surely costs must be a part of the reason, most of Europe now meet in conference halls, the grand old days of meeting in vast sports stadiums must be long gone, they must be eye wateringly expensive, plus in the UK the ancillary costs of stewarding, first aid,police, traffic marshalling etc are legal requirements for these kind of events. I've not read the Bottings book, but do agree with their assessments of keeping the R&F busy and not left behind and being upto date with latest "changes and new light" their unique "cult speak" is a very important tool for the leaders. -

Boredom at the Kingdom Hall meetings
by RULES & REGULATIONS input aside all the stupid rules,beliefs,doctrines and practices of the jehovah's witnesses.this is one of the main reasons why i stopped attending all meetings!

the very last time i went out in field service, hardly any were out.
maybe just about nine people were out and man if you could just see their faces.

without a doubt, I simply never see them out in the FS at all these days, and the borough I live in is a very large residential commuter belt set of towns, they stand lazily at the carts 2/3 times a week playing with their mobile phones and gossiping, so much for the life saving message they are meant to have, the last chat I had with them on the cart a few weeks ago I mentioned to the lady "do you lot still go out on the D2D work around here because in the 11 years I've lived in the borough I've never been called on" she said "oh yes will still go out" she clearly is lying, I asked " why dont you leave a leaflet or something if you call? and I remember when invites for the memorial where posted through letter boxes and the special "tract" campaigns where entire territories were covered in a "leaflet drop" dont you do this anymore? she just stared at me
