Watch out Stinky!!! Non might "bust a cap in yo ass". Does anyone still believe this guy is actually a JW? By the way, I fully expect a retort to the effect of 'You spelled sense as since. Who has the lower intellect now?' He may be the Village Idiot but man at least he's not boring.

WTS and Aliens
by gsx1138 inone of the things that always annoyed me about the wts is there rigid belief that there is no other intelligent life in the universe.
i always believed that there was at the very least a mathematical chance and just common sense.
as a species humans are not all that.

The discovery of other life will not ruin religion. You forget they have the best spin doctors the world has ever seen. As for my religion, it has the posibility of other life because we are all part of a greater whole. It is generally viewed, by the Wiccans that I know, that anyone who believes that God only created us to be the intelligent beings in the universe is arrogant.
I do see your point though. Those religions that rely on a central diety figure are pretty much screwed. I think Hindu's, Buddhist's, and Pagan's to name a few will be vindicated by such a discovery since most don't believe we are the center of the universe. -

I'm sure the Village idiot posts here for intellectual masturbation since the act is physically forbidden. Apparently he doesn't use logic for lubrication.

I've been gone for awhile so can anyone tell me if they changed their stance on that viewpoint (ya know "new light").
Also, I do believe that extraterretrial life would include single cell organisms. Sure it's not as exciting as E.T. but I think it counts. -

I sent you a mail as well but I'll post what I wrote here as well since that seems to be the thing to do now.
Well I'm a bit hesitant here. From my limited exposure to you you seem pretty cool. So I'll give you a short list.
Age 6-around 13 I had a recurring dream about a tree. Not a regular tree but one that had another tree growing in the middle of it. Kind of like one inside the other. Never paid much attention to it until I was 28. After some digging on the subject of Paganism, which I never would have thought of as a JW, I found a story of a tree that had another tree growing inside of it. The resulting picture was pretty much exactly as I had dreamed it.
Sept. 11 I had a dream I was flying (like superman, not in a plane) then I just dropped out of the sky and kept falling until I woke up. A minute later my wife came in crying talking about some attack. Personally, I don't think this has to do with anything. More of a coincidence than anything but it is fun to tell.
Age 14 I had a dream I got into a fight with a guy at school who I didn't know. Sure enough I went to school and this guy came up behind me and slammed my head into my locker while I had my back turned to him. Needless to say the Karate came in handy that day as the resulting fight got me suspended and him good and bloodied. Funny thing was, I didn't even know him and he thought I was someone else.
Age 20 I had a dream that I got my girlfriend pregnant and she had a boy. Two weeks later she told me she was pregnant. However, as time went on the Dr. discovered she was having a girl. Me being the stubborn bastard that I am kept insisting she was having a boy. Man did I look stupid. That was until she gave birth and it really was a boy. I was the only person in the family that bought boy cloths even after she had had the sex confirmed to be a girl 4 times before the birth.
Age 27 I had a dream that my wife was pregnant and it was going to be a boy. However, the dream seemed darker for some reason. 3 weeks later we found out she was pregnant. Everything was good until we discovered that the baby had no kidneys and would die at birth. My wife aborted the child. DNA results confirmed that it would have been a boy.
Age 30 I have another dream that my wife is pregnant and she is going to have a girl. Seeing a pattern here? 3 weeks later she is pregnant and we now have a girl. We named her Karma as it seemed fitting.
There are others but those stand out the most. As I've posted before on the boards, I would much prefer to take the scientific route until it is no longer possible. I do believe that most people try to associate things together in order to confirm their belief in the supernatural.
Dear Lord, please save me from your followers.

Can only fellow apostates understand us?
by sleepy incan only fellow apostates understand us?.
as a witness i often felt that i could only really get on , on a deep level with fellow witnesses.. they shared your outlook on life , and had similiar experiences and problems.kids who grew up as witnesses had been through the same things in school as me.. so even though i could get on with other people , in a way i felt connected to other witnesses.only they could understand me.. but know i feel an instant connection with apostates.. we now share the same things.in a even deeper way than when a witness , as what we have done has effected us even more.. is it possible to connect in the same way with people who havent been through the same things as us?.
do you feel closer to others like you , and find it easier to make friends with such people?.

Hey good thread. I'll share my little story on this subject. About 3 years ago I was working for a major software retailer. My boss and I became really good friends. He is the one that turned me on to Wicca. Anyway, I was telling him that I was raised a JW. He said he knew a few but didn't really know what they believed. So I explained the basics, 144k, armageddon, DF'ing, field service, etc..
Now, I was still convinced that the WTS wasn't a cult and that is even after 9 years of being DF'd. Well after I explained everything I just kind of sat there in silence. I had relayed all that information without a hint of emotion. I may as well been reading the ingredients to a box of Fruit Loops.
First thing he said was, "Sounds like a fucking cult to me."
Right after that I said, "Wow, I've never just said it like that. You know all matter of a fact. It does sound like a cult."
Anyway, to this day we still talk about religion but I know that he can never fully understand where I'm coming from. However, he is a pretty empathetic guy. I can just tell that most of you are able to relate allot better to being an exJW than he ever will. -

I need help/info on other religions vs the WTS
by Leander inover the past week since i've announced that i was stepping down i have had a few conversations with my family, and against my better judgement i mentioned that i was having doubts.
invariably almost every discussion about the jw religion eventually boils down to the argument that only witnesses are doing this or that.
unfortunately this is a weak part of my debate, i have only been associated with the jw religion so i have very little information on what other religions beleive and practice.

What you are stuck in right now is the apples and oranges debate. They believe that everything they do is right. You cannot argue your way out of this no matter how hard you try. There are lots of religions that are different from one another. My question to you is, would you want to be apart of another religion like the WTS? Of course my advice is a bit hazy on this subject anyway because I don't believe the Bible is the word of God.
By the way, I'm going through this exact same thing with my mother now. It is hard to argue with someone when you're not even on the same page. I could easilly show her all of the inconsistencies in the Bible and that there were books left out on purpose. This argument, however, will get me no where. Good luck. I would suggest a debate class/ or a critical thinking speech class. I'm learning now all of the different fallacies of argument. It has helped me a great deal in not getting caught in circular reasoning. -

Observations on a bunch of Ex Dubs
by refiners fire inperhaps i could have put this in the "apostofest" thread, but i didnt want it to get buried and unread.. a load of melbourne ex witnesses rolled around to my house yesterday for an "apostofest" bbq.. i must admit i was a bit..apprehensive.
fact was, i didnt know any of them.. total strangers really.. would things be strained?
would people have nothing to say to each other?would it, in fact be an embarrassment?.

Just an observation of mine but I think most ex JW's understand that everyone there came from the same shitty background. The last thing we would want to do is prove any point the WTS is trying to make. The WTS believes us to basically be barbarians with now sense of morals. I am how I am but also know that I would not want my actions to lend any ammo to the WTS gun. I don't think I act a certain way because of some residual JW teachings. If that were the case I'd act nice to your face and stab you in the back while trying to split up your family. Most exJW's that I've met have a live and let live attitude after being force fed intolerance.
