How much do I love water? Two months ago I turned down a 60k+ a year job in Vegas because it is in the middle of the desert and too far away from the Ocean. Fortunately, they are trying hard to arrange that I still live in Washington but email my work to them. I used to hate the water as a kid but now if I don't get my Puget Sound/Pacific Ocean fix I get lathargic and moody. I'm sure I'm a psychologists dream right now but to me the ebb and flow of the Ocean is spiritual. Having a martial arts background just adds to that spirituality.

Water, Lakes, Rivers and Oceans - your views ....
by invisible ini love water, the healing soothing properties of sitting in a serene spot in the woods by the riverbank, does me the ruddy world of good.. who else here loves water and has a particular spot where they just enjoy unwinding and chilling out?
can you describe this special to you, place?.
who here has spent also many hours in reflexive meditation just watching the way that water moves and swirls along, perhaps eddies over the estuary mudflats, those tiny tubular rollers, or seen the way that ripples interact with one another?.

Looks awesome and cold at times. For a second there I thought it was all wide open space. I'm used to living in a state with just about all mountains so really large flat open spaces freak me out.

Fred Franz, still alive and running the show.
by sleepy infred franz, still alive and running the show.
how so?no he's not been ressurected and taken to heaven to direct gods affairs on earth.but it is his bible that forms the basis for what witnesses believe and teach.
many people point to franz as the sole author of the new world translation (with help from others) he decided how "gods inspired word" should read to people today.what is truth and what is false in the witness mind is all down to fred franz.

I remember hearing about how the NWT was praised by Bible scholars everywhere because it was the most accurate translation. I don't think this is true but how would I be able to disprove it and where are these scholars that make such claims?

Life Created from Scratch
by bboyneko inresearchers in new york have created infectious polioviruses from ordinary, inert chemicals they obtained from a scientific mail-order house, marking the first time a functional virus has been made from scratch and raising a host of new scientific and ethical concerns.. "this shows it's now possible to go from data printed on a piece of paper or stored in a computer and, without the organism itself.
reconstruct a life form," said john la montagne, deputy director of the national institute of allergy and infectious diseases at the national institutes of health.. .

Damn you Francois. You'll not interfere with my plans. Very soon I'll be breeding sharks with laser beams on their heads and the world will be sorry. Your life will be spared though Francois because you took the Psychologists side.

Hello I don't know you but I know you'll have your hands full selling reservations, game informer subs, and making schedules to fit in with the "grid". Oh don't forget to attach PRP's and make sure your store is up to POP requirements. Also, don't forget that "gut checks save lives". Other than that it is a fun job.

Quantum - "not one negative anti-mormon cl...
by alex_recovering_mormon innot one negative anti-mormon claim has stood up to scrutiny?
baloney - here is a list for your leadership to honestly respond to.
the lds church has no foundation of truth at all since the first vision is uncredible, the book of mormon & book of abraham are obviously fiction, the church plagiarized their temple ordinances, they are clueless on the nature of god, etc.

There will always be things in the church of Jesus Christ which will be misunderstood
If this is the case then you should not be trying to convice people that the Mormon church is the true religion. If there is no way for you or any other mormon to reasonably explain your dogma and origins and explain away criticisms then you cannot make any claims of truth. Truth is not just supported by facts it is supported by facts from all angles. You can't say, "Mine is the true religion except for blah, blah, blah." When you are trying to convince someone that your religion is the Truth you are trying to convince them that what they think is wrong thus the burden of proof falls on you. If there are holes in your theology that are covered over with "It's Gods mystery, you gotta have faith, you just have to believe." then you have not presented enough data to claim "Truth".
Don't try and blast alex because you sound just like a JW who wants to make excuses for not wanting to believe someone because they are an "Apostate". You produced your evidence for the mormons on this an ex-JWs site so I think you have no basis for talking about the rules of this forum.

PLEASE REFER TO THE FOLLOWINGhttp://farms.byu.edu/free/transcripts/index.html
Begin with Daniel Peterson's Evidences for The Book of Mormon
The entire site is filled with scholars who are recognised in their fields, from many different university backgrounds, and which are apologists for the CHURCH OF JESUS CHRIST OF LATTERDAY SAINTS.
Keep in mind, for those of you who are x JW's....The WTS has never had a scholarly arm to their church. Our church believes in education.
Utah has produced more scientists than any other state per capita, since the early 1920's
I think he has a right to respond.

this board :)
by SpiderMonkey inalong the lines of joy's post on friends, i wanted to add my own 2 cents in praise of this board!
to put it all in a nutshell, i learned how to *drink* when i was at bethel, around late 89 to early 93. was disfellowshipped sometime just before thanksgiving 94, and have continued to be a heavy drinker ever since.
about a month & a half ago i discovered this board, and last sunday i quit drinking .

Awesome news Spider. I also drank and smoked myself into a fantasy world for years before I was able to pull myself out of that funk. Good job though on your part. I'm glad we had a little something to do with your turn around.

Missing the Target for 125 Years!
by JanH inmissing the target for 125 years .
the organization that more than 5 million jehovah's witnesses believe to be "god's channel" of communication to mankind, is strangely also the organization with a monumental record of failed predictions.
after examining dozens of watch tower society (wts) predictions we failed to find a single one that was right.
