sisters wearing pantyhose all year round?
brothers or sisters frowned upon for wearing snowpants whilst going outside in snowstorms or incidences of high snow (quite often in the mountains of pa) .

This is fantastic. Isn't it frustrating how 95% of witnesses base their entire lives on something that they have never really researched. Let's hope she can turn that around. Go carefully on this! Don't get overexcited! Stay calm, be reasonable. Be prepared for disagreement and disbelief, and allow her that for now. Good luck mate.

I have to agree on taking this slowly. Limit your subjects, and be careful to be respectful.
The only thing that ever got through to my husband was when I pulled out the Bible only and went through a series of scriptures about the blood issue.
I started with the scriptures showing blood could actually be eaten in the Mosiac Law under some circumstances. Then I went through to "abstain from blood and from things sacrificed to idols" and I showed him the scripture a few pages over where the "sacrificed to idols" bit was actually a conscience matter. I finished by reading Matt 12. Sorry I haven't put most of the scriptures in here - I think this was outlined in CofC. I'm running short of time but I wanted to drop a post to you quickly. Send me a PM if you need the passages.

New Aussie craze KRISPY KREME doughnuts --What is in them? WHY?
by Witness 007 inpeople are driving for miles to the few shops that have opened....many pioneers leave there own congregation territory to buy some 1 hour drive away....i took a box to my witness work mates...they acted like i was giving them gold!
poor witnesses.
they do taste excellent fresh....coffee shops like "starbucks" never took off here....were not big on coffee.

Doof Daddy.. I agree, Aussies are definitely coffee snobs. Personally I think that's why the big coffee chains don't do that well. The best coffee is made by a good barista in a locally owned cafe, and most of the big chains wouldn't know good coffee if it landed in their lap. haha I'm passionate about good coffee. :-) xxx

Hi! I'm new here!
by gloobster ini just signed up here, so i guess i should let everyone know a few things about myself.. my maternal grandfather was an elder in a congregation here, and he and my grandmother raised my mother quite strictly as a jehovah's witness.
my father's father was also a jehovah's witness, though much less devout.
when my parents were in their mid-20's they more or less disassociated themselves from the flock.

Hey G, thanks for that. Yes, it did help answer my question. You being so close to your grandparents would have made a difference for sure. I think I also was influenced heaps by my witness grandparents as well. Like you say, kids believe what they're told by the people they respect the most. Good point, this is useful for me at the moment - so thanks.
By the way, the book is "My Book of Bible Stories". Some of those stories are pretty gruesome. Amazing how a story and accompanying picture of a woman nailing a guys' head to the ground can be seen as fit for young children. Bloody hell. -

Hey, welcome Gloob!!
I'm really sorry to hear about your mum. I think you'll find some great support here.
Your situation growing up was unusual.. I'm interested to know - do you think that if you had been told about the faults in the teaching of the witnesses as a child, do you think you could have avoided being so influenced by your grandparents? Would having more knowledge have given you the power to avoid the mental programming? I find it scary that even with limited association a child can be made to feel so tied to the organisation.

Okay, confession time.
So I have a friend who is crazy about Krispy Kremes, but neither of us live near an outlet. So I was returning home from a trip away and I noticed a KK store at the airport. "A-ha!" I thought, "I'll buy just one for myself, and take four home for us to share."
SO. I bought five and ate one straight away. It was my first Krispy Kreme, don't judge me! Then on the plane flight I decided to crack into number two . . hey it was a long flight. :-) So I got home and realised that the remaining three had gotten squashed in the above head locker. So, I mean, what self respecting friend would hand over squashed doughnuts? And so there is my tale of how I consumed 5 Krispy Kremes in the space of 12 hours.
Phew, I feel so much better with that off my chest.

Captives of a Concept

i really enjoyed it.
i loved the way don cameron refused to get bogged down with arguing for an alternative scriptural interpretation to the witnesses.

Hey, not sure whether a new thread was started for this.. but yes, there was a Question from Readers which predictably left the Readers confused. :-)

I think if you really wanted to vote, you could get away with it for sure. -

IT support, thank you for the suggestion, but actually Don got the jump and I'm now the proud owner of my own electronic copy.
I can't even tell you how excited I am to read it - I've been wanting to get my hands on it for AGEST!
I'll feedback later for sure.. :-)
