While I personally disagree with the practice, there is some scriptural backing for it. I can't remember the verse I saw recently, but it basically said that if anyone in the congregation is committing a sin or breaking any of the commandments they should be put out, or something to that effect. That people outside the church or congregation should not be judged by church members on their sin, but that anyone within the church who sins should be called out on it. Anyone who claims to be a follower, but is an adulterer, or drunkard...etc. is not to be associated with. I think this was in the OT, but it may have been in Timothy...

I'm with Journey on this one. If you've remembered details of the dream lo this 9 years, it must have been an important one. I think you're okay to try to assign meaning to your dreams- as long as they don't start telling you to kill anyone, and your dog isn't telling you to kill anyone.

What prompted the whopper of all Flip Flops? (Sodom & G. resurrection)
by Open mind inin pre-studying my watchtower for this sunday, (with mary's assistance on v's thread of course), i was reminded of something i've wondered about re: the whole "will the residents of sodom & gomorrah be resurrected?
" question.. to my knowledge, this one holds the watchtower record for most number of flip-flops.
please correct me if i'm wrong.

I don't know what the official stance is, but the JW's hubby's been studying with informed me that everyone who has ever lived will be resurrected. I said I didn't think it was possible for all the millions of people now living and the millions who have lived in the past to all inhabit the earth at the same time- not enough room- certainly not enough room for each person to have the reported two acres of land.

You've come to the right place. There are suppotive and knowledgeble folks here that will help you anyway they can. Like Sweet said, your post is a bit confusing...are you saying he was raised in a JW (Jehovah's Witness) home, but is not a practicing witness? If so, ask him why he's not "in the organization" now...there must be some reason. I am in the situation where my hubby has been studying with the JW's, and that's been rough, so I can only imagine what you're going thru. If he is an active JW, then are y'all living together? I suspect he isn't, otherwise what you're doing would be considered living in sin and he would've had to go thru talks with the elders (or someone) at least. And if you are "living in sin" then how hardcore of a witness is he? Anyway, Sweet had a good point- if you can't even talk to him about something that's bothering you this deeply, what kind of relationship do you really have? Not a healthy one, that's for sure. If this man really loves you he wants you to be happy. The only way you can be happy is to get all these feelings out into the open and discuss what's going on. If not, you'll always have problems. I know a bit about what I'm talking about- been married twenty years now. -Potential

Glad you are safe! Even if dad didn't really give a reaction you know he must care about you, because he called. Also, he called just at the moment you were wishing you could talk to him...that tells me there is still a "link" between you. Subconcioulsy (in his spirit?) he knew you needed to hear from him, and he called. It's also positive, because he still had your number- if he never intended to speak to you again he would've thrown it out a long time ago. Maybe he will actually call you again sometime. I hope so.

Tula, you are a fountain of knowledge! I had heard some of these ideas about the symbol back in the 70's as a kid. To me it is a peace symbol...I liked it even more because this one has all the flowers on it, so it's even more hippie-ish. Maybe I should've used a photo of someone flashing the hand sign instead...If we were anywhere else I'd simply use my photo, but you'll understand if here I prefer to remain "Anonymous".

No one comes to the Father but through Me
by JH incan anyone explain to me what "no one comes to the father but through me" means ?.
i told my mom, who is getting baptized tomorrow in the baptist faith, that we have to pray to the father, not jesus like they do.
she told me that they pray to jesus because jesus said, "no one comes to the father but through me", so they pray to jesus directly, and then he relays the prayer to the father.

I know the topic of the Trinity is very heated, and confusing, but never say never (as they say), JH...One passage that I've found that demonstrates how Jesus is a divine beaing (read: not created)is John 8:58-59: 58 Then Jesus said to them, "Most assuredly I say to you, before Abraham was I AM." 59 Then they took up stones to throw at Him; but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple, going through the mist of them, and so passed by. Why would the Jews stone Jesus, except that they knew what He meant when He said "I am". That would mean He is God, and because they didn't even believe He was God's Son if He called Himself "I am" that would be blasphemy were He not the Son of God.
I've heard it is very easy to get the interlinear translation- just ask for it at the KH.
Eliveleth, you've brought up another scripture that has been changed (however slightly) from original translations: John 1:1. The NWT adds the word "a" to the passage. None of the other Biblical translations express it in that manner (as far as I know). The accepted translation says "and the word WAS God.". Yes, it's a very slight difference, but we can all see how it completely changes the meaning. If He was God that's one thing. If he was "a god", that's a whole 'nother can of worms...

let's talk about Holy Communion and the WTS "non-communion"
by potentialJWconvertswife inhere's the question: why do the whole memorial thing if (i'm assuming) there will be few or (in most cases) no one actually taking the sacrament?
and what reason does the wts give for saying only anointed can partake?
are there any examples of the disciples administering holy communion to any regular folks?

Oompa- what would happen if you did that? Would you be tackled by the brothers because you're too young to be of the 144,000 class?! ha ha ha...
Caljuher- Thanks for the info. I know in the Lutheran church you must be baptized and of a certain age to take sacrament, and it is the same in the Catholic, Episcopal and many other churches. All of those aforementioned religions believe that the wine and bread are Christ: "This is His body, take and eat. This is His blood, shed for you. Take and drink" are the words the Lutheran pastor says when giving Holy Communion to his congregation.
lesterd- What are you saying- you've never heard of the Last Supper???? Jesus said: "Do this in remembrance of Me." Are you in the WTS organization still? Just curious....

And what reason does the WTS give for saying only anointed can partake? Are there any examples of the disciples administering Holy Communion to any regular folks? If the practice wasn't passed down through the apostles, how did it come to be used in most modern day religions? Okay, I know this is more like a series of questions, but if you have insight or answers to any of these, please post.
