  When you were an active JW, what did you pray for?

  no matter if god granted what you asked or not, what did you pray for ?

  I only remember praying once, actually. It was one of those really dire scenarios... where you just say "ok, if you're out there... please show me and HELP ME" but it didn't work. lol. Yes, the one time I prayed I prayed for myself. I was like 16 in a really bad situation not of my own doing. I had long ago given up on God, but I gave it one last chance.

  My story is like the JW anti-story. You know how they have all the accounts of someone who prays "please show yourself to me, God" and a JW knocks on their door?

  Prior to age 10-12 I don't have a lot of memories, they are very scattered... so maybe there was a time before that I prayed more with more belief, I can't say.

  Anyone get disfellowshipped for voting?

  according to a questions from readers in the 11/1/1999 wt, voting in political elections is technically a matter of conscience.

  of course, the article lays out numerous reasons why "mature christians" would choose not to vote.

  nonetheless, the article concludes that it is up to an individual's conscience.

  There is very little you can be DF'd for if you don't advertise your choices ;) If you feel like voting, vote. There is no rule that you have to tell everyone what you did that day.

  i received an email from my sister in law.

  she was relating an experience given in a talk at an assembly.

  a young couple wanted to have children, but they couldn't conceive, so they decided to adopt a child.

  This whole mentality, and not just from JW's mind you, annoys me to no end. Prayers answered that seem trivial compared to the major issues and problems in the world. So a boy gets to live with JW foster parents but a people are murdered and raped, war rages, entire countries starve... I just can't process it.

  Praise god when things go right, but don't ever blame him for the sadness in the world.

  My friend wants to know how to stop the JW's from knocking at her door

  i have no idea how to stop the witnesses from knocking at her door.

  she has ms and its difficult for her to stand at the door.

  Should I attend a Lord's Evening Meal at local Kingdom Hall?

  i am not a jehovah's witness but have been talking with a few jehovah's witnesses for about two months now, about once every week or every other week.

  on saturday they came and we had 'bible study' (actually starting to go through what does the bible really teach?

  ), and as they left they gave us a list of their meeting times at the local congregation and invited us to observe the lord's evening meal with them on march 22.

  That is so true. I was close to one couple once, where the husband believed he had a spiritual calling. Even his wife doubted him and said he really wasn't, that is was only because he was bipolar that he felt inclined to partake. One year he was going to give the memorial talk so *everyone* would see him partake... well, she cried for weeks before.

  I think people should stop going just because the witnesses view the high memorial numbers as "proof" that Jehovah is calling new sheeple to the flock... I don't want to contribute to that buzz that gets generated.

  What's with Ex-Jw's who join another religion? Fool me Twice????

  sorry no offense but why do some ex-witnesses here join another group....we have a muslim {muhamed was given a koran by an angel in a cave?

  }....we have some baptists etc......i researched the bible and found there are 1,000's of gospels not part of the bible...so what's the deal...."fool me once shame on you..fool me twice shame on me" or do you have a reason for continued belief in religion...i really wan't to know since iam agnostic and don't believe in god or evolution????

  I wonder if it doesn't have the most to do with a desire to have a place... a community... a sense of belonging in the world at large.

  I always say I'd go to church if it weren't for the whole bible thing... in some churches it looks actually fun and enjoyable. Especially for kids and family. But it all goes back to a belief I can't claim to support.

  was round my mates last night and was surfing utube, what the hell was that brenda lee thinking of crashing the memorial and chewing gum like a demented cow.

  it was painful to watch.

  my mate, a never witness was disgusted that someone could show so musch disrespect whatever your viewpoint.

  I had never heard of her... so I just watched it. Wasn't impressed either. She looked really nervous trying to play cool though, didn't she? I could almost feel her heart racing.

  I'd assume they'd just think she was an unbeliever who didn't know any better though, no? Or was this her old hall where she would be recognized? They probably didn't even count her in the numbers they sent to brooklyn. I know one year we had a study partake and they didn't count her since it was a "mistake".

  for me i think if it wasn't for the fact i'm gay, i'd still be an active witness.

  this year, even my mum has said that it wouldn't be "appropriate" if i was to go to the memorial.

  now the memorial is something i've never missed, so that kind of stings a bit.

  Not interested in marriage/romance?

  okay, so the site is full of people talking about their husbands, wives, girlfriends, boyfriends, ex-wives, ex-husbands, ex-girlfriends and ex-boyfriends, childhood crushes, current crushes, future crushes, favorite positions, etc.. .

  by the very nature of rejecting marriage, there's very rarely an occasion to voice our disinterest in romance.

  we just kind of sit their silently while everyone else talks about their sexual and romantic preferences.. i'm sure i'm not the only one here, so how about it?

  yes there are :)

  I still don't think it is biological to humans, but that is totally based on person experience, observation and feelings. I actually find monogamy much easier than I anticipated to be honest, but I still think it is a social construct.

  aww, come on Dawg, that isn't cool. You can just easily paint women with such a broad brush as you can men. To say we are all like that would be no different than someone to say "I've been with three guys and they have all hit me, therefore all men hit women". Give us some credit, man. Though you might want to revise your selection process

  I really believe that if a woman (or man for that matter) isn't happy with herself, she can never be happy with her partner. Unfortunately in our society (feminist hat firmly in place) women are taught it is somehow wrong to seek her own happiness and to find her fulfillment and confidence beyond a man, and I agree it can make for some pretty unhappy women in relationships. But that isn't a defining characteristic of a woman. I think you know that though.

  I agree that monogamy is social and not biological though, that has always made sense to me.
