Wow- I remember attending the assemblies in Hialiegh(sp?) park at the horse race track in miaimi, fl. It was hot, muggy and occasionally, some sections were covered in bird shit when we came back from lunch. I would enjoy the scenery though, with the flamigos passing by behind the stage during the the talks and sneaky off to walk around to check out the stables and enjoy park.

Old JW memories.
by nicolaou inwith all the talk about the book study recently i couldn't help recalling the old 'group' we used to go to from about 1970. i remember the smell of those books, the drone of the study conductor and the struggle - often in vain - to keep my eyes open.. i remember my old ministry briefcase and the kitchen of the sister where we used to meet for field service.
she was my best friends mum.
i can still feel the biting wind at twickenham conventions and the overheated, dehydrating stuffiness of bowes rd assembly hall.. i remember shuffling the snow with my shoes at the doors of homes i didn't want to be at.

Worked "no more bookstudies" into WT comment today!!!!
by oompa inhey i can dream can't i?
that would have been fun to see the look on elders faces, and they would have had such an awkward time of correcting my comment, if even possible.
i did however manage to inform my wife of the change, tell her how i found out, and put in her head the thought that this could not really be about gas, or it would have happend in europe years ago, and would be implemented immediately.

My wife banned all meetings this weekend, so she wasn't present for the annoucement, but I told her last week thanks to JWD and sites like this. When she found out the reasoning, she literally LOL'd and blurted out- "That's bullshit", which to me is a big step forward on deprogramming from the borg and be that ONLY a few months ago our relationship was on shaky grounds since my coming forward with my stance against the WTBS.
She actually spoke to her DF'd brother this morning about her doubts.

Excellent work, V. I finally introduce the wife to your work and she was very much impressed on the presentation, and at the same time shocked/sadden/angered at what she's invested all these years. I have been talking to her in past couple of months re: my exit and she was in a state of confusion up until recently where it's starting to become more and more self evident of this organization's double talk and hidden agenda.
Again, keep 'em coming!!!

^ Good theorey
It's from my own experience, while serving this organization abroad seeing first hand how receptive people in rural areas can be. Basically, anything coming from your mouth is considered truth. This organization, knowing that numbers are lacking for the better part in "enlightened nations", I agree that more of an effort is being made outside.

What "secrets" has my wife hidden since her baptism?
by kzjw ini'm a "believe what you want" kinda guy, so when my wife got involved w/ bible study 16 years ago, i didn't think much of it.
what could be wrong with having bible knowledge?
then came teh teocratic put downs because i didn't believe what she did.

Yup, the believing mate is being forced to stay, not by you but by the organization. She has no grounds and can't leave, unless you're unfaithful to her. But I've been hearing more and more about the elders (window washers and car detailers) allowing the believing mate to leave on grounds of spiritual endangerment. Not sure if that's true or not, but it wouldn't surprise the least bit.

Repudiate "Valueless Things" 4/15/08 WT
by bud2114 inhot off the presses - just some of the latest garbage coming out of brooklyn as found in the 1st study article - repudiate "valueless things" (4/15/08 koolaid edition wt): .
par 17: another example of valueless words is found among the religious leaders of christendom.
these claim to speak in god's name, but most of their utterances are not based on the scriptures, and what they have to say is basically worthless.

^Waiting for that as well. All that's doing is pushing those out who are still "in" that are having a hard time with certain doctrines and beliefs and just accepting not to cause any ripples in their local congregation...
Good works, guys!!!

They Push You In,,,,Then Punish You If You Go!
by new boy inthey brag about the fact that they the don' t baptize their babies because "how can a baby 'know' what religion it wants to believe in the rest of it's life!".
but a 14 year old does?.....they put so much presure on their children to get dunked, that if your not baptize by 18 years old there is something really "wrong" with you.. so the poor kid does it, just to get everyone off their backs.
legally a minor can't be held to a contract if they are under 18 years old and why?

Excellent topic.
First off- this hits home. Being baptised at 15, the only reason I DUNKED was seeing my younger brother asking to take the dunk, first. Having a rocky relationship with my step dad (my brother's biological father) and never living up to my parents expectations, I felt the need to do something that MIGHT make them happy, which never helped anyways in the long run. I honestly believed, if my younger brother never asked to get baptised, the thought wouldn't have crossed my mind. *SIGH* That's what happens when you try to live up to certain expectations that are not your own, but by the time you have the mental maturity to realize it's not for you, it's too late. Welcome to a world of hurt.
I've personally seen every age of baptism, starting from age 7 up to 18. Before doubting the WTS, I was vocally against baptism at such a young age and that included me @ the age of 15. Last assembly I attended, saw my good friend's niece get baptised at 12. What's going to happen when the hormones kick in? BOYS? SEX? God forbid, pregnancy. How can anyone in their right mind think this is appropriate for someone so young and be subjected to shunning if not repentant according to WTS during their teenage years as a baptised witness?
Sad really....

Maybe I should have gone to Memorial....possible regrets.
by oompa ini have a handful of friends that are still dubs.
we have very little social contact, but i do get the occasional invite over or for golf, and they will still come over.
i may have mussed that up by not going.

Chin up brotha! Wish I could say more than the cliche, but hang in there man. I possibly lost a good friend over the weekend, not for lying, stealing, or being a bad person... simply for speaking my mind.
I know it's hard to swallow, but what kind of friends are they if they'll pass judgement so quickly, despite years of service and being a good person. You didn't lose anything worth keeping if you can't be truthful to yourself.
Stay strong...
