There is almost nothing unique about the Bible. Just about every story contained within its pages has been told before by earlier civilizations. By the way, nice posting JanH. I don't agree with it but your ideas are presented well. And what the hell is wrong with this font? Ahhh, that's better.

Does the soul or spirit exist?
by JanH inscience deals with what can be observed, directly or indirectly.
so in one sense, you could say that science is simply not providing any answers to the question about the existence of a soul or spirit component of a human being.. .
that, of course, keeps science polite to religious ideas.. .

The Bible Does Not Condemn Witchcraft
by Sirona inthe jws are against anything remotely pagan and they're certainly against witchcraft.
they say the bible condemns it.
scriptures such as exodus 22:v18 "you must not preserve a sorceress alive" (nwt) or as the king james version says "thou shalt not suffer a witch to live".

I'm a witch, I'm a witch. I'm the biggest witch in the whole damn world. <stops singing>
I have to ask this question Sirona. Are you starting this topic for purely debate purposes or do you care what christians think? I'm just wondering not trying to be an ass or anything. I know that since I've dropped the baggage associated with the Bible my life has been awesome. I've had more blessings and prayers answered by the Goddess than I ever did trying to be a good christian. This is not to say that christianity is bogus, it just never did anything for me despite going to church even after I left the WTS. I would love to hear what your belief system includes as I know that there are even differing versions of Wicca. If you don't feel comfortable posting it here please feel free to email me.

I just saw it on ESPN news. I'm grinnin like a drunk fool. Lewis has been my fighter of choice for 10 years despite all the critics. I such a happy camper right now. Tyson is finally squashed like a bug, lets all hope that this is the last we have to deal with him (at least on a proffesional level).

Lewis all the way. He'll either win by knockout or DQ. Everyone has these fond memories of the early 90's and Tyson. Those day are over and Tyson has already been figured out. Lewis has the skill to beat Tyson down. I also think too many people disrespect Lewis because he's made poor descisions in the past. His suspect chin is a result of himself on a few occasions not taking the other fighter seriously. I don't think he'll have that problem this time around.

non-jw family might hire jw nanny--r we crazy?
by fred inwe are a non-jw family with 2 kids under 5 thinking about hiring a jw live in nanny.
she is in her 30's, active jw.
we all have talked about mutual respect for each others religions, and all agreed to a hands off policy.

You are playing with fire. However, I don't believe in discrimination for religous reasons. You need to set up strict guidlines for her being there. Make sure she knows it's a job and just a job. All that being said, the WTS is a very dangerous religion. This is especially true when it comes to children and most JW's don't even notice this. The psychological damage done can be huge and most followers think any behavior out of line with policy is their fault for being spiritually weak.
I would say hire her but keep a very short leash on her. Hopefully you have a good relationship with your kids and they'll tell if she trying to preach to them. On a personal note, I don't allow any WTS person or talk into my house except my mother. -

I know how ya feel. My mother has her head firmly up the WTS ass. I'm in dread of having any religous conversation with her as it's like talking to a brick wall. The advice given to you is very good. Just give them unconditional love. It is hard because they are your parents but they are still just people. My mother came over on wednesday and she looks sooo old now. I don't think she can change now even if she wanted to so it just makes me more sad. You can email me anytime if ya want. -

Excellent posts. I do feel a bit out of my depth as I can convey my beliefs better in speech than in written word. One thing I do find interesting that there is a continuence of the word mythology by the believers of of the three "main" religions. As posted before, Odin is no less real or tangible than Jehovah and if you want to open a can of worms, Jesus. I can't find the link but I seem to remember reading something on infedels.org about there not being much evidence that Jesus even existed. If you have more info on this idea JanH I would appreciate it since I'm in a heated debate with a christian literalist in class.

Glad to have you Sprocket. You'll find differing opinions in here but generally it is more tolerant here than anywhere else. I think you'll like it here as most of us share the same past.

I measured mine - 9 inches !
by Simon inwhat were you expecting when you clicked that topic ?!?!.
actually, i read an interesting bit of trivia somewhere that said mens nipples are always 9 inches apart.
i measured mine and i'm spot on.. of course i'd be disappointed if all my vital stats were just 9 inches

Had my wife measure and you're right 9"
Oh wait, you meant the nipple thing? Yeah, that was what she measured, ummmm sure.
