my daughter recieved this email from one of her witness "friends".
she is counseling my daughter (indirectly) about her choice to date a "worldly" guy.. hey, so, we had a talk recently that was about love & respect in your marriage.
the brother brought out that this was more for us witnesses rather than worldly people, because it seems that even in the truth now marriage has lost it's correct place.
What a sicko letter! The mind the barfed this drivel up must be rotten to the core!
Let your daughter post her reply letter...I am really curious how this will turn out.

the elders feel obliged to have you work on at least, something.
what did they tell you?
I was used as an example for the congregation in most things except hours in service. But never received much counsel on this...When having doubts and doing research is when the counsel started.
When I started to ask questions the elders said I did my research in a 'wrong manner'.
They never explained how exactly my manner was wrong, I guess they just didn't like what I dug up.
It still makes me mad: window washing, cheese cracker men telling me, an undergraduate college student, that my research methods are flawed. The nerve!

still in the memorial season and the usual puzzling question:
anointed or not anointed ??
just take a look at what, in mho, i do consider amazing ex.
It seems from the Scriptures that God was specially taking out the spiritual class up until 1931
yet no scriptures are provided!

.
the picture on page 18 shows five elders intently reading some verses in the bible.the one at the head is seemingly reviewing those scriptures with the others.three of them are taking notes, one is not ,he is eye -- balling the other one.. do the elders trust each other?
page 17 par.17 trusting in jehovah means trusting in those whom he trusts.example:the fds.the elders who are appointed by holy spirit.by cooperating with the elder arrangement in the congregation,we also show that we trust in jehovah.. trust:a firm belief or confidence in the honesty, integrity, relliability, justice, etc.of another person or thing.. with few exceptions the fds.and its appointed elders do not measure up to the meaning of trust.as the record shows, and painfully so,that many have suffered harm for misplacing their trust in such ones.. blueblades (who does not trust them any more and according to them that means that i don't trust god either.how do they know whom i trust?
Apperently the Bereans didn't trust the apostle Paul enough! They checked his words with the scriptures. Did Paul say: "Hey, Jesus trusted me and so should you"? Nope, in fact he praised them for their eagerness to 'make sure of all things'.
If the apostles didn't demand trust, then why should the elders?
And like Gopher pointed out: trust must be earned, it cannot be demanded.

a resent thread has got me thinking.
the question is: when a jw comes to my door what reaction of mine would have the best chance of motivating that person to ponder or question their beliefs?
what will help them open, rather than shut down and fortify their shell of exclusivity?
James,
I think you have the right ideas! The best way to make them doubt is to prove their worldview false purely by your behaviour. They see worldlings as evil enemies, fit for destruction. When they meet a kind, calm and intelligent person this throws them of balance. It also induces them to listen and try to save you because they see you as a sheep-like one. Then use the socrates method on them, asking them simple sincere questions that makes them think. You could say that you are interested in their religion and respect the work they do. Yet, while studying their material some questions came up. Ask them in, give them a cup of coffee and let them explain. Take a subject you have thourouhly(sp?) studied for this. It could be 607 for example or prophesies and new light. You came across it and this surprised you.
By letting them explain you accomplish several things: They will see how little they really know, How a fresh look can change it all, confront thme with doctrines they never knew (like jesus being only mediator for the 144.000) etc etc.
You make them prove their own doctrines, something the avarage JW finds very hard to do. This is confronting for most of them. Kindness is a great antidote!

this week's study article again lauds the great power and strength of the devil.
(wt march 1, 2003, study for april 13, 'be courageous and strong', para 3-4. you know, roaring lion, bla, bla, struggling christians, bla bla.
this got me to thinking.
As christians claim, only God wrote a book while Satan has not.
Even if both God and Satan existed, would it be fair to hear only one side of the story? Never wondered about that?
