Another dig at Satan attacking Jehovah's people in the June Awake
by life is to short ini guess it has always been there but lately i have noticed it more.
in the june awake on page 9 under stress the very last paragraph says "this is not to say that if all the bible based advice provided above was applied, you would be free of stress.
the tact is, satan the devil has made those who worship god the focus of his efforts to prove that they will abandon true worship when they are put under enough stress.

A couple times. When I was studying to be baptised a pioneer elder used me for time quite a bit. He did actually take an interest in me, and did other stuff with me too. I don't know how much of the other stuff got counted as time.
Also a new elder came to my congregation after I was quite clearly out. For a while he and his protoge kept coming to my house to talk to me, which I was okay with, because he was a nice guy and there was absolutely no way he was getting me back in, so I had nothing to lose by letting him talk. So then one day he comes with like four other guys and they're all standing around me on my porch and I felt really on the spot. So new elder starts talking about what a nice car I have, and he asks me if I'd take him for a ride in it some time if he needed a ride, and I was um, okay, I guess. So then he's like well why don't you give me a ride to the meeting this sunday. And I'm like wow, this guy is good, but not good enough.
So I go pick him up. He just lived like five minutes away, and I had to go to town anyway, so whatever. I'm wearing a tshirt and blue jeans, and he gets in the car and he's like I had hoped you were coming to the meeting with us, and I was like ha! No way am I wasting this gorgeous sunday morning at another meeting. So he makes small talk and when I get to the KH his protoge gets out leaving us alone, and he asks me straight up if I wanted to be associated with the org any longer, and I told him that I thought I had made it pretty plain by now that I did not. I then asked him what time he wanted me to come back and pick him up, and he said he'd find his own way home, and I'm thinking awesome! Neither he nor anyone else from there has ever come to bother me again. It's great.

Could a religion form around the life and teachings of Ghandi?
by gaiagirl inghandi lived a life which many would view as exemplary, and is revered even now as a model humanitarian.
could the stories associated with his life expand over the next several centuries so that a religion based on his life and example would be created?
would future generations tell stories about miracles which he performed, stories which we don't tell because the stories haven't yet been created?

I don't think that really matters much, if his future follows create a religious persona for him. I mean, do you think the real jesus bears any resemblence to the jesus people worship today?

Lunacy on leeches, blood and bone.
by hamsterbait inback in the pre apostasy days of the witchtower:.
leeches cannot be used for medical purposes as we are deliberately feeding them on blood.. the elduhs would take a dim view of couples having sex during the wife's menses, and will take action if it is brought to their attention.. the use of blood and bone meal in the garden is unscriptural.. all the above appeared during the late 70s and early 80s.. all are based on mosaic taboos.
"true, christians are not under the mosaic law, but...".

I also remember being admonished to abstain from buying cat food with "animal by-products" in it, because this might be blood. They even try to tell you what cat food you can buy. I swear I am not making this up.

When people have been opressed for so long and don't think for themselves anymore, just about anything can be seen as good in the eyes of the opressed.
Many women in Islam have been forced to cover their heads for so long, they actually see this, opression, as their freedom. It becomes a part of you. If they were ordered to take it off their heads, they would see it as violation of their rights. Authority in any cults, can never be questioned. That is why there was no outcry when several Muslim women died in a fire. They couldn't leave, because they were not wearing proper Islamic attire.
WE as humans get complacent to the strangest of things. In some cases, even folks who have been in prisons for so many years and get released, later do something to go back to the prison enviornment. It is something they are familiar with and even feel a degree of security and comfort.
I'm suprized the Crotchtower, hasn't started selling magic beans and getting people to tie magnets to their heads.
But Russell did sell magic beans for a while. It's one of those things that sounds almost too perfectly ironic to be true, but it is.

How many times can I do it? I mean, like if I could go as fast as I wanted anywhere, that would be a lot more practical than some one-off act of revenge, if maybe not quite as satisfying.

What is your strangest "supernatural" JW story?
by donny ini had just became a witness and a guy i worked with, who was also a jw, told me a story that actually made me laugh and i think it upset him a bit.
the storys were almost always in the third person.
it went as follows.. this brothers wife and him were sitting at the kingdom hall on the end seats of the row next to the back of the room.

My favorite smurf story is the one where the smurf jumped off of the smurf print wallpaper and ran down the hallway or something.
Anyway, I'm pretty sure this story was actually told at an assembly, where the pioneer lady called on the serial killer and he didn't mess with her because of the two big guys dressed in white who were with her, even though she was alone. I think it made it into one of the yearbooks back in the day as well.
Growing up going to the circuit assemblies, every year in the back there were these two old ladies sitting with a man on a hospital type cot, They were always there without fail, every time. The man was always asleep. I just assumed that he had some kind of illness and they had no one to take care of him while they were away at the assembly so they took him with them. I found out later that the guy had actually been brain dead for years, but they kept dragging his body to the assemblies because they thought he would be miraculously healed at one of them. This was at the London, Ohio assembly hall, BTW.

Traditionally, a thump to the skull is the cure for sleepiness during meetings.
