I've always wanted to do the skydiving thing myself. It's not the height that's preventative, just the cost and the time. I also would like to learn to scuba dive. -Potential

Why do many of us keep refering to IT as "THE TRUTH"?
by ldrnomo inbecause that was the name the borg placed on it's religion, "the truth" it seems to be stuck with many of us.
i am making a concious effort to not refer to it as "the truth".. it is not the truth, it is not the way, and it is definitley not the life!.
so let's stop it people!.

I nearly fell out the first time I heard hubby use that phrase. This was exactly the type of cult-like language I had been steeling myself up for. "She's only been in the truth a short time" he said. I snapped- "The truth?!!! What is that supposed to mean?!" The reply was something like "if you're saved then you're in the truth". "So all Christians are in the truth?" I asked- "basically, yes" he said. Shows that he was never fully indoctrinated. Thank God!! -Potential

My Wife Is Getting A Sheparding Call
by sacolton ini've disassociated myself since february.
i made no secret of my disapproval of the wtbts and was very vocal to my doubts of it being god's true organization on earth to the po.
now, the po and another elder has scheduled to talk with my wife tonight for a sheparding call at the home of the book study.

SAColton- I'm so sorry to hear this. This is exactly the reason I've been fighting so hard to keep my hubby "out". When I first told him I thought that if he became a witness it would be threatening to our marriage (because I would never join up) and that the dubs would force us apart he said that the organization would never do that, they value marriage too highly. After all, I mean, "what God has put together let no man put asunder" and all, right?! HA! I wish I knew some good advice to give you. I guess all I can say is be as supportive as you can, listen to your wife, and maybe tell her that you feel your union together is in danger. I say maybe- you know her better than I do, not sure if that would spook her or what. Best of luck. -Potential

The state flag - upside down
by Jim_TX ini am not that patriotic - but i like our state flag.
texas.
it has a blue vertical bar with a single star in it, and two horizontal bars - a white one (on top) and a red one (on bottom).

Hey, Jim! I think maybe those folks at the trailer park are not native Texans. That is the ONLY excuse for not knowing which way is up! Come on- we Texans are so dang proud of our flag that many decorative items incorporate it- as much of it as we see around here, you'd think people could get it right! I don't blame you for being pissed- I would be too. No Texan worth his or her salt would stand by for the kind of disrespect to our Lone Star flag. Shame on those folks! At least they finally fixed it.
LouBelle- PO's Son got it right- except one thing- Texas has actually retained it's independent nation status (I believe). Every now and again a cry for the state to secede from the union can be heard from radicals. Another point about the states, that may not exist in your provinces is state laws- each state has it's own laws regarding income taxes (Texas has no state income tax, one of the few) the sale of alcohol- (in Texas each county or city actually controls this, and there are areas that are "dry"- you can't buy alcohol), etc, etc. We are very proud of our state flag here in Texas, it is one of 6 that have flown over the state, including the flag of Mexico among others. It's a stunningly simple design, but invokes staunch loyalty from the citizens of the Lone Star state. Here's something you probably don't know if you're not from here: Texas comes from the American Indian word "tejas" (pr: tay- haas), meaning friend. This concludes our Texas history lesson for today. :) -Potential

McCain dismisses legislation allowing women to fight for equal pay
by nvrgnbk inmccain dismisses equal pay legislation, says women need more training and education.today, sen. john mccain (r-az) skipped the vote on the ledbetter fair pay act, which restores the longstanding interpretation of title vii of the civil rights act, overturned last year by a 5-4 supreme court ruling.
in new orleans today, mccain explained his opposition to the bill by claiming it opens us up to lawsuits for all kinds of problems.
later in new orleans, he added that instead of legislation allowing women to fight for equal pay, they simply need education and training:.

I don't think that's accurate Burn- the act would have allowed folks to sue on the fair pay issues for (I think) 6 months after their last discriminated paycheck. The thing about this case is that the poor lady didn't know until the very end! She had been getting underpaid all those years, then just before she retired an anonymous source tipped her off. The decision had been that she would be able to sue, thing BAM! Next thing you know the decision is reversed so that in order to sue you must do so within (again, I think) 6 months of receiving your first discriminatory paycheck. Now how the hell is that even possible,if you don't know it's going on?!!! This makes the law completely useless IMO. You'd have to start investigating your employer immediately after being hired. Who does that, unless they have a really strong feeling that something is wrong? That woman trusted her employer to take care of her, never imagining that they were secretly screwing her over. What was it- 78 cents on the dollar compared to the male counterparts? I know Ruth Bader Ginsberg put out a statement on the decision deriding her co-justices for their lame vote. I need to read that! -Potential

I actually did see an article about this in the local paper. It was written by one of the Military "analysts" in defense of himself and his colleagues. -P
