why was there no official arrangement before 1952 to disfellowship people?
was there a different procedure with a different name?
was no one committing disfellowshipping offenses?
This doesn't exactly answer the question, but it gives insightful information concerning the subject. There might be enough infor here for some of the other posters to fill in the gaps. So the story goes...
Years ago, near the mid-thirties, a Jehovah's Witness (I think they were Witnesses by then) named Olin Moyle became a member, donated nearly everything he owned, and donated his legal expertise to the Witnesses. Just before 1940, he resigned as a Winess, apparently deciding this wasn't for him. Rutherford then aparently denounced Moyle privately and publicly. Then Moyle sued the Witnesses and won, first in the original court and then later on appeal. (tho the amount was reduced) Never heard if he got his money, I mean actually GOT it.
Anyway, shortly after that is when disfellowshipping becan to be a prescribed policy. I heard, and am inclined to believe, that these two events are related.
Tho the GB claims the DF'ing policy was about 'cleaness' the more I learn about the 'Society's' (did I say that...ack!) it is my personal belief that they are being less than truthful.
I don't think dear Olin Moyle even made it into the Proclaimers book, and hardly a Witness even knows the name.
And this surprises...whom?

i'm looking for anyone who is married to a non-witness, or someone who themselves is not a witness but is married to one.
i'm in desperate need of advice and don't know where else to turn.
i myself am not a witness but my girlfriend is and our religous differences are forcing us apart.
ianao
..I'm sorry!!!!

Perhaps you can decide not to have children for a while after marriage. Say a couple of years. It might be fun to spend that time together just the two of you anyway.
Really tho, my heart goes out to you.

there are some really weird and interesting names on this site.
just out of interest, lets swap details of how we selected our chosen "stage name", it could be fun!.
i chose "englishman" when i first started to lurk at h20.
I am 'gsark' which is short for Glenda's Ark. I am Glenda and I have a lot of different kinds of animals.
Reading all these persoanl stories is very heartwarming. Thanks everyone for sharing.

Religion is a personal choice everyone must make for themselves, if she's choosing her religion over you (that's what it sounds like)there isn't much you can do, and maybe there isn't much you should do.
You could try waiting her out, but even if you succeed, if you 'win' you could be in for a long frustrating haul in between. Why is this person a Witness in the first place?
Sorry if I don't sound very positive, but couples have been struggling with such thorny issues for thousands of years. Join the club.
why did some of us get taken in by the post from carlo?
because as absurd as the correspondence was, there was a ring of truth to it.
while it would be unlikely that anyone would be counseled to forget about their new grand baby by a co or elders, i can see some self-righteous witnesses taking the attitude that shunning their knocked up daughter and the resultant baby would be the most loving thing to do.. how sad this is.
Perhaps that was his point. If it was, believe me he made it.

tigerlily:
I did what the Society said and put God's kingdom first. I woke up one day, I was in my late thirties, tired and worn out from manual, low paid labor, my 4 children grew up with hand-me-downs and day-old bread (not that there's anything wrong with that, but a choice would have been nice)and they were on the road to doing the same.
At age 40 I graduated from nursing school, I have my license and am making better money, enough to buy a computer, dsl service and come play on this board. I have helped two of my children through school, and the other 2 start hopefully this winter/coming spring.
You would not want to go through life as I did and my children almost did, I can almost bet. I hope you stay in school, and maybe make some friends there as well. God gave you a brain, feel free to use it.

apologies for plagurism.
i don't know where i originally got this from so can't give due credit.... how much did jesus know about the bible?
not having a handy edition around, he had to rely on his memory.
ahhh, thank you Aguest, about the 'lawful showbread' that would've kept me up half the night.
Simon, you do keep us hopping.
Next question!

I thought the text of" what David did when he fell in need and got hungry, he and the men with him?" could be understood as ..."what David did (alone) when he and the men with him fell in need and got hungry. David would not allow any of his men to assume the risk, only he himself, so he went in alone. (He could have sent someone else)
I Sam 2:20 Ahimelech was the son of Abiathar
II Sam 8:17 Ahimelech was the son of Abiathar
One wonders if this another case, where the righteous son (Ahimelech) does honor to God where the father (Abiathar) did not (very much like Jonathon and Saul. A lot of that going around in those days.) In which case it is good Ahimalech escaped, perhaps David told Ahimelech the truth and warned him about Saul.
One can assume David loaded himself up with bread and took it back to his men.
I couldn't find anything about the showbread being unlawful either, but the account doesn't say it was unlawful by means of the Mosaic Law. Perhaps some additional Jewish law, added on, we all know how that is huh kiddies. (WTB&T anybody)
