I remember reading a story in high school that had a guy in it named First-And-Second-Thessalonians. They called him 'Thess.

Brothers, did you like being asked to say a prayer?
by sacolton ini dreaded it!
i've seen brothers freeze-up doing prayers with long uncomfortable silences to think of what to say.
sometimes my mind would just go blank and i would panic at the thought if i paused.

It was always a little awkward speaking aloud to an imaginary dude while a bunch of grown adults pretended to be intensly interested in my every word, but not without its amusing aspects as well.

Circ. Ass. Last Weekend...oh boy!
by tresdecu inso i had to suffer through the ca last weekend, it was rough at 1st, i was actually sick to my stomach the night before, fortunately my little boy kept me occupied during the session and i got to walk around a lot.. the do cracked down on 'true christians' watching vampire movies aka....twilight.
i know this series is hugely popular with a lot of teens and 20somthings, even a young elder and his wife (mostly the wife) are really into them.. he said true christians just don't watch such things.
haha.

I remember when I was little an elder condemned any kind of cartoons or anything with talking animals, because their unnatural ability to speak didn't come from Jehovah. Also the PO said that we shouldn't watch anything rated PG because that stood for "pure garbage".

Did you ever feel let down by the Bethel tour?
by maninthemiddle inreading jeff's thread about dress made me think of my one and only trip to bethel.. i can't remember if i was babtised at the time, but i went with a bus load of jws.. like someone said in the last thread, printing presses and empty rooms.
i was very disapointed, however i don't think i had any pre-concieved notions of what it would be like.
what i was diapointed in was so much of the "tour" was walking hallways looking at exhibits behind glass.

I never had money to go on the tour, but if I had I probably would have loved it, just for a chance to get away from the house and do something, anything. Besides being a JW, which meant that fun of any kind was verboten, both my parents are the kind of people who never do anything. We went camping one time when I was growing up, and by going camping, I mean we drove to the next county over, set up a tent, took a nap in it, and packed up to go home before dark. And that was the highlight of the whole summer. I had never been outside of Ohio until my twenties, and that was for work. I can't remember us ever really going anywhere or doing anything as a family. I was so desperate for something to do, I used to cry actual tears if I didn't get to go to the grocery store. Everyone else came back from the tour and couldn't stop gushing about how wonderful it was and I really felt left out at the time.

Have you ever made prank phone calls?
by asilentone ini have never done it and i would not do it ever.
the reason why i am asking all of you is because i am shocked that one of my classy facebook friends admitted making prank phone calls in the past.

Another dig at Satan attacking Jehovah's people in the June Awake
by life is to short ini guess it has always been there but lately i have noticed it more.
in the june awake on page 9 under stress the very last paragraph says "this is not to say that if all the bible based advice provided above was applied, you would be free of stress.
the tact is, satan the devil has made those who worship god the focus of his efforts to prove that they will abandon true worship when they are put under enough stress.

Did JWs use you to get their time in?
by truthseeker inthis has happened to me on more than one occasion.
a jw suddenly notices you at the hall and asks to work with you.
this continues for a while and then you are dropped.

A couple times. When I was studying to be baptised a pioneer elder used me for time quite a bit. He did actually take an interest in me, and did other stuff with me too. I don't know how much of the other stuff got counted as time.
Also a new elder came to my congregation after I was quite clearly out. For a while he and his protoge kept coming to my house to talk to me, which I was okay with, because he was a nice guy and there was absolutely no way he was getting me back in, so I had nothing to lose by letting him talk. So then one day he comes with like four other guys and they're all standing around me on my porch and I felt really on the spot. So new elder starts talking about what a nice car I have, and he asks me if I'd take him for a ride in it some time if he needed a ride, and I was um, okay, I guess. So then he's like well why don't you give me a ride to the meeting this sunday. And I'm like wow, this guy is good, but not good enough.
So I go pick him up. He just lived like five minutes away, and I had to go to town anyway, so whatever. I'm wearing a tshirt and blue jeans, and he gets in the car and he's like I had hoped you were coming to the meeting with us, and I was like ha! No way am I wasting this gorgeous sunday morning at another meeting. So he makes small talk and when I get to the KH his protoge gets out leaving us alone, and he asks me straight up if I wanted to be associated with the org any longer, and I told him that I thought I had made it pretty plain by now that I did not. I then asked him what time he wanted me to come back and pick him up, and he said he'd find his own way home, and I'm thinking awesome! Neither he nor anyone else from there has ever come to bother me again. It's great.

Could a religion form around the life and teachings of Ghandi?
by gaiagirl inghandi lived a life which many would view as exemplary, and is revered even now as a model humanitarian.
could the stories associated with his life expand over the next several centuries so that a religion based on his life and example would be created?
would future generations tell stories about miracles which he performed, stories which we don't tell because the stories haven't yet been created?

I don't think that really matters much, if his future follows create a religious persona for him. I mean, do you think the real jesus bears any resemblence to the jesus people worship today?
