I get the same as well! Mothers.... perhaps it's an Oedipus thing.....
I suppose I should consider myself fortunate she still talks to me and is open to some sort of 'argument' or discussion. She did take exception to what I thought about Rutherford though. How anyone can defend somebody that hid so much from his 'brothers' beats me. Nothing quite like "I've created some poo - sorry, we're in this together lads". Grrr! I've grown to despise Rutherford! Judge my *$$....! "I have to go - my head's killing me"!
My biggest difficulty is getting her to come to my wedding in 5 weeks time. I don't think it's gonna happen somehow :-( She admits that my 'intended' is the best person for me and we're so very well suited. She hates me ex-wife with a passion and that woman still remains a "sister" despite the fact she produced a daughter for me by another man! Fourteen years she carried that secret. I hate it and the lying, cheating cover-ups they do! Mum knows how bad some of the elders are/have been to her and her family - she says it's all about men! Too right - aren't they THE appointed instruments to put it right?
(I tried to fade but was hounded. One of the JC tried to step down over his children's behaviour but wasn't 'allowed'. "It's not your fault". The Grandfather [PO] has been particularly nepotistic. Pregnant grandaughter, drug taking grandson who sleeps around locally.... it goes on. DF'd ... no!). Sorry, I digress!
One can only hope.... age is against them though isn't it?

Help with a Wedding
by hotspur ini've been lurking here for weeks now and have found the site most informative.
but i have a problem which i'm sure has been dealt with before as most of my circumstances are not that unique.
my background is, i had been with the borg since i was 15, some 40 years ago (really, i should've realised earlier!

Thanks for your help everybody..... a few new things I hadn't considered so I'm very grateful. I guess when you're so close to such an emotive subject you can't always see things as clearly as others do.
I called her this morning and left it entirely with her --- emotional blackmail? I know my daughter is keen for her Grandma to come so maybe I'll leave it with her.
Anyway, thanks again. -

Joannadandy ---- you're so right. It was so clear to me this morning that she wasn't/isn't going to come that I kind of lost it with all the negativity. We spoke of many things today - some of her thinking was new to me. I never realised she had some doubts. I thought it was a good idea (nobody ever said I was clever) to add a few more to ponder over. I'm not certain it's doctrinal or just total intransigence with the JWs. Too much pride at stake or perhaps money through law-suits.
We're going to visit my nearly new Mother-in-Law this week and for the first time in 40 years did I hear just a hint of jealousy over Mother's Day this sunday from my mother. She is definitely hurting over something. I think I just best let her wrestle with her conscience and the love we both have for each other. I hope love wins out! I would just hate to think JW fear has won again. They have so much to answer for.....
troubledmind ---- I did that! Wedding photography, still do actually. My new wife-to-be is an excellent photographer and we do a good job together, even though I say so myself! Ha ha....
You're right about the bother it causes, hats off to the guy who said go and don't tell anyone. Lucky he wasn't like some of the hypocrites I knew.... cheerfully send you on your way and, equally as cheerfully, stab you in the back as soon as you return!
hc --- thanks for the formatting tip! -

Thanks hotchocolate.... that's pretty much how far I'd got. I'd heard in the UK that df'ing had received a boost, maybe a kick in the teeth would be more appropriate! It just seems so cruel and without any heart at all. When you're 'in' it's no quite so easy to see things, although I never truly subscribed to the idea of shunning... how does that bring anyone 'to their senses' just hardens their stance in most cases - so divisive.
cognac -- Nobody will see those photos really. Not one JW 'friend' of mine has ever contacted me. Not even any of the hanging committee - and you would think they'd have a duty of care. But, there again, we're talking logic and love..... probably the two things missing most amongst JWs -

Hi I've been lurking here for weeks now and have found the site most informative. But I have a problem which I'm sure has been dealt with before as most of my circumstances are not that unique. My background is, I had been with the borg since I was 15, some 40 years ago (really, I should've realised earlier!) and tried to 'fade'. So, I stopped going to the boredom sessions in 2000 - gradually! I had an affair in 2002 because of a failing marriage and had no further will to fix it - read here DEPRESSED! I was repentant at the JC hearing and went back to the marriage, only to find out 6 weeks later my darling JW, now, ex-wife (still in) had an affair 15 years earlier and my youngest daughter is not mine after all this time! I left and then 2 years later, with no meeting attendance at all (thank goodness), I moved in with a delightful lady (who is to become my wife in 7 weeks time!) being some 20 kms away from the old the congo that assasinated me. I never knew of the JC hearing just a phone call from my son saying I'd been df'd. He no longer attends. Ok - so! My mum wants to witness the wedding and is really very uncertain of being at the reception (she's now living 230kms away). She knows lots of things are wrong with the borg and has questioned them for years - she says "it's imperfect men that are wrong, I've nowhere else to go". My eldest daughter still attends the meetings, is coming to the wedding/reception and she wants her grandma to come as well. Nobody has a single thing against my betrothed and they all treat her very well - in fact, they prefer her to their mum! Go figure? How can I convince my dear mum to go against all the fear she has? She's no spring chicken.... LoL Please help.... any ideas? One big clincher - that's all it'd take. She hates all the paedo stuff, she's absolutely shocked over the UN debacle.... what can I do?

Forced Seating
by Tired of the Hypocrisy inanyone else have to deal with being herded to the front of the hall before a meeting?.
i recall one cong in particular...west sacramento was notorious for this crap.
i was a large individual and today i am even larger....lol 6'2" and around 250 lbs back then.

Then there's the seats specifically reserved for Disfellowshipped at the rear of the hall. That really irked me when I was 'in'. Our hall was always short of seating but, if you had been 'cast out' you were ALWAYS guaranteed a seat..... I was a slow learner!

I recall one cong in the UK made a rule that all speakers had to wear white shirts. This was fine and dandy until the visiting speaker turned up wearing blue shirt. This was fixed quite easily by the cong. buying a set of 'standard' shirts of all sizes/shapes so any errant speaker could fit their rules - they were asked to change into what was expected. Quite unbelievable but perfectly true. Can't say you'd df'd for it but what a way to go!
