i've mentioned my oppressive years in a church run house.
i recently came across the agreement you had to sign to continue to live there when the new leadership took over.
i have reproduced it below.
Then...you are pretty stunning! And even look like Sandra!

in another thread, mini questioned why the wts does not see that the gb and elders are like the pharisees.
what do you all think are the "rules" jws have been given that smack of pharisaical (is that a word?
) burdening and/or hypocricy?.
Hey, wow! That is the very first time I have been counseled here (besides Vivamus kicking my butt now and then)!
My defence: But Br foreword, there is so much more to mention, enough for the rest of us to last three whole studies!
LOL

Several weeks later, the house's head hippie decided to cook a fish soup/stew using the fish bones and heads - the whole house smelled like something had been dead in there for months!
Iewwww!

Rules how to dress
Rules how to marry
Rules how to eat
Rules how to speak
Rules how to date
Rules how to behave in public
Rules how to have sex
Rules how to smile at the door
Rules how what to think
Rules how to study
Rules how to lead a life that benefits them.
Rules which music/movies/friends/mates etc are allowed
Rules how to shun types like Greven
You really can't think of anything or they have some silly rules about it to control that aspect of life!

"The Three-Legged Cat Rule"
LOL! Now I really wonder what that one was about.... Don't feed the stray three-legged cat?

Dansk,
I read them with an entire different agenda and outlook, this helps. I 'try to find fault' in their reasoning, interpretations and facts as part of my anti-jw campaign. I also studied propaganda and as part of that had to go trough quite alot of stuff that was brainnumbing, but you'll defenitely learn how to recognise it and counteract it.
To all: Compare the appreciating the WT quote to this one:
*** w94 9/1 20 Beware of Boasting *** Boasting Stems From Weakness While some may withdraw from braggarts, feeling inferior in their presence, others react differently. They conclude that boasters are insecure. Writer Frank Trippett explains why the person who blows his own horn may, ironically, lower his esteem in the eyes of others: “Everybody knows at heart that boasting usually signals some pathetic private weaknesses.” Since many see right through the boaster’s mask, is it not wiser to refrain from windy self-praise?
Funny eh?

the borg's writing department have proven to be adept at putting a favorable spin on what they prepare for public dissemination.
you know how it goes, say one thing while doing another, such as when letters to boe "clarify" procedures as found in the watchtower magazine.. .
here's one from the new publication that all baptism candidates must study:.
It is clever! As an outsider you actually read something that is not there. But if you read it carefully you can see what they really mean:
However, Jehovah’s Witnesses do not meddle in politics. Nor do they interfere with what others [ie: non JW's] do as to joining a political party, running for political office, or voting in elections. Jesus said that his disciples would be no part of the world, so Jehovah’s Witnesses take no part in politics.” (Worship the Only True God, page 163)
So JW's do not vote and run for public office, but do not interfere with non jw's doing this.
I have seen more of these tricks. very clever indeed!

my father was disfellowshiped for smoking.... the whole our bodies are temples, respect for god, being weak, addiction and the rest of the reasons....blah blah blah.
i admit that this is a bad habit, and has side effects... ones that he would have to suffer, but not directly hurting god himself.
so this got me thinking that if people participate in an activity (or lack there-of) and it directly or indirectly causes their temples to be desecrated shouldn't they also suffer repercussions?
Viv? Overweight? C'mon! Get real! Don't talk nonsense!
How is your smoking addiction BTW?

i know of very few people that helped bring people in the "truth".
even those who concentrated on their own families usually realize that their children do not want the "truth".
most publishers were disorganized with regard to their return visits and house-to-house records.
Placed mags but never did RV's. No succes thank God!
A friend of mine from school became interested in religion. My mum prompted me to invite him to the hall, but i never did. Somehow I did not want him to come...this started me thinking!
