formula:
heads or tails x rolling dice + eeny-meeny-miny-moe = 1914
Seriously, the only reason that 1914 has any significance it just happen to be the same year as the 1st world war. End time prophecies is a joke and has been around nearly 2 thousand years and with the major american movement starting in the 1800's. If you compile a list of every jack off claiming divine inspiration with their dates in the 1800's, you'll see that every decade contains at least several predictions of the 2nd coming.
With Russell, 1914 was to be the end. During his ministry in 1894, Russell claimed these were GOD'S DATES and could not be changed, even if he wanted to. 13 years later, losing confidence in his predicitons and fearing another failed end of the world/2nd coming prophecy, he stated that he never claimed to be infallible (I thought these were God's dates?). Then came and went 1914, and pretty much everyone knows rest of the story.

You're about 150 years too late.

E-Watchman and JW Reform
by insearchoftruth ini have read some very interesting and thought provoking articles on the subject sites.
having never been a jw, what is the feeling of a 'run of the mill' witness towards these sites sympathetic towards the general doctrines of the wts, but calling for some major reforms?.
-

Never heard of these sites or anyone that's a insider pushing for reform. The most I've heard while in was doubts on current rules and regs, everyone at the very least will question, but it doesn't go any further than that.

Being uncertain and/or imperfect is one thing, deliberately covering up and contradicting what is written to continue your ideas, morals and beliefs is an entirely different matter.
Hell, Miller apologized along with many others about the 1844 date, admitting to it's error. After the Great Disappointment, Joseph Cummings CLAIMED he received NEW LIGHT on the end time prophecies, pushing the date forward to 1854-55 of the 2nd coming.
Russell in the Zion's wt 7/15/1894 claimed there was no reason for changing dates, stating that the dates were "GOD'S DATES". But yet 13 years later Russells claims he NEVER said the dates to be infallible (huh?). (The Gentile Times Reconsidered-jonsson)
Progressive pattern? Didn't the JW go back to a 1927 doctrine regarding the term generation?
It's doesn't look all that bad? An organization with a history of lying and double speak coupled with failed predicitons, is pretty F'ed up from this point of veiw...

Big welcome!!!
I know exactly what you're talking about. Growing up as an elder's son and hearing from my father's mouth people's dirty laundrey to my mom (for some reason he would spill the beans to my mom in the car ride to/or from the KH), is something I will always remember. Never had any REAL trust in elders after witnessing that. They're human and imperfect, which goes to show you that they're not appointed by holy spirit.
It's a boys club really, something I naturally never blonged to. Feel free to post up any problems, I know it helps me...

You never know what may stroke a persons curiosity
by donny ini learned today that one can never know what may make a dedicated jw think.
i have a man working for me who is a pretty devout jw.
he knows i used to attend meetings and occasionaly tries to "rescue" me and i always throw him a few reasons as to why i quit and he just shrugs it off.
