How is it in your part of the world, can you turn right on red lights?
Nope, not in the Netherlands.

here in quebec, since a few days now, we can turn right on red lights.
we must be the last place in the world that adopted this.. i was expecting that just about at every traffic light this would take effect, but no, only 30% of intersections allow it.
70% of intersection, you can't turn.. how is it in your part of the world, can you turn right on red lights?.

How many of you have dissected a frog in biology class?
Ah dissecting! This brings back memories. Smelly ones mostly. I have done frogs, rats, mice, worms, grasshoppers, squid, several species of fish and even a shark!
Killing creatures for fun is a big no-no for me. I am all in for having respect for life in general, but making animal life equal or even above human life is morally detestable!
The story smells like a hoax.

while people w faith generally feel superior to people without, their faith requires them to disbelieve much, as well.
for instance: .
1. the total lack of provable existence of a bible god leads to the conclusion that there is not a bible god.
I agree with your points BUT :
What counts too is that JW's are being kept isolated and ignorant. For example inconsistencies in the Bible: If you look this up in the reasoning book you will find a rebuttal to a householder's argument: "there are inconsistencies in the bible". The rebuttal is: "nobody has ever shown me one". Which is right on target.
The WTS never informs people of those inconsistencies. It never points out that 607 has no archeological basis unlike 587. It never shows problems or conflicts. By providing only one view while forbidding to look at other views makes it very easy to believe. The problems start when someone starts pointing them out. Such a person is quickly DF'ed to shut him up.
This is what bothered me: only one view, no debate, no asking questions outside the box, that made me question their integrity and honesty.

your baptism date is supposed to be the most important time of your life.
i was 9 years old when i took the plunge.
i remember my baptism, mostly because, i was baptized twice.
Min: I was baptized twice. My feet poked thru the water the first time around. Other than that, I really don't remember much
Exactly my case! funny!
Oh, but I do remember not feeling any change and being diappointed over that. And I got presents: a watch and a few worldly books heheh I believe it was Tolkien...

jw's are supposed to be the cleanest, the happiest and the most honest people on earth.
in reality, do you think that they are amongst the most stupid people on earth??
?
amongst the most stupid people?
Stupid is to harsh a word a would say they are amongst the most naive and gullible.
They DO have the capacity to think but this is numbed down by indoctrination and isolation, to this children are the most vunerable and that is where they get most growth from.

when you were a jw, did you witness a rather large enthusiasm from your congregation for passing fads?
what i mean is, one dub would start something and everyone would join in?
this was especially prevelant with the women of the congregations.. for instance, for a while every female dub was undertaking this strange diet where they basically drink this really odd and particularly disturbing looking mushroom that they kept in their fridge.
In_between_days, :
I think the fad that has popped up the most in this thread is health diets and vitamins, natural medication ect. This was always huge in dub land, no matter what congregation you went to. I wonder why this is
I think this is because 1) they are gullible and 2) the WTS learns them to distrust modern science including medical science. So they turn to pseudo science and self help stuff.

my daughter recieved this email from one of her witness "friends".
she is counseling my daughter (indirectly) about her choice to date a "worldly" guy.. hey, so, we had a talk recently that was about love & respect in your marriage.
the brother brought out that this was more for us witnesses rather than worldly people, because it seems that even in the truth now marriage has lost it's correct place.
Maybe your daughter can re-reply by giving a definition of love, unconditional love that is (agape).
Love goes beyond opinion. Mates can differ in opinion on al assets of life, why should religion be excluded from this? Does he lead a clean, respectable life? That's what matters more than what religion he has. Among JW's there are also abusers. Religion is just a label, not a quality garanty!

Witnesses are by definition gullible people so there fads are likewise.
In our congregation there were strange diets, Doc. Vogel, Chinese herbs from weird shops downtown, accupuncture, iriscopy, podoscopy etc etc At times it looked more like a new age club than a JW club. Oh and we had one devout Trekkie. She actually wore the jewelery and sometimes even the uniforms! And to top this, she had a button that, if you touched it, crooked "beam me up scotty".
How nutty can you get?
this weekend a close relative got married, so i went along to the service, chafing at the bit the whole time i was in the church (dutch reformed, if it makes any difference).
as usual, i could feel myself getting subliminally drawn into what the pastor was talking about, although you could say i disagreed with him on some fundamental points, but yours truly kept quiet as he was sitting next to his grandfather .
personally i always thought i was 100% dutch.
SYN you keep cracking me up!
50% Irish! Now you have to start working on yer accent eh?
As far as I was told, all my relatives left the Netherlands because they felt too battened down and sexually repressed there
LOL!
Have you ever visited Holland BTW?
May [enter your favorite diety here] have mercy upon the souls of those battened pioneers!
