im not trying to be self-righteous but i want to understand the thought process of someone who knows the origins of christmas, but starts celebrating it (putting up christmas tree, exchanging wrapped gifts; repeating merry christmas to everyone they see in the month of december)??

it seems very silly to me (imo) after knowing how and why christmas was created (to cater to pagans sun worship and convert to christianity)!!

Because we can!!! And noone condems us. It's harmless fun. And by the way, you do sound like you are condeming those who chose to celebrate.

A Sad Situation

i know of an elderly, pioneer sister who has a disfellowshipped son with a terminal illness.

and until recently, she has had no contact with him.

her son doesn't really have much longer to live.

Hi again, I've been absent for a bit

i was previously crazyblonde (couldn't get into my account after being absent for a while 0_o).. long story short, things have been interesting.. i'm successfully in the faded stage now.

got a bit of hounding - had a few elders calling and texting my husband about me (he's still in, kinda).

had an 'unexpected drop in' at our place too, which i didn't even know about until after as my hubby kept them outside.

I have the same problem with my mother. She uses my daed father as fuel, saying I won't ever see him again. But I finally told her I did'nt want to discsuss religion with her anymore as it just leads to frustration for both of us. It has worked for about 2 weeks now!

Accepting Christmas gifts

have you ever noticed how the ones that don't celebrate the holidays or give gifts are very quick to accept them from employers, etc?

my mom for instance is already talking about what she will use her christmas bonuses for but frowns on the ones doing the giving.

seems kinda hypocritical to me..

Shopaholic, That is so typical. Get offended for not getting something and then not be willing to give. I just finished wrapping some gifts and had a ball and it feels soooo good to give!

Garyneal, you are so right.We should'nt judge anyone and I thought about this topic I started and I guess I was judging my mother and others for accepting Christmas gifts and other things and I should'nt do that.

It's so hard to change old habits!
