The reason for the change, my opinion.
by joebin ini think the decision was made because elders were starting to really feel the pinch and maybe many were considering giving their resignation due to the heavy workload involved.
with the new arrangement, not only do they have one less meeting to get ready for a week but also less preparation for the remaining ones.
i don't think the org can afford to lose too many elders.

I agree that if they were to cut an activity to reduce the workload the bookstudy was the one to go because of the possibility of apostate thinking being introduced, with less control. Since they don't have much to write home about anymore, it makes it even easier for them. A couple of cut and paste and we're good to go.
Although they try to remove the words fun and socialize from their vocabulary, I'm sure the majority of the R&F just can't wait for 2009, so they can actually socialize and get a bit more of a life. Good for them.
It's been an interesting couple of weeks. It's been fun to have seen the light beforehand..lol

Thanks all for your comments.
I think I'll stick to my guns on this one.
People in positions of responsibility, ie: elders, CO's, even the GB, all have to take the lead (making sure their watchtowers and bookstudy materials are underlined, gotta be 100% regular, prepare the material for talks, ect). With the schedule as it was required quite a bit of work. Add to it all other responsabilities and you've got a hectic schedule. Overworked and underpaid. Having to shit, shower and shave (and putting on the clown suits) every other day becomes a pain in the ass when no end is in sight. So the elders complained, the CO's and upper ups saw that it would benefit them too to shorten the meeting schedule. More free time to just relax (and of course browse JWD..lol)
Information control? Maybe. But I think the bookstudy was actually a good way to find out who the bad eggs were.
Cutting costs? I don't see how this applies, the WT doesn't save anything by removing the book study.
I think the upper ups thought to themselves..wtf..why all this work anyway, let's cut ourselves some slack. Time to sit back and enjoy that fine wine.

I'm happy for all of them that somehow they finally got a little slack.

Am I the only one bored with all the "Changes to The BS" discussions?
by Princess Daisy Boo ini mean seriously friends... what difference does this announcement make to the grand scheme of things?.
yes, it may be a huge change to the way they do things, but what effect will it really have?.
it is not like we can use it against them to prove that they are not a ucked fup horrible mind controlling cult.

I think it will have an impact. Not the meeting itself but the fact that many told their family members. It will make the rounds that the apostates knew beforehand. But yeah, the threads were a little too much. It was fun to know before them.

Is there any way to disable it?
by Honesty ini haven't found a method that works more than 10% of the time.. most methods work for only a few minutes before they are themselves disabled by the unit's software.. i am at my wits end and need the advice of the board.. is there any way to disable the watchtower society's autopilot that have been installed on all jw model drones?.

What will you do when the Great Tribulation Begins?
by Malkiel ini've always wanted to ask this question to those that have decided to leave the organization.. what will you do when the great tribulation begins?.
right now folks, a lot is happening in the political world.. gordon brown (prime miniter of england) last week gave a speech to the un stating that it is time for the un to step in and solve the world's problems, (specifically mentioning the economy and hunger crisis worldwide.).
barrack obama is shaping up to be the next president, a fellow who sure knows how to persuade and lead great crowds.

I'll probably do the same thing you'll do. Run for cover. That's what the bible says we'll all do.
You put a value on your connection to the watchtower and your (or anyone's) salvation. Now I understand since the watchtower always says you have to be considered an active witness to get that special treatment during the great tribulation. Can you give me an example of things the watchtower will do for you in that time of crisis. I thought about it many times but could never come up with something practical. Not just.."we'll receive instructions" but more, what kind of instructions.
the question is, do I have salvation?
the simple answer is - i want to have it and i hope Jehovah deems me worthy of it.Your answer just goes to show that the WT has nothing to do with your salvation.
So the question is. do I need the WT for salvation?
take care
