Any funny stories of when a"brother" giving a talk, said something "funny" or "questionable", and didn't even realize it?
by Dunedain inthere were always all types of speakers in the org.
myself, growing up a "witness", must have heard all types of talks, and given by all manner of speakers, especially on sundays, when almost every week we would get a "visiting" brother giving the public talk.. sometimes, you would have a "great" speaker, all fluent and animated.
other times we would get a comical speaker, one who would maybe purposelly get a few laughs outta the audience.

after the 1987 great storm which was the very worst England had ever seen the public speaker the following Sunday said; "haven't we be having some wonderful weather lately", bear in mind quite a few people were killed in this storm. -

Where has all the money gone?
by gingerbread ina number of years ago when i was still active, our service group was having a coffee break with the visiting circuit overseer.
during the conversation he mentioned that the "society" was now being run like a business.
being raised in the "truth" i thought that rather odd (and my eyes began to be opened!

the hedge funders have very expensive lifestyles to service. Just of of interest wonder what the ball park figure of the expense of Warwick really is? -

big accident at Warwick construction site
by oppostate inthe wt society is fond of using the tilt-up method of construction where a network of rebar is made on the ground, concrete poured on it and allowed to cure, then the whole thing is tilted up and voila' you've got yourself a massive big-ass wall ready made.
these walls for several stories-high buildings are indeed massive and weighty so you need a heavy-duty crane to raise into position.. i just heard from an eye-witness ldc volunteer that while there a few weeks ago they had an enormous accident.
the crane tilted and crashed, the only one hurt was its operator.

Is Lying a Disfellowshipping offence?
by stuckinarut2 inso, if lying or being deliberately misleading is a "disfellowshipping" offence, why haven't the brothers who lied to the australian royal commission been brought before a judicial committee?
?.

If there is anything to bible prophecy, keep an eye out on Israel
by EndofMysteries inwhat will be the end game whether in a few years, our lifetime, or hundreds + years from now.
bible prophecy did say israel / jews would be scattered then eventually brought back.
russell was declaring that and it was believed before being changed shortly before it happened.

laughable really, there isn't one single so called Bible prophecy that has been fulfilled or will ever be fulfilled, forgetting about the Bible is probably the best thing -

Did an EX-JW wake you up to TTATT or did you put the effort to wake up yourself?
by John Aquila inhow many of us were woken up by some apostate yelling false prophets at a convention?.
how many of us were woken up by someone holding a sign and yelling, what happened to 1975.
how many of us were coerced to investigate the wt because some ex-jw pulled up a bunch of old watchtowers magazines and told us to read the false predictions?.

when I would see the placard waving protesters at the DC I would take a look and wondered what all the "dates" were about and didn't pay any further attention to them, I though they were a load of loons, one particular day I walked over to where they were positioned and walked over to a guy handing out their leaflets , I gave him a tirade of angry rhetoric and told him that members of the true religion would find themselves persecuted by the Evil Slave Class, I think it left him speechless as he had no answer whatsoever, so I would say the anti jw protesters had very little effect on my current standing as a jw. The real shaker for me came around the time of the WACO siege in 1993, although I had been expressing a lot of doubts about my faith the siege was huge news across the world, local radio station here in London was conducting a phone in show about cults and sects and the guest on the show was an expert in the subject, there was an appeal at the end of the show to anyone who is concerned about friends or families in cults etc to phone the show and some advice could be passed on , I phoned the show and was guided locally to some resources , that was the beginning of the end for me. -

Impressions of the Governing Body; who's smart, who ain't?
by Room 215 inbased on what we've seen, it seems to me that of the seven, splane and jackson are the smartest; herd, lett and morris the least intelligent; and sanderson and losch somewhere in the middle.
.
what's your impression?.

from what I've seen I'd agree, god knows how Lett ever became a GB member, Splane seems a decent speaker.
