I've been on these boards for about a month or so reading everyones story. It is very different to hear that news cast than to have a sterilized viewpoint by just reading it here. Hmmm, with these happenings the WTS may be inspiring another active apostate. I usually don't care about what the WTS does since I haven't even wasted action, much less thought, on them in almost 3 years now. However, it looks like things may be changing. Strange...

A plague of locusts
by larc innow, when i grew up in the religion, i was taught that we were like a plague of locusts fullfiling prophescy.

Soledad, isn't it strange some of things that you remember? I would call your experience an epiphany. My single defining moment was sitting in the KH and we were talking about people in the Hindu faith. The speaker was talking about how Hindus had respect for all holy writings and were generally peaceful. With this information we could use the WT and our bible to convert them. That was when my epiphany hit me. I just couldn't believe I was going along with a religion whose only goal was to convert people who were peaceful and had respect for our religion even though we had no respect for theirs.
Ahhh, those single defining moments. -

Slim Jims: Jehovahs Jerky, or Satans Meatstick?
by The_Bad_Seed inthere has been much ado over claims that slim jims may have therapeutic value in treating blind rage and aging spots, as seen in such celebrity cases as macho man randy savage, and in easing the mania that comes from watching wwf raw more than once a week.
a u.s. institute of medicine report acknowledges that there is some truth to these claims.
but does this mean that the near-future doctors will be prescribing slim jims, as if they were a panacea?.

Everyone knows that Slim Jims are Satans meatstick. I've caught my wife several times deep throating a Slim Jim much to my amazem...dismay. When will we get Memnoch's member off of our shelves for good? What about the children?

The Angry Mob - Here?
by Amazing ini noticed that non_trias_theos posted a comparative comment about ex-jws and divorcees ... and this raised some additional thoughts given the recent proclaimation that many, perhaps 90%, of the jwd posters are an angry mob, blaming everything on the watchtower religion.
non_trias_theos said in part: "peeps on this board sometimes remind me of bitter divorcees.
once they were supposedly happy jws who had that first love and joyfully engaged in meeting attendance and the preaching work.

Couldn't decide how to respond to this as the "thing" seems to be posting posts that depict us as an "angry mob". I see it as the difference as being a violent person and being someone who is driven to violence. I often wonder if these people posting the comments have actually been witnesses/exwitnesses. If so, it must be nice to take a fake high road. I blame the WTS for me not being prepared "socially" for the real world and all the ill's that befell me because of it. What annoys me is this assumption that all of us had a choice. I was raised a JW from age 5 until my DF'ing at 20. How much choice did I have at age 5 to be a JW? I did not choose to be a JW it was forced onto me and driven into every aspect of my life.
This reasoning is like forcing someone to take Heroin for 15 years then blaming them for not being able to kick the habit because kicking the habit is their choice.
Now, I choose to help as many as I can to not become caught up in the propoganda of the WTS. There are many ways to teach morals and "clean" living so the WTS is not even deserving of praise for that as the consequesnces of their mind control are far more devestating than any good they may do. -

Have your prayers changed?
by eyeslice inthis is a sort of follow up to "jesus- ignored, forgotten & unemployed at wts" posted by metatron.. it strikes me, that since i have re-appraised many of my religious views that my prayers have changed significantly.
and whilst i am still an active jw, i have wondered whether my family has noticed, though they have not said anything so far.. jws prayers are not only very stereotyped (despite what jesus admonition about not using the same words, or by extension the same thoughts, over and over again) but also extremely introverted towards the watchtower society.. for example, a typical congregation prayer will include the following thoughts;.
1. bless our congregation.

Since I pray to both a Goddess and a God much in the same vein as Sirona. As humans it is easier to relate to something outside of ourselves by ascribing traits that we're familiar with. This is why Christians refer to God as the "father" and as a he. I simply see fit to pray to both aspects which are in all of us even though I do believe that the Divine does not carry a gender and would probably be insulted by our shortsightedness to give it one. Of course being insulted is also a human emotion. Everyone here is correct though, in that a JW prayer is very formulated and continually regurgitated.

Favourite Governing Body memeber?
by the follower ini have noticed that there is a tendency in this group to speak injuriously of glorious ones.
in an attempt to help us be more "balanced" in this regard i invite all to share which governing body members they like.
who is your favourite governing body member?

I was always fond of Brother Doas Isay. I found it a great comfort to not have to think for myself. Just when I thought the Watchtower article was confusing he would provide me with the resource material I needed to prove his point.

What are you doing now you are free?
by sleepy inwhat are you using your time to do , that you couldn't do before when enslaved to the decrepit old men of the org?.
i'm now determined to throw down my squeegee , and become an artist.. yes i am ashamed to admit i am a window cleaner.. i have always love drawing and art, but was adviced in school that if iwanted to be an artist i would have to be determined and be totally focused in order to succeed.. but knowing i had to pioneer and go to the meetings etc i knew i wouldn't have time .so i choose to let go of my dream and waste my talents in order to serve god by selling magazines.. in fact the "truth" took up so much time that i almost gave up drawing , i cant draw well unless relaxed and i have plenty of time, in fact my favorite time is early morning when i wake up.. now i have no meetings , studying etc i have lots of time to draw and i just cant stop.. i don't know much about getting into the art world , but looking round different galleries i've seen and comparing my work i belive i can succeed.. i'll give it my best shot anyway.

First thing I did after I left was join a Tae Kwon Do class.
Martial Arts was a tug of war topic for me and the elders.
Smoked some pot, although not now. Drank allot, although not anymore. Had LOTS of sex. My wife and I being swingers helps that out.
I now study various religions of MY choosing. I have friends now who like me for me not under some arbitrary condition. I listen to whatever music I want to listen. I go to college much to my enjoyment. If I could afford it I'd be a lifetime student. The biggest thing that I don't do anymore is live in fear. I pray to "Pagan" gods/goddesses. I don't dance naked that often so I guess you guys got me on that one ;) -

Jesus- Ignored, Forgotten& Unemployed at WTS
by metatron inwouldn't it be fair to say that early christians were.
obsessed with the name and person of jesus?
wish to deny that?.

I think for the most part the WTS only mentions Jesus to find it easier to pass off their cult as a legitemate christian religion. By using Jesus name they can find a more common ground as most everyone in this country knows who, according to christians, Jesus was. I still remember being a JW and someone telling me that we didn't believe in Jesus. I laughed at him and said of course we do. Only now do I realize that he was nothing more than a conversation starter after that it is all WTS and Jehovah (in that order).
